Apart from on here and a bit of X/Twitter don't do much social media.
Always avoided Facebook, but getting seriously hacked off with strings of Temu ads on Twitter, so considering trying Facebook.
Now I suspect first suggestion will be don't but any suggestions on if I do try Facebook how to get the best out of it?

You will get plenty of adverts on FB too, usually based on what sort of things you search for online.
I'm on it quite a bit but tailor it to what i want from it. If you just want to see what your 'friends' (close contacts) do then add loads of 'friends', if you arent that bothered then just add a few (maybe only one or none at all).
I'm on it in lots of groups covering every interest under the sun. Then you only see posts relevant to that group. There is a Shrewsbury Town FB group which has quite a decent number of posts every day, but it does get even more moaning about how crap we are at everything than you will ever find on b&A. There is also a very good Memories of Shrewsbury Town group covering everything from the past. Several ex players are members and post occasionally.
It's really all about what YOU want it to be, but you only find out with trial and error. You can join under an assumed name if you want to, some do but most just use there real name. But it's an option to be M Mousr if you want to be incognito.

Temu is rife on the marketplace but that's almost a different part of Facebook altogether so might not be used by you

If you use Twitter on a laptop/PC install uBlock origin adblocker - can't remember the last time I saw an Ad anywhere on the internet.

Twitter ads getting stupid when you get 5 Temu ads in a row without any other posts.

It's amazing how much tech snoops on you. Just say 'holiday' or 'cinema' or anything near some tech like an alexa and you will see the ads for Jet2 and Odeon pop up across multiple platforms...
