Would have been at Coventry with Ricketts. He started out very promising and has gradually gone backwards over the last couple of years. Kicking has always been an issue but there's a decent keeper in there somewhere.

He played a couple of games for us in pre-season and wasn't offered anything.
If this is the quality of keeper we're bringing in I sincerely hope Arnold stays fit between now and May.

Now I'm usually an optimist or try to refrain from the usual unrealistic expectations of fans.
But RCC needs to have improved a huge amount than his performances in pre season to be anywhere near the required standard.
I almost think we may bring in two keepers. Ricketts said something about short and long term regarding keepers.
Regardless if this is true and RCC is not up to it then I will really question the mentality of this football club.
Wouldn't be suprised to see docherty get called back. That'll be the next thing that blindsides Ricketts.

Is he really as bad as everyone says or are we going to give him a chance if he comes?

One of the big reasons given by people in support of the appointment of Ricketts, particularly over Askey given both had a non-league managerial background, was the contacts he would have within the game. He certainly hasn't demonstrated this so far. Big couple of weeks coming up, time will tell.

So what's changed since preseason?
If Coyne (and Filan) didn’t think he was up to earning a contract then..strange

Big couple of weeks coming up, time will tell. if he signs this keeper , he will have brought in a much loved but injury prone midfielder , a player we wont see till next season and possibly a rejected trialist. who was not good enough at the beginning of the season .

A new keeper is the least of our problems Let Mr Coyne sit on the bench and save a few bob a great team is built from the keeper forward I thought our keeper was totally awful today you could argue he saved a couple of 1 on 1s personally I thought they were bad misses and he got lucky, should have come , missed his opportunity and the ball didn't go in, lucky/skill ? I think luck today he's slow and his kicking was awful

I think luck today he's slow and his kicking was awful I wouldn’t totally disagree with this. I do think he should be given some credit for his saves. However, they are saves that I would expect to make as an amateur, never mind SA as a pro. But if I was asked if I have total confidence in him, my answer is no. I think he is slow, cumbersome and doesn’t command his area enough (especially given his size). As for his distribution?! Jesus, it’s absolutely dire.

I think luck today he's slow and his kicking was awful I think he’s slow and part of the problem, but today he was man of the match by a country mile. Saving 3 one on ones isn’t luck, considering most keepers are normally beaten from them. Today he was good but his kicking still laughable. Would still bring in a new keeper immediately though - Sunderland thought he was time wasting at their place but he’s the same when you’re 2 down. Does my head in.

I’m far from his biggest admirer but today he wasn’t awful. There were definitely 9 more awful players on the pitch today.

Agree about Arnolds distribution being nonsensical at times. The hold up at goal kicks and kicking from hands infuriates me too but I wonder how much of that is what he's been told to do?
I think it's more then unfair to take his saves away from him today though. Without him we'd have lost 5 or 6 nil today. I think a couple in the second half were poor finishing also but his save down low to his right in the first half was exceptional.

Comes back to the old cliche when a keeper makes a save - “that’s his job”. Never understand why it isn’t “his job” when it comes to strikers scoring, wide players putting in decent crosses, midfielders hitting accurate passes ...... Arnold did his job today, apart from his kicking being dire. Did anyone else? Some haven’t done much of what they’re paid to do for a while now.
