The academy must have a significant cost to run it. Is it actually money well spent with the players that come through from it?
Discuss.

I wonder how soon George Nurse will be ready for first team action? If he plays a few minutes or not tonight should give you a clue to how long he is likely to be.

These games matter for a club in our financial situation. Only small amount for getting through at this group stage but it all helps and the possibility of a large payout at the end which would obviously be very welcome. They do and we had a nice little cup run when Hurst was here before. But at times like we are at right now with a small squad and a few injuries it's very much too many games. Can see why SC threw in the kids a couple of years back, we dont even have that choice now we have sent them out on loan (very strange timing to do that in my view).

Parking available at Meadow tonight. £5 cash on the gate. 7.30pm KO instead of the normal 7.45pm. Is parking free? The post you have quoted says "£5 cash on the gate" 🤔

Don't want to scare you but I travelled to the USA last year and when I arrived and went through security I was ushered into what was basically a court room with a proper judge , they were hearing cases in order and throwing the book at those who had basically lied on their green card visa form I was wondering what I had done , when it was my turn the judge asked if I had any alias's and I said no , she asked for extra id , I gave her my driving licence and she said that's fine You can go through I can only think they picked up on my Facebook account where I use an alias ( only did to stop work prying ) 😝 Funny now but stressful at the time Sure that will help settle the nerves of the OP 🙄

Would do a Cotterill and stick some kids in tonight , anyone involved in the first X1 vs Huddersfield shouldnt be involved, just too risky for a pointless game. Our best kids are out on loan. Does seem a few weeks too early for them to go out with games like this during this time and a small squad.

That's bizarre about the physical boarding pass charge. I don't think I've had a paper version for over 10 years. It still amazes me to see how many people have them. I tend to do both i.e. download to my phone and print a hard copy in case the phone breaks down for whatever reason!! May be a bit over the top but does provide that bit of reassurance in case things go wrong! This is me too. On the way out definately, on the way back too if it's possible.

Unfortunately airlines are moving more and more towards everything digitally. And sadly the more budget airlines seem to be using it as a way of fleecing(robbing ??) more money out of the customer.
It's not easy for us older folk to learn the new skills but sometimes it is needed to save paying charges that shouldnt be allowed.

Anyone got any thoughts on who might be part of the squad for this one then.
Guess both the Feeneys wont be available? Guess Rossiter wont be risked? Any more knocks from Saturday? Will Nurse be given some game time? Do you think we will have any of the youngsters involved? Do you think we will have a full bench?

Made his debut on Friday night for Shelbourne. Scored for them and scored penalty in the shootout too. Didn't manage that for town in 2 years! Being good in LOI doesnt make him a good player - dont we know it!

Well,he wasn't here the other night when they got battered by Sheffield....strange🤔🤔🤔 I don't call losing 4-2 to a club who were in the Premiership last season BATTERED? Tomorrow, we have a very difficult game at Bolton. I would settle for a point right now. But you never know......it could be 3 It could be 1 point, it could be 3, or it could be 0. Think you will find most games of football are like that. 👍👍

I'm sure the Feeney 'twins' were going to be our first choise central defenders.
Of course the loan curse of injuries struck again before one could play a game. Let's just hope t'other Feeney isnt out for long.

Does this suggest this game won't be postponed due to international break? The fact that weve got no one likely to be called up (possible Pierre, not sure if he is still in contention), and Wrexham have only got 1 likely to be called up is the biggest suggestion there will ever be.

Indeed. Nit having a collection point for away tickets definitely stinks of ideas above their station. Think the last time we played a 'big' club that we couldnt collect tickets from they also played in red. We ended up collecting tickets from a nearby club who play in blue. I'm guessing collecting from a club who play in blue, Chester is a bit too far away this time. What is it about 'big' clubs who play in red having ideas above their station. Especially lower league ones.

No ticket collection at Wrexham. That’s caused issues on here before, maybe we can pick up at Chester… Think they are a big Club 'They' Think they are a big club. There sorted that one out for you.

