Thankfully this season there are more clubs in our division who dont look great. Think its very similar to last season tbh. Nearly half the division back then were rubbish, our 6 wins meant we could coast through the last dozen or so games with no real relegation worries. Last season there were probably more decent teams at the top end who than this season, maybe a few more have dropped down to mediocrity (Wycombe for one). I'd certainly be happy when we pick up another 3 wins, wont be fully safe but will be a lot closer to it.

Elliot Thorpe has just tweeted his goodbyes as he returns to Luton.
Hopefully they are working on 2 or 3 more.

Doubt Flanagan will be here come the summer assuming the rumours regarding his high wages is correct.

Considering town seem incapable of doing the basics right ( yes I know about the injuries) but we show no sign of improvement and the football is dire, I am concerned that Wrexham will run rings around us and we could get thrashed. There top Scorer Lee has scored 13 goals only one less than the whole of towns team, my only slight hope is that Wrexham concede a lot of goals. But we dont create or score many. I'd be amazed if we score or even get a shot on target in this game.

unfortunately just like with Askey, the fans haven't clicked with Taylor. id go and get Hurst and Doig until end of the season with the offer that if he keeps us up he gets 2 years. how that fits in with Moore i dont know, still think he has a place overseeing football operations he just has to relinquish first team control to PH but continue working with him on signings and scouting. Is there any point in keeping Moore IF we change the coach for an experienced manager? What does he bring to the game that someone like Hurst doesn’t? Maybe he takes up the cost of a decent squad player? And many managers wouldnt want to work under a director of football.

We have won the last 3 games up there, and 4 out of the last 5 as well.
So we are due a defeat, but I keep on trying to stay positive.

This post isnt going to sit well with some just now.
But losing today isnt a total disaster however bad its feeling right now. We are still 8 points (3 wins) better off than any of the bottom 4, and their are currently 9 teams worse than us.
The really worrying thing is we are s**t away from home, against teams who basically are just slightly better on the day than us. There really is some dross in the lower half of the table this season (thankfully).
On to Burton but we cant expect to keep winning up there (won the last 3 seasons and four out of the last 5 times weve been up there).
There sure as hell needs to be some improvement going through January and we need to keep beating the rubbish teams at home.
Keep the faith (as hard as it might be right now).

When exactly does the window open? Can we play new signings from 1st Jan (ie including the Fleetwood match or not - thinking we have 1 signed already).

Have to say its not games like Pompey and Peterborough that will have bearing on our season. Its games like this.
We cant afford to be losing this type of game without the Taylor out brigade resurging. Sad but true, but keep the faith there is still a lot of game to play.

Flanagan is only stating the obvious. We have no midfield, the back five merely hoof it up and hope for the best. This is why we typically only have around 30% possession in most matches. Possession doesn't always translate into goals, but it makes them more likely. The early signing of Roland from Waterford perhaps indicates the management can see the obvious too?
Based on the other players that have come from Ireland I would think they are here to be worked on to bring them up to L1 standard hopefully for next season, rather than being an instant fix for our current short comings. The other bloke we are being linked with from Crystal Palace seems much more of an instant goalscoring forward, but we know how Shrewsbury has long been a goalscorers graveyard over many years.

I see Omar Backles scored the only goal 10 mins from time in Orients 1-0 win at home to Charlton at lunchtime. That win puts them above us on GD before this afternoon's games.

Will be interesting to see if SC is at Burton on Friday. He has supposedly been interviewed but I'm sure he will want more budget to play with than Burton could ever dream about.

Come on Town, I know our away record is pretty dire but now is the time to start picking up a few points away from home.
As we are just starting the second half of the season it's the perfect time to pick up our first double of the season.
COYB. Let's go.

Ps. Shrews won on penalties 1-0. Dont ask. How much (little??) Possesion did we have though 🙄

Any idea about his injury on Saturday? And how long is he likely to be out for? MT said 1-2 weeks I believe. Pierre stopped basically after a slight tug but could have played on and made it worse 3 or 4 games then with them coming thick and fast just now. 😒

Not a problem, they are playing away in the cup. They will get 1,600 and have to deal with it. We could’ve shifted 5,000 tickets for this cup game. I’m surprised you haven’t sold out yet.

