I don't think that delaying the games would have been any benefit, Bolton were still operating as a club, they had a team, they could accommodate the games, so why delay the games which would have denied them some invaluable income at a difficult time. It seems that the agenda on here revolves around how can we get the FA to dock them as many points as possible to benefit our own chances of avoiding relegation, which is a rather sad and fickle inditement for a fellow football club and its supporters. The FA admittedly need to be more transparent about these situations and be able to provide some solutions or penalise the clubs accordingly. At the end of the day big business, including football clubs, finances can be made to look very complex and can easily give varying pictures depending how they are presented. The picture that many clubs in the league decide to portray to the FA are commonly weighted to provide stability, although not necessarily factual, so Bolton are not alone, but it doesn't make it right what has happened. I think we should concentrate on our own fortunes rather that trying to compensate them by wanting others to fail by points deductions or using the issue of points gained from a weakened team etc etc. Let's hope that Bolton come out of this and given the right ownership will rise again as a decent club.

It's got nothing to do with our possible relegation, not that I believe we'd be in a relegation fight if Bolton suffered no points deduction at all. This is not a Shrewsbury Town issue and I refute your suggestion that my opinion is in any way based on what might be my club's best interests. It's got everything to do with setting strong examples to discourage clubs from the ridiculously wilful overspending that distorts competition, encourages some clubs to risk ruin and penalises those clubs who manage their affairs sensibly and responsibly. I don't much care what happens to Bolton - they've created their mess and must suffer the consequences. Relegation isn't the end of the world and they deserve it more than any other club in League 1. They'll rise again as a " decent club", as you put it, but they should be doing it from a lower level than they're currently occupying.

No agenda or self-interest at all. Highly doubt we'll be low (or high) enough for Bolton's fortunes or our results against them to have any major effect on us. We look very much like mid-table material at the moment. I really don't care about further points deductions from them either, as although deserved I think they are almost certain to be relegated anyway. The big issue is just that they will have effectively played the first part of the season as a completely different (and massively substandard) side than that which completes the rest of the season. This damages the integrity of the division and could leave a really sour taste if someone goes/stays up at another's expense because of gaining a 5-0 walkover against a youth team. Can you not see the problem with that scenario?

Bolton still have a relatively small squad and some of their recent signings aren't yet playing. Unfortunately for them one of their recent signings broke ribs and collarbone in a car accident last week and will be out for some time. It'll take time for their new side to gel, I'm not surprised results are continuing to go the same way just yet. Dunna worry. By the time we play them, they will be firing on all cylinders. Cheaty new AFC Bolton ahead against the biggest team in the league. And so it begins.

Not sure how Bolton have cheated,to me it's more the efl are incompetent.and Sunderland are bigger than Bolton on fan base only.if you look at boltons history they have been far more successful than the mackems, and spent far more of their history in the first tier than the so called massive Sunderland.

Caught the first half yesterday and they must be a million miles away from what they were at the start of the season. Nothing to write home about but they managed OK against a Blackpool side sat 4th in the table. To suggest that delaying games would have no benefit to Bolton just doesn't make sense at all. Its perfectly clear as to why it would.

I watched the second half, and fairs fair they battled hard but LOOKED knackered... the lack of pre season for a few of them will tell as the weeks role on too.... i predict few good weeks for them now but late number and December the wheels coming off again as teams just have better longevity in games. The more in went in the more it looked like Blackpool might win it.

Its perfectly clear as to why it would. Even if they called off the game with solely honest intentions of protecting their young players, they did so at their own initiative without even consulting with the league and their opponent. It's a flagrant breach of procedure and they should forfeit the game 3-0 (actually generous given they were losing every game by 5 or 6 at the time) as well as being docked points.

Wont hold my breath on any extra points deduction. But to most normal supporters would surely feel that an extra 3 points per game to be reasonable.

What a buch of complete muppets that run the EFL, I think that statement reflects everyones frustrations against the EFL. For god sake what a shambles they have made over this on top of their total fiasco over the Bury situation. Maybe we can see why clubs are run by such 'fit and proper folks' when the EFL are run in the way they are. Surely even Bolton would be happy to move on with a further 6 point deduction than be dragged through this the way they are. At least they will finally know what they are up against in the second half if the season.

Pathetic doesn’t even begin the describe the EFL and this decision. It should be a fairly clear matter to decide, it’s not Brexit for goodness sake.

I can't begin to explain how dismayed I am by this decision. 5 points - suspended for 18 months i.e. they will unlikely ever be deducted those points. Fines of £20/50k with 50% suspended - pittance. How is this in anyway a sanction or deterrent? It sets a dangerous precedent allowing teams to cancel fixtures at will. I was already disappointed with the approach of the EFL on certain matters but this takes the biscuit.

Well, I am flabbergasted at that.
This sets a very dangerous precedent for any club that doesn't fancy turning up for a game
Quite Shocking

Other teams have been affected by Bolton’s inability/unwillingness to fulfill their fixtures, no consideration for them at all. Quite shocking from EFL.

Absolute shambles.
'Fit and proper owners'? The EFL need to sort themselves out first.

Shocking and very disapointing decision. They should have had at least six points deducted for this (three for each of the games concerned) - can't help thinking there are a few very relieved officials at Bolton tonight. EFL need to have a long hard look at themselves - not fit to govern in their current state.

Disappointing but not surprised.
Taken so long to come to a decision that it looked like they were trying to avoid docking any more points!

This is jaw droppingly incompetent from the EFL. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever conceived of any possible outcome that did not involve the loss of some points. Bl00dy hell, but they might even beat Doncaster in the rearranged fixture. How is this in any way a credible outcome. I had imagined, most likely, some points deducted (at least six) but worse case no points lost but the opponents handed the three points.
This is a charter for any team that wants due to injury or suspension to simply not turn up. That this is the 'sanction' for the utterly disgraceful way Bolton unilaterally called off the Donny fixture leaves me speechless, utterly flabbergasted.
A new low for the EFL in a season that already has seen some mighty lows.

Pathetic! You can bet that if another club fails to fulfill a fixture then EFL will come up with a more fitting punishment.
Would have liked to have been a fly on the wall to hear the discussions about this.
