Now that the referee has been announced, I feel it's apt to start discussion about Saturday's HUGE match - Salop v Blackburn - featuring the return of Jayson!
With over 6,000 tickets already reportedly sold, it's shaping up to be a good day out for Town fans old and new.
Blackburn sit 11th in the table having won four and lost three, with their most recent loss coming on Saturday against AFC Wimbledon following a solitary goal from Don's striker Appiah. I don't think I need to remind you where we sit. 😉
The ref for Saturday's match is a Mr David Webb. So far, he's issued 17 yellow cards this season over eight games (Just over two per game). We met Mr Webb last season in our 2-1 away defeat to Bolton (One yellow - Ogogo) and our 3-0 home defeat to Sheffield United (Four yellows - three for Salop - one was Riley). Interestingly, Webb has already reffed Blackburn once this season - and that was their 3-1 home defeat to Doncaster. An omen perhaps?
Anyway - it's going to be a really tough test. But one that I think we can at the very least take a draw from. I think with a decent home support and us getting behind the lads, we could put on a right good show.
The bookies unsurprisingly have Blackburn down as the favourites. Shrewsbury - 2/1 · Draw - 12/5 · Blackburn - 13/10
What does everyone think? Can we make it nine games undefeated and defend our League One leading position?

Hes he ref that wouldn't give that stone wall pen at Bolton that cost us a point. Also hugely favored the "big team" that day... a worry!
He made the Salopcast "worst ref of the year" award category.

Can we make it nine games undefeated and defend our League One leading position? Blackburn listed as favourites? Although that goes slightly against current form, I can see why the bookies have quoted those odds - Blackburn are still a 'big' club, especially in L1 and that has been taken into consideration. Saying that, Town at 2/1 is pretty generous - would we have had such shortened odds if this game had been played 6 weeks ago? Bookies are also banking on our unbeaten record going at some point - and Blackburn are a decent opposition for us. I'm in two minds about how Saturday could go for us...part of me thinks that a defeat wouldn't be the end of the world, as it would get the monkey off our back with regards to the unbeaten run - the other part of me thinks that we are also due to give someone an absolute pasting....so much has been said about us winning games by the odd goal. Could we be in for a momentous result on Saturday? Here's hoping! COYB!

I think this will end up as 1-1 - I'd be happy enough with that.
Shrewsbury seem very good once they take a lead so if we don't get the first goal then we could be in trouble.

Haven't listened does he say if you can buy tickets late on Saturday? A bit of a dilemma my son who has been a season ticket holder for the last few years but not now wants to leave it until 2.30 (due to a medical procedure which may leave him unable to attend) and get his ticket from the West Stand ticket office to save queuing for the same reason. I can't see how they can open that as they don't have access to the 'membership numbers' system so can't control who they sell to, or do they?

I would recommend email Ticket Supervisor Tom Hughes - tom.hughes@shrewsburytown.co.uk who I have done recently-and check what can be done. My understanding is you can buy tickets for west stand in advance and collect or buy from west stand ticket office.

More nervous about this one 1-1 draw and the run goes on.

I'd be happy with a draw. The run goes on and we are still top of the table.
Clearly the bookies don't yet believe in us, although I do understand them making Rovers the favourites for this one, just as they did with Wigan.
Hopefully we can prove them wrong again... and carry on proving them wrong all season.
And although Wigan will almost surely win tonight, that 9/1 on Northampton is tempting... mainly because 9/1 outsider in any three horse race is tempting.

No matter what we will still top the league come 1700 Saturday (I have an O level in stating the bleeding obvious!) But maybe not in Maths. We have 22 points and a goal difference of +7 If we lose on Saturday, we will still have 22 points and a goal difference of +6 (or less, depending on how many we lose by) Wigan have 16 points and a goal difference of +11. If Wigan win tonight and beat Peterborough (A) on Saturday, they will also have 22 points plus a goal difference of +13 (or more) So Wigan would be top and we would be second. So we will not top the league, no matter what, come 1700 Saturday. However, I don't think we will lose against Blackburn, and it may be tough for Wigan to win both... so I am hopeful that we will still be top of the league at 1700 on Saturday.

Don't know why we should be necessarily worried about a team that has just been turned over by Wimbledon at home.
As far as the ref goes I would say it wouldn't do any harm for a few (hundred) of us to remind him of that decision that cost us a point at Bolton last season. You know, remind him he owes us one.
