Nothing mentioned specifically by him from what I heard on his post match input on Radio Shropshire, but the comments to me were those of a man knowing that he won’t be here in January. Some positive thoughts about certain team mates, bur he was very clear about his feelings on tactics. That 5 at the back isn’t working, that were set up negatively (a fine line that the system has to work otherwise we’re not offering any attacking thrust and Posh worked that out), also that he felt we should be going for it more and not playing it safe by packing the side with negative structure and intent. No direct criticism of the management team, but it didn’t take much to get what he was driving at…….not what everyone wants to hear but I found it very refreshing to hear a player with an honest opinion!

He is saying what many on this board have said, And been criticised for! I’m not surprised if the players feel like this, there can’t be a footballer around that looks forward to playing such negative, turgid, uninspired stuff. However, it does appear to be the best/only way we can get points, and the players can’t blame all their poor execution and lack of basic skills on the tactics.

Depends if he’s fit. From what we’ve been told he’ll only be good to go again in March, no one will take his contract if he’s unfit - especially as he’s one of the highest earners (allegedly). Wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up In management the next few years.

Anti-town player 😂
I did say pre-season Taylor wanted him off the books.

I've no doubt we will be saying goodbye to many of the higher earners at the earliest opportunity. It may even start as early as January if we have any players clubs would be interested in buying. Definately will happen come the end of the season.
I'm guessing that the new management structure will be told the need to get the wage bill down and replace those players with lower wage bill players (ie, youngsters from either higher level clubs reserve sides or the likes if those from Ireland).
Trouble is if all the experienced players go I cant see the youngsters coping with the riggers of a full season at our level so we may well struggle more than we are currently doing.

I heard him on the radio. He speaks well. He said they wont know the extent of his injury until the cast comes off, and then it could be Feb, Mar or even April before hes back.

I wouldn’t think it will be very helpful to his team mates or other staff if he is critical in public though. Much better to say it in private I would have thought.

Anti-town player 😂 I did say pre-season Taylor wanted him off the books. why is he an anti town player ? He said something like, viewing from the stands I can see we need to press more and not give opponents so much time on the ball, critic of the style we adopt…..Or something along those lines. Oh Matty Taylor was also critical of our poor defending for the goals, said something like we’ve got to do better. Our performance wasn’t perfect by a long way…….. (Martin thinks ‘anti towns’ still original 🤣)

I think he speaks very well on the radio. Its probably a difficult time for him with the injury especially as his contract is up in the summer. If played on the right I think he's the best defender aside from Dunkley. I'm surprised the cup games are not used as an experiment to try 4 at the back. Although not the FA Cup. Wasn't 3 at the back introduced by Ricketts. Too many centre backs at the Club and not enough full backs.

Flanagan is only stating the obvious. We have no midfield, the back five merely hoof it up and hope for the best. This is why we typically only have around 30% possession in most matches. Possession doesn't always translate into goals, but it makes them more likely.

Let's hope, but also....let's not hold our breath.

Based on the other players that have come from Ireland I would think they are here to be worked on to bring them up to L1 standard hopefully for next season, rather than being an instant fix for our current short comings. The other bloke we are being linked with from Crystal Palace seems much more of an instant goalscoring forward, but we know how Shrewsbury has long been a goalscorers graveyard over many years.

I think Flanagan's excellent - refreshingly informative and as honest as he probably can be in the circumstances. However, I don't believe he said that 5 at the back "isn't working" and we're set up negatively (even though I believe that myself). What I recall him saying was that we try to play positively with 3 at the back but that opponents also try to counter that by pressing the wing backs into a 5, effectively stopping us from getting out in numbers. In other words, it's great when it works but sometimes it doesn't. He did say we don't get enough men in the box, which I'd say is a symptom of us not having enough in midfield to allow more to get there, which takes us back to the problem of the wing backs not getting as far up the pitch as they need to if the 3 man defence is to work.

Doubt Flanagan will be here come the summer assuming the rumours regarding his high wages is correct.

I always thought we’d get him off the books in January as we change our model, the injury has ruined that. He must have signed a good contract to leave Sunderland mid season when he was playing games

He must have signed a good contract to leave Sunderland mid season when he was playing games Flanagan left to secure himself a better deal ? and was sold a promotion push the following season , he left Sunderland as an international player in a side that got promoted and joined a side 4 points about relegation shame he got injured, had just got himself back in the side and was playing well, not a chance he's staying with us though, he will end up somewhere like Bristol rovers next season

The only thing he lacks is goals/contributions in final third
