First day of the first test, 3 spinners, 1 seamer (with a dodgy injury record), a big risk. 246 all out, people suggesting it's slightly below par but could have been a lot worse without Stokes
All eyes on our spinners now

India's new opener Yashasvi Jaiswal having fun 52 off 48, 78-0 off 11.5 overs.
Hartley's 50 up on his Debut off 34 Balls

Tough first day debut for Tom Hartley.
Mind you Rehan Ahmed also went for over 7 an over in his 3 over spell.

It must be tough going into a test match with little to no real preparation, especially on the sub continent and on a wicket set up for spin.

Great knock from Pope. I'm still expecting an India victory but good to see we haven't rolled over. If we can get a lead of 250+ then it may give us a chance but appreciate that's a big ask

Well this is very unexpected, India 119-7 still need 112 to win Tom Harley takes 4 of the top 5 batsmen Blimey England pulled that out the bag Hartley 7 wickets :-)

Amazing victory which the below puts into perspective. Brilliant knock from Pope and brilliant bowling from Hartley, both showed great character to come back after a poor first innings

Incredible win. Suggests those on here saying we had no chance in this series due to the absence of Shagger might need to rethink.

Very good win by England. Hartley did well take the amount of wickets that he did after being hit all over the place in the first innings. I was expecting us to lose this series 5 nil so anything we do now will be better than that. The previous away series in India in 2021 England won the first test but then ended up losing the series 4 1 on dusty spinning galore wickets getting bowled out for 100 in most innings.

Interesting to see W Indies win in Oz against a strong Aussie team.

After the first day I thought England would lose inside three days. Their batting was poor and bowling even worse. Some turnaround!

Interesting to see W Indies win in Oz against a strong Aussie team. 7 Wickets with a broken toe for the West Indian, and all quiet on the Steve Smith a failure as opener front after his stoic 91 not out.

With scores of 12, 11*, 6 and 91*, it's a bit early to start saying he's a conquered opening the batting But regardless, when West Indies have just secured a famous win, I wouldn't expect many people to be commenting on Smith

England spinner Jack Leach is a significant doubt for the second Test against India because of a knee injury sustained in the first Test.

Is Minormorris Australian? Seem to recall he spent most of last summer glorifying Warner.