A Town win in a 5 goal thriller, with the South stand bouncing as we score the winner in the 93rd minute! 4-1. Yes, I'll take that 😇

You will get plenty of adverts on FB too, usually based on what sort of things you search for online.
I'm on it quite a bit but tailor it to what i want from it. If you just want to see what your 'friends' (close contacts) do then add loads of 'friends', if you arent that bothered then just add a few (maybe only one or none at all).
I'm on it in lots of groups covering every interest under the sun. Then you only see posts relevant to that group. There is a Shrewsbury Town FB group which has quite a decent number of posts every day, but it does get even more moaning about how crap we are at everything than you will ever find on b&A. There is also a very good Memories of Shrewsbury Town group covering everything from the past. Several ex players are members and post occasionally.
It's really all about what YOU want it to be, but you only find out with trial and error. You can join under an assumed name if you want to, some do but most just use there real name. But it's an option to be M Mousr if you want to be incognito.

In tonight's games St Patricks Athletic won 1-0 (2-0 agg) in Kazakhstan against Sabah to progress.
Kilmarnock win 1-0 ( 3-2 agg) in Norway against Tromso and also progress.
St Mirren come unstuck also in Norway against Brann 3-1 (4-2 agg).
Larne are making hard work of their 1-0 1st leg advantage, currently losing 1-0 (1-1 agg) deep into Extra time.
And in the Europa League Shamrock Rovers are 3-1 up (3-2 agg) also well into Extra time.
Elsewhere Ajax beat Panathinakos 13-12 on penalties......
EDIT - Shamrock held onto win 3-1 (3-2 agg) Larne finished 0-1 (1-1 agg). Then won 4-1 on pens to also go through.
Another high scoring penalty shoot out saw Wisla Krakow beat Spartak 12-11. At the other extreme Kobenhavn could only beat Ostrava 2-1 on pens. Bet the crowd had no fingernails left after that one as well.

Nurse needs to be played in very gradually over several weeks once fit to be considered. And I'm sure he will have his own doubts after the last couple of years. Dont expect him to just pick up from where he left off, that's very unlikely to happen. The more I hear Hursts responses to questions about Nurse the more I begin to think that Hurst thinks he’s ready but it’s Nurse that’s holding back . Perhaps he retains a worry about a possible career ending injury if he comes back , in his mind , too soon ?! 🤔 And if that's the case then he is likely to get another injury by holding back. But it's not surprising he feels like it after the last 2 seasons.

Sweden have today announced that they have identified a variant of mpox in their country , the first case to be identified outside of Africa . Will countries in Europe begin to initiate checks on travellers from the African continent ? It will be interesting to see how this situation develops for a host of reasons 😳 I'm sure European countries wont do anything of the sort, let's be honest many dont take much notice of who comes into their country, and the UK cant stop the boats coming in with every Tom Dick and Harry from all over the world. It would be a good idea, but it wont ever happen.

There was actually two (but I didnt put that). Dougie Bell was the one I wasnt expecting folks to get, I was surprised when I looked through the teams myself. I was looking for another one, though he only played in the 1st leg.

Ok, I've trawled through. Not bothered checking any after the 1980s as yet. As well as Gary Shaw for Villa there was Oggy who in 1978 was sub in the 1st leg for Liverpool as they lost 3-1 in Anderlecht, but played in the 2nd leg at home as they won 2-1 (lost 4-3 on agg), Ray Clemence was on the bench for that game. In 1980 there was Bryn Gunn who played in the 2nd leg for Forest in Valencia (lost 1-0, agg 2-2 Forest lost on away goals). Quiz question - Can anyone name the former Town player who played in the 1983 Super Cup Final?

good question maybe oggy got a game in the late 70s ? used to be 2 legs of course he wasnt an ex player at that point maybe a couple of villa players too before they joined us Gary Shaw? He won the European Cup with Villa. Good shout! Scored Villas goal after 80 mins that equalised Barcelonas 1-0 lead from the 1st leg. Took the game into ET and Villa scored 2 more to win it. Wasnt an ex player back then of course.

We'll probably draw Barrow away! Sure we would take a few, not many of our fans have seen us play there.
