An excellent post, thank you. It might be but if you can reduce it to neat bullet points I'll have a read👍 The predictably hilarious response of the "who cares" poster. As long as they're on the Tory side, it doesn't seem to matter to you what anyone does.

No mention in Wakefield's article of relocating to Durham. But there are some clues as to where they actually are. She mentions her child playing in a doctor's uniform, taking temperatures, and her playing with her child - "As Dom lay sweating, Cedd and I made a palace out of polystyrene packaging.Long after my son lost interest I was busy gluing on towers, and cutting coloured acetate to make window panes. When Dom finally made it into the kitchen, he found me manically applying cheap plastic stick-on gems to a loo-roll tower. ‘Mum’s busy playing,’ I heard Cedd tell Dom, as he trotted off to fetch the oximeter". And then this: "After the uncertainty of the bug itself, we emerged from quarantine into the almost comical uncertainty of London lockdown". She does seem to be creating the impression that they remained in London. We now know they didn't. Sounds more like a work of fiction than reporting to me.

As long as they're on the Tory side, it doesn't seem to matter to you what anyone does. That's how the Tories got in. They don't burden their supporters with policies or small print, just vote for us because we aren't Jeremy Corbyn and "Get Brexit Done" - don't burden Tory voters with the fact that it didn't "Get Brexit Done", it just started all the trade negotiations and changes. Please keep it nice and simple for the Tory voters.

I note that apart from one tweet reminding people to self isolate, Boris hasn't surfaced at all, leaving Shapps to flounder at questions as to whether Johnson knew about where Cummings was (and by inference why the rest of us were left in the dark about it).

It's down to one important criteria now, if Cummings does not go then this government's credibility does. Nonsense. Totally non story.

Brilliant stuff from the papers, break the story, let number 10, numerous ministers and MPs defend the indefensible, dig a deeper hole by telling more lies, and make lame excuses, then boom, a follow-up story that makes them all look like a bunch of tits.

Senior government advisor travels over a 1000 miles (two trips by all accounts) after Government tells us only to travel if necessary. The questions that make it a story are. How many times did he need to refuel? Did he stop on the way and back and have contact with other people outside his family group? Why couldn't his relations come to London and self-isolate after looking after his son? And before you start with the 'Remainer' conspiracy theories, he's getting stick from 'Brexiters' too.

Downing Street declined to comment on the new claims before publication.
"On Saturday night, after initial online publication, it issued this statement: “Yesterday [Friday] the Mirror and Guardian wrote inaccurate stories about Mr Cummings. Today [Saturday] they are writing more inaccurate stories including claims that Mr Cummings returned to Durham after returning to work in Downing Street on 14 April. We will not waste our time answering a stream of false allegations about Mr Cummings from campaigning newspapers.”
Methinks I detect a hint of panic.

Is this relevant to the dominic cummings issue or are you doing your bit for tory hq? I'm a 50 year trade union member, Matron, I'll die still being Juan. I've stood on more picket lines in the pouring rain fighting for I thought was justice than you've done endoscopes. But I don't give any Juan a free ride, whatever their political allegiance. But i've become disillusioned with them all to be honest. More cynical of the whole system. But I don't mind joining the Tory party if I thought for a moment it would annoy you. Still doesn’t explain why you throw that article into a discussion about Cummings. Seemed to me a little bit like one of those tory diversions to try and hide bad news. You’re obviously proud of your picketing and clearly wear it as a badge of honour. My union won’t strike, and if they did I would ignore them. I of course don’t know you personally so can only make judgements based on your posting, and as they say, if you sound like a tory, you probably are.

There is the additional point here that when Cummings arrived in Durham he was suffering from Covid-19, and therefore was putting his parents at risk. Nice chap.

Phew thought for a minute he’d been kippered That tells you everything you need to know about Kawczynski. How about the mind blowing inaccuracies peddled by the Cabinet Office such as: The PM's official spokesman told reporters at the time that Mr Cummings was isolating 'at home'. 'At no stage was he or his family spoken to by the police about this matter, as is being reported'. At least we now have a 2nd Tory MP saying that Cummings should go - Damian Collins.

There are always going to be people on the right who will defend the government regardless of what they do. What matters is convincing enough of the soft government supporters that they’re in the wrong, that’s what swings elections.
This whole Cummings issue from what I can see is turning the soft supporters against the government, how can you defend the indefensible? One rule for them and another for us.
Laughable the Tories are choosing this hill to die on instead of throwing Cummings under the bus, mind.

Funny how the brain works. Just heard Grant Shapps on the Andrew Marr Show and it made me think of Radio 5 Live programme "Fighting Talk" and the final round called " defend the Indefensible".

I know British politics is now full of tribalism and whatsboutery but I'm really struggling to see how even the most ardent Tory can defend this. The faith, trust and confidence in the government over their handling over this pandemic is reducing as every week goes by and if they have any chance of regaining any of that they have to get rid of him.
The saddest part of this is we are in the middle of a pandemic, people are still dying, the country is under lockdown (of sorts) and there are serious questions about how the country is going to open up/recover and all the focus is on one man. In a strange way the government are probably grateful for this as it takes focus away on other failings and things which are under scrutiny & they would struggle to answer (e.g the ridiculous quarantine).