From a quick look at the online ticket site and some rough guesswork o reckon there’s still around 1300 home tickets for sale, mostly in the corner blocks. Wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t shift them all to be honest, but should be close to a sellout. That's what I predicted all along. Close to a sell out but not quite. So everyone that wants one will be able to get one. I've had a young fan on FB trying to tell me it's a 'massive' game for us. Guess he has never seen us play Wrexham before. That just shows you how it's not a massive game except for those fans over the border. Just another stepping stone towards us playing a big team.

£28 to watch a league 2 team (well will be next season). Avin a loff ain't they?? Couldn’t pay me to go, disgusting prices for a s**t ground, s**t facilities, s**t football from both teams As John Coleman said, I’m rapidly falling out of love with the game I fell out of love with it 10-15 years ago. I'm not paying those sort of prices to watch our level of football (and I'm talking about our level, not our current standard of entertainment here).

The pizza cup (actually changed sponsor mid-season so is now the Bristol Motors cup, shows what a shambles it is) should be the 48 clubs in L1 and L2, invite the top 16 clubs from the national league and then make it a free draw straight knockout single leg competition. A maximum of 6 matches, no B teams, some integrity back. The league cup losing a two legged semi-final - no biggie, and will never affect us. The FA Cup binning replays from the 3rd round - a sad day, but if they’re going to do it they may as well just remove replays from the whole tournament. the reason the league cup was still 2 legged was nothing to do with the premier league otherwise it would have been a one off game years ago the EFL wanted this to stay 2 legs simply because the TV money is dispersed pre season, and those that pay the money want value for money, so if they have to justify value for money then so be it Even 30 odd years later I simply cannot fathom why clubs who broke away from the FOITBALL LEAGUE to create their own little circus are still playing in the FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP. They dont want to be in it, tell them they dont have to be (**** offski). Mind you we would probably find a way to allow their B teams to infiltrate it.

Thinking to the letter B brings three really good players to my era.
Gordon Banks. 679 league appearances over 20 years and 73 England caps. Started his career with Chesterfield before moving onto Leicester and then Stoke City. Played all the games in the 1966 World Cup including the winning final against West Germany. He was still the No1 England keeper in the 1970 World Cup but was ill for the quarter final defeat also against West Germany. His career was virtually ended by a car crash in October 72 when he lost the sight in one eye but still played in the USA in 1977 and 78. He then managed Telford United but had little success as a manager.
Alan Ball. 833 league appearances over 21 years starting at Blackpool before moving onto Everton, Arsenal, Southampton and finishing with Bristol Rovers. Won 72 England caps and was the youngest member of the 1966 winning team at just 19. He was also in the 1970 England squad. He then managed Blackpool, Portsmouth,Stoke, Exeter, Southampton, Man City and Portsmouth again. He was awarded the MBE in 2000, but became the second of the 66 winning team to die in 2007.
Colin Bell Played 394 times for Man City in a 13 year career with them after joining from Bury in 1967. Played 48 times for England including the 1970 World Cup. Was nicknamed Nijinski after the race horse as he was thought to have a similar elegant style of running. He was awarded the MBE in 2004.
Those are my first nominations - hit me with yours.

I've no doubt we will be saying goodbye to many of the higher earners at the earliest opportunity. It may even start as early as January if we have any players clubs would be interested in buying. Definately will happen come the end of the season.
I'm guessing that the new management structure will be told the need to get the wage bill down and replace those players with lower wage bill players (ie, youngsters from either higher level clubs reserve sides or the likes if those from Ireland).
Trouble is if all the experienced players go I cant see the youngsters coping with the riggers of a full season at our level so we may well struggle more than we are currently doing.

How about scrapping Group Stages of European Competitions and going back to home and away knockout games? That would reduce fixture congestion big time Other suggestions is top 4 clear off and play in European League and play Real Madrid and Barcelona 4 times a season Now dont be silly. We know that the Premier clubs, and the big 4 in particular run football in this country, not the FA. So much so that what they want they will undoubtedly get and the rest of the minions have to let them have it. I really do wish they would p**s off and take their little circus elsewhere and let the real football clubs get on with the proper football.
