Someone somewhere needs to hold the EFL to account. This is a real slap in the face to properly run clubs like ourselves.

The next team due to face Bolton who have several players out with injury should call the game off just to see if the EFL would dare to take any action against them.

Disgusting, lily livered decision. Disgraceful.
I would love to see every club due to play Bolton call the game off due to injuries, etc. The precedent is set - just do what you like because no one gives a damn.
The EFL should hang their heads in shame - not fit for purpose? They’re not fit for anything. But they are good for nothing I suppose.

This is yet another example of why the EFL are not fit for purpose. It’s never fair on the fans of the clubs involved but Bolton and Portsmouth should’ve been expelled from the league. It’s simple, follow the Conference’s lead, you abide by the rules or you’re out, no grey areas. I truly believe that these “big” clubs have been treated leniently because of who they are. Seemingly rules or punishments are adapted and enforced randomly.
What precedent does this latest punishment set, if you’ve got an injury hit squad coinciding with one or two international call ups just call your game off as you wish claiming it wouldn’t be fair to expose your youth players to such a stressful situation! Everyone knows the real reason Bolton called off the game with Doncaster was not about player’s welfarerather it would enable them to play the game once they’d put a squad together post administration... by the way I’m led to believe that their squad budget is massive, that’s a whole different discussion!

This is what Keith Hill thinks of other clubs in the league....Are we meant to have some sympathy for Football Ventures whilst us smaller, well run clubs are trying to do the right thing? These double standards are appalling..... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50511195Hill was asked to respond after a Doncaster fan told BBC Radio Manchester that the decision was "a disgrace". "No. Simple as that. Nobody knows what the new consortium have gone through," Hill said. "Nobody knew what the club went through over the summer as they wrestled to get the club out of administration with the previous owner. Football Ventures did not deserve to be punished. "I have no thought process leading into sympathy for any other football club in League One

Well he wouldn’t would he or he’d lose his job. What the consortium went through has absolutely nothing to do with the way they carried on with regard to matters on the field of play and certainly nothing to do with the spineless, gutless, disgraceful behaviour of the EFL.
Well run clubs should be getting together to show the EFL exactly how they feel. Perhaps a bonus system for being well run - instead of losing (or not ) points they should gain them.
I am so angry about this. And as for Keith Hill I have no words.

Breaking News- EFL have announced that they are appealing the decision made by the independant commission, who imposed the penalties against Bolton that were announced yesterday. EFL state that the penalties are too leniant
Didn't realise that it was a seperate commission

If Bolton stay up by a narrow margin having beaten Donny in the replay there will be uproar
Any team going down is likely to consider legal action

Bolton not being deducted any points is going to give them all the motivation they need to pull out all the stops against all the remaining teams they play this season (which includes us twice).
Meanwhile, all the teams that were gifted 3 points by the Bolton kids are the ones who benefit.
Let's hope the EFL appeal succeeds, and is heard fairly soon.

Whole new take on things, it sounded like the EFL had made the original decision.
Fingers crossed.
Another thought, why isn't the EFL making the decision? EFL run the competion and the rules it operates under.

Bolton are losing a lot of friends over this and any remaining sympathy they still had from the game in general. I always liked Keith Hill so it's particularly annoying to read the rubbish he's been coming out with since the decision was announced.

Let's hope the appeal is scheduled to take place fairly soon. The longer this drags on, the more unfair it is to the Clubs in the relegation zone, who don't know where they stand.
Doncaster fans are livid, and the rest of us aren't over impressed with the 3 point gifts given by Bolton to some teams earlier in the season.

I was totally confused by this appeal - I also thought the initial decision was made by the EFL.

"I have no thought process leading into sympathy for any other football club in League One Keith Hill's comment is ridiculous - "Football Ventures did not deserve to be punished"? It's Bolton Wanderers at the bottom of League 1, not Football Ventures. FV bought into Bolton knowing they faced a further sanction after the Brentford cancellation. The club has to be punished for failing to fulfil a fixture, regardless of who owns it. It should also be punished for the Doncaster postponement. A suspended points deduction would be a joke decision and undermine the credibility of the EFL. This is about football clubs, not owners. I believe Bolton should be deducted enough points to ensure their relegation this season. Hill can save his great escape yarn for another time - it would be sickening to see them trying to milk the romance out of it given their appalling misdemeanours.

This will now run and run, as Bolton will appeal against a new decision. Who were on this independent commission anyway?

This exchange on @bbcradiomanc:
"Keith we had a Doncaster fan on the phone earlier on, he called it a farce, can you understand their frustrations with the suspended game"
Hill: "No."
"Simple as that Keith?"
Hill: "Simple as that."

Comment from the Rochdale Board:-
I don't really care what Bury (the entity or their fans) think. But I do feel that Bury and Bolton were very similar cases but handled completely differently by the authorities.
The EFL said Bury didn't have the resources to start and fulfil their fixtures and continually postponed their games until they got their house in order.
Bolton, however, were able to start the season with a tiny squad of youth players, then call the competition into disrepute by getting hammered every game and deciding after a while they couldn't play due to "player welfare". We now have some of the league having benefited from huge wins over a weak Bolton side where other clubs are going to struggle against them post January when they flash the cash. That's not fair and will materially change the outcome of the league.
Really, both Bolton and Bury should never have started the season. If either of them were taken over successfully before the EFL's deadline then fair enough - start the season late and deal with the fixture pile-up and the consequences of this.
The whole saga just looks like Bolton got more chances to succeed than Bury.

Why did the EFL farm this out to an independent disciplinary panel? I’m not aware they did the same with Bury! There is no consistency from them and incredibly week management of the Leagues!

So how can the EFL do anything ?, and besides I thought anything independently observed was gods gift to the truth these days ?

Hill: "Simple as that." Make no mistake about it; Keith Hill has been brought in on a remit to keep Bolton Wanderers in league one and push for a championship promotion next season. He's hardly going to say anything publically which doesn't support this decision. Totally baffled by the need to farm this one out to an independent body though and would be really interested to know the reasoning behind that. Hard to feel like Bolton aren't getting special treatment due to whatever remnants of the premier league sheen.

Be interesting to see what action is taken against a LESSER club, all this is totally wrong, when poor old Accrington Stanley fell from grace in the early sixties, bearing in mind they were founder members of the Football league, the league did not think twice and booted them out, but fair play they found their way back, so is all of this to do with how big and how small clubs are.

Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture before pointing the finger, this EFL thing was getting like Chinese whispers. As much as I have no amount of sympathy for what has happened/happening with Bolton, it is a tad embarrassing blaming the wrong people for the decisions being made. Most good governing bodies, authorities, and business have independent review committees to avoid any vested interest or hidden agendas when making disciplinary decisions.

That’s as may be but the EFL hardly covered themselves with glory with regards to Bury. If the article telling the public was worded so as to infer it was them who made the decision then it is hardly surprising people jumped to conclusions.
I have been banging on for years about badly worded information at our own club this possibly just indicates how important getting the right message across is.

Independent review or not, ultimately the buck stops with no one else but the EFL.

Agreed about institutions using independent external panels but what is odd is they didn’t in the Bury case. I keep on banging on that the EFL should follow the lead of the Conference, make the rules clear and enforce the rules consistently, break the rules and you’re out ... plain and simple. This way there’s no need for the mess that the EFL make of these situations.
