Not being open about the transfer, he doesn't have to say anything if it falls through he looks like a mug. So he did the right thing.

Disappointing by the club really.....I thought we were in a new honest and open era with Mellon in charge.
Big void to fill when Connor leaves, but I wish him the best of luck.....he is a credit to himself and his family the way he conducted himself before signing his last contract and that is rare this day & age.

Absolutely right block17. Transfer negotiations have to be confidential - all parties are likely to want that. It's unfair and naive to say Mellon or the club have been dishonest about it.
Anyway, good move for Connor and I wish him well - he did a really good job for us. It always seemed unlikely we'd keep him and Woods until their contracts ran out. Let's hope we've negotiated a great deal.

Good luck to Connor. You did the job you set out to do when you re-signed last summer - to get us back in to league 1.
Go buy yourself a blue and amber bucket and spade....

Good luck to him, was always going to leave sooner or later. Served us well and I hope he improves and we have a sell on clause and he gets a big money move to a premier league side in a year or so.
Now to wait and see who MM has lined up as a replacement as he will surely have known this was going to happen.

Does he need to be replaced or did we just hold out with JG and Ellis till Nat comes back?

Has there actually been any news of his departure or is this pure speculation, which could lead to a bit of egg on face for people..... he could actually be injured!!

I think all transfers should be kept confidential by the club until the deal is completed. They usually involve delicate negotiations so it is not very wise to share what's going on with the World and his wife.

Bit more than speculation judging by some of the comments on that Brighton forum but obviously not yet signed sealed and delivered yet...

I'm happy with NKP,Ellis,Grandison and Smith (aged 19, only 3 years younger than Goldson).
Get in a decent, pacy winger who will have a go at defenders (similar to Ainsworth,Wright).
The spine of our team is very strong but we need players who will put in crosses for Collins and Barnett.

Pete O'Rouke has tweeted Brighton. That guy is never wrong!

That was who I meant, he may have left Sky now but he has got so many right over the years he is about as reliable a source as you get on twitter.

Pete O'Rouke - same guy who tweeted about Micky Mellon set to become shrewsbury manager - which seemed to be completely out of the blue when it seemed Michael Jackson would be the new permanent manager.

Has there actually been any news of his departure or is this pure speculation, which could lead to a bit of egg on face for people..... he could actually be injured!! Good point. News of the Brighton " deal" seems to originate from a tweet from a single, not entirely reliable source: "He's been slightly less reliable since leaving SKY I'd say. I'm sure that site has called a few things wrong and he rarely used to be wrong? Seems to be going for rumours etc heavy since he left SKY that's for sure..." Still seems that Goldson's off somewhere though - hopefully QPR or someone else will come back in and jack up the bidding!

We're not a feeder club for the likes of Brighton. I wouldn't acccept less than £1 million with extras. Connor is going to be a Championship player at the very least. If Brighton don't want to pay the real value, there's plenty out there that will.

If Brighton don't want to pay the real value, there's plenty out there that will. If we got anything like 750k plus sell on clause I'd be happy. Liam Cooper went to Leeds last year for 500-750k and he is very similar to Connor. Can't underestimate Matt Williams experience with these situations, I bet he would've been through similar scenarios before and he will secure us the best deal. Ryan Woods is where the real money is at. He does what your Joe Allen,Leon Britton,Jordan Henderson, do e.g retain the ball and rarely score and it's a key feature of passing sides. Ashley Westwood is quite similar to Woods, he went to Villa a couple of years back for £2 million.
