Start of the European competitions with TNS and Shamrock Rovers in action in Champions League qualifiers.
TNS cruising into a 3-0 halftime lead against Montenegran side Decic, with our old player Josh Daniel's creating their first goal.
Shamrock are currently 0-0 at HT away to Vikingur in Iceland.

A good result for Shamrock here in Reykjavík, Víkingur are no pushovers. The talk here is that Víkingur have some expectation to win in Ireland, they were disappointed not to come away with more yesterday.

Can't admit to paying any attention at all with this until the Group Stage - pretty Micky Mouse stuff at this level

Can't admit to paying any attention at all with this until the Group Stage - pretty Micky Mouse stuff at this level For me I find these early stages FAR more interesting than the group stages. Seeing what the little teams can do, rather than the same old big names playing each other most seasons. I switch off at the group stages except if one of the small teams should get there. I'm the same with the FA Cuo too.

Yes I saw that and thought a team from N Ireland should be doing better against a team from Gibraltar. Still second leg to come at home.

2 teams in action tonight in the Champions League qualifying round 2nd leg.
TNS drew 1-1 in Montenegro to go through 4-1 on aggregate. And Shamrock Rovers won 2-1 at home after a creditable 0-0 draw in Iceland last week.

2 more games in Europe tonight.
Larne, 3-0 down from the first leg in Riga lost the second leg 4-0 so exit the Champions League after a heavy 7-0 defeat over two legs. They drop into the Conference League qualifiers.
Also in N Ireland but much closer here as Crusaders 2-0 down after the first leg against Welsh side Caernarfon went a further goal behind before storming back to a 3-3 draw which was the same after extra time. Both sides scored their first 7 penalties, before both sides then missed their 8th. Crusaders then missed their 9th but Caernarfon made sure of progress by netting their 9th. This was in the Conference League.
I wont be able to post tomorrows results as I shall be up in the air for a flying visit to Dubrovnik for the weekend. If anyone else wants to post the results feel free to.

Takes me back many years when I had dreams of the town being in the European Cup after winning the Welsh Cup. Sadly not to be with us being in England. Really used to enjoy our participation in that competition. Not a great crowd puller but a nice distraction from the League.

Especially the night a Town player decided to put his Penalty out of the Wakeman End

Went to most of the away games while we were in 2nd division, some great moments as a travelling fan, far too many to repeat on here. Maybe the subject of a thread if it's own, I'll start one.

TNS finding the next round a bit tougher. 3-0 against Ferencvaros after 25 mins
Shamrock Rovers about to start against Sparta Prague as you'd probably assume they are going to similarly struggle
Champions league is hard work. Do the go into lesser competitions if they get knocked out?

Focus here has firmly turned to tomorrow nights conference league qualifiers:
Valur vs St. Mirren Breiðablik vs Drita Víkingur vs Egnatia Stjarnan vs Paide
The Valur St. Mirren game has had most of the headlines so far but that's not surprising given a certain Gylfi Sigurðsson in their ranks.

BTW, had a look at the TNS web site, they have a funded placement in the analysis department "In partnership with the University of Chester, The New Saints Football Club (TNS) are offering a 50% Funded MSc placement" if anyone's interested.

It is great to see the little clubs in European competitions.
Sadly we will never see the likes of a champions league final with teams such as Malmo or Forrest again.
Money now dominates

Northern Irish club Cliftonville were on the losing side of a 2-1 1st leg match with Latvian side FC Auda tonight in the Conference League. A mountain to climb in the 2nd leg to go further now.

5 games involving British Isles clubs tonight.
Kilmarnock could only draw 1-1 with Club Brugge in the Europa League meaning a tricky 2nd leg tie to come in Belgium.
All the other games were in the Conference League. The other Scottish club St Mirren playing their first European game in about 30 years got a 0-0 draw at Valur of Reykjavik. Our own Roland Idowu came on as sub on 57 mins and former player Micael Mandron was on for just over an hour from the kick off.
Irish club Shelbourne lost 3-0 in Zurich and will be lucky to gain anything in the 2nd leg you would think.
St Patrick's Athletic win 3-1 at home against Vaduz and will hope to go through in Lichtenstein.
Meanwhile Caernarfon will have nothing to play for in their home 2nd leg tie after getting thumped 6-0 in Poland against Legia Warsaw.

In tonight's second leg games Shamrock lost 4-2 (6-2 on aggregate. And TNS playing for pride after last weeks result let in a further 2 goals but our own Josh Daniels got on the scoresheet with a 91st minute consolation goal. But 7-1 on aggregate sees them out.

As mentioned above Caernarfon lost 5-0 at home (well at Bangor) to Legia Warsaw 11-0 on aggregate. Ouch.
In other games St Patrick's drew 2-2 in Vaduz, Lichtenstein to progress 5-3.
Shelbourne could only draw 0-0 at home to FC Zurich to go out 3-0
Kilmarnock went down 1-0 ( 2-1 agg) at Cercle Brugge. As that was in the Europa league they drop down to the Conference League next week.
St Mirren progressed 4-1 at home to Valur of Iceland (4-1 agg). Our Roland played the first 89 mins.
And last night Cliftonville went down 2-0 (4-1 agg) at Auda of Latvia.
Think St Patricks and St Mirren are the only clubs still in ahead of other higher ranked clubs from England and Scotland joining in next week.
