Me and Wifey are off on Holiday. We have never got our boarding passes by email, phone laptop etc. We are both stressing a bit and wonder if a few pointer would help. I don't understand it at all. Question: if I do the check in stuff on my laptop not on my phone am I able to print my boarding pass at the airport or do I have to do everything on my phone.and of course I won't have my laptop on the return journey, just my phone. It's a bit out there for me.. If anyone would like to help I am happy to be pm,d on this site. Thanks I'm a bit wobbly

Unfortunately airlines are moving more and more towards everything digitally. And sadly the more budget airlines seem to be using it as a way of fleecing(robbing ??) more money out of the customer.
It's not easy for us older folk to learn the new skills but sometimes it is needed to save paying charges that shouldnt be allowed.

So I expect you havent done that. I doubt you can print at the airport, so either print at home if you can or have them on your phone - this can usually be done just as a pdf on your email or via the airlines app

The only reason I ask is that we have different experiences depending on who the carrier is.

Thanks I'm a bit wobbly My first pointer would be do not stress at all :-) Airports are incredibly efficient and simple way of travelling when you consider the complexity of it all. As mentioned above when you check in you will get a boarding pass on your phone. Arrive at the airport about 3 hours before flight. First thing is check departures (big tv screens with them on everywhere) Look for your destination and time. It will show where which desk to que at. The desk could very well not be open at that point, but just que anyway. When you walk up to the counter/desk give them your passport. They will then ask you to place your bags on the thing. In Stanstead last year I checked in my own bags. It was brilliant!! So fast. Next is security. OMG this is boring. Bizarrely airports are different when it comes to what you can take through. But I just take off everything, such as, belts, watches and rings etc. Once through security. Have a look which gate your flight departs from (big tv screens with them on everywhere). If you're early your flight won’t be assigned a gate yet. So just sit and chill, or shop, drink, eat, have a great time, and include it as part of your holiday. When it is assigned a gate don’t go running for it in a mad panic. These things take a loooong time. You will have plenty of time, trust me. Finally, when ready to board the plane they will ask for your boarding pass. You/they scan it and then walk onto the plane.

That's bizarre about the physical boarding pass charge. I don't think I've had a paper version for over 10 years. It still amazes me to see how many people have them.

I tend to do both i.e. download to my phone and print a hard copy in case the phone breaks down for whatever reason!! May be a bit over the top but does provide that bit of reassurance in case things go wrong!

As above I prefer to have a hard copy as well as phone for exactly the same reason. If you are staying overnight at a hotel before your flight, they usually have a facility whereby you can print your own. That is particularly applicable for your return.

Except For the avoidance of doubt, these are not “new EU rules” – they were decided while the UK was in the European Union.

As long as you have your passport you will be fine,
Most of it is done digitally now, (boarding passes etc) At Manchester you scan your passport and it gives you everything, boarding pass, tags for bags (which I am still a little concerned about being ripped off if I don't attach correctly).
Ryanair seems to be an exception - in that they make people use their app to get boarding passes etc - I understand they charger a high fee to print off boarding passes, though other airlines try to get you to go digital as well they still print off paper boarding passes - easyjet for example free of charge.
You can likely also do everything via airlines apps or websites - if I'm travelling with my partner I usually send a copy of things to her as well, but I also like to keep a printed copy of my ticket details and travel insurance just in case.

Don't want to scare you but I travelled to the USA last year and when I arrived and went through security I was ushered into what was basically a court room with a proper judge , they were hearing cases in order and throwing the book at those who had basically lied on their green card visa form
I was wondering what I had done , when it was my turn the judge asked if I had any alias's and I said no , she asked for extra id , I gave her my driving licence and she said that's fine You can go through
I can only think they picked up on my Facebook account where I use an alias ( only did to stop work prying ) 😝 Funny now but stressful at the time

Just for information you have to have a paper boarding card when departing Marrakesh airport. Lots of little shops advertise printing them for you at a cost !!

I flew to Seattle last year and couldn't believe how little was done compared with years gone by when they photographed you and took your fingerprints. Much to my annoyance I never even got a stamp in my passport which was a first for the USA.

You appear to have been extremely unlucky. I flew to Seattle last year and couldn't believe how little was done compared with years gone by when they photographed you and took your fingerprints. Much to my annoyance I never even got a stamp in my passport which was a first for the USA. Similar to me when I went to Florida earlier this year, the first time I've never had my fingerprints or a photo/eye scan taken. The ESTA questionnaire you take now asks for details of social media presence so maybe that is where the issue came from.
