Well having been off work for three weeks, neglected to update this thread with the latest Salopcast content. And what a festive period its been with a couple wins in the lead up, two disappointing results and then a good draw at Bristol City in the Cup. EP25 now live What a dull old week. One loss one draw (just about) and town seem to have gone backwards. This week we are joined by Ex professional footballer (Hartlpool and Torquay) Andy Davies to talk though a tough week on the pitch and the latest on Fey as well as another review of just what RICKETTSBALL is. Also have a cracking Bobby Robson anecdote and a fair amount of frustration as we look at why the crowd were starting to turn on Ricketts and the players Saturday as some folks start to say Ricketts out. Enjoyed listening to EP25.
Pleased that you picked up on the fact that Ricketts has substituted 'contacts' for the work put in by Henshall on player recruitment, and doesn't propose to replace him. Like you, I agree that seems to be a backward step by reducing SR's awareness of potential targets.

Yes, and like you I've also picked up that both Coyne and Henshall departed with very little acknowledgement of their services to the Club. Yet Coyne was with us from July 2013 to May 2019, and Henshall from July 2014 to November 2019. At least Coyne received some support from some of the goalkeepers that were under his charge. "Former Town loan star Dean Henderson, who worked under Coyne when he was goalkeeping coach, commented on social media that letting Coyne leave was a ‘big mistake’, while Jayson Leutwiler, Craig MacGillivray and Steve Arnold also posted messages of support". All we got from SR re Henshall was - “Adam’s left, he’s gone to a new club and we wish him well.” Henshall's role at Town entailed the organisation of the club’s scouting network, as well as overseeing the player identification process for new signings. Henshall, a follower of Shrewsbury while growing up, was also at the forefront of Shrewsbury’s pre and post-match video analysis, for which he would gather clips and information on opposition players. Ricketts was the fourth permanent manager Henshall worked under at Shrewsbury after Micky Mellon, Paul Hurst and John Askey. He played a key role in a number of the club’s successful signings, particularly in the loan market, over the years. He was involved in moves for the likes of Daniel James, Dean Henderson, Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris and more recently the loan deal for Stoke’s Tyrese Campbell. Henshall provided player recommendations to management and dealt directly with agents and scouts. It is also said Henshall excelled in the analysis side. He completed an analysis internship at Leicester’s academy while at university in Loughborough. (Shropshire Star) And yet SR doesn't want to replace him! |

What a poor week in the league, as we cover two different losses but ultimately losses at the end of the day as town go 7 without a win in the league and start to kiss a shot at the playoffs bye bye. We have words for a lame performance at the Gills and wasteful one at Dale. More on the Liverpool disrespect, the end of the transfer window where we missed out on our three main targets and a look ahead to a boarderline must win game vs the improving MK Dons next week.

One of the all time bad refereeing performances at the New Meadow combined with a good but divey Oxford team to cheat town out of a point or more OR was Vela just ever so silly.... we try and unpack a mad game but one which for the season season in a town throw a 2-1 home lead away vs Oxford to lose 3-2.

With no live football to cover, Salopcast have been working with the club to unearth some of the best and most memorable games in the Shrewsbury Town VHS and DVD library to bring to fans during the shut down. The club have so far brought us two crackers from the Paul Hurst Season and then this Sunday the full match of the Marine 11-2 game, the footage of which was lost to fans over the last 20 years. To accompany each of the classics coming back each SUnday, Salopcast will be doing an accompanying podcast looking back not just at the game, but the team, the season, the year and anything else we can dredge up from the past. Out first Salopcast Time Machine looks at the goal fest, Ray Woods Hair, Dean Spinks Legs, Dave Waltons distribution, how much football as changed and loads more as well... Well, this one was a fun look back at an away classic as town play well enough and then go goal crazy against a Northampton team that IMPLODE. Mark Wright puts on a clinic. Terry Gornell and Marvin Morgan work their bolocks off and the Jacobson scores goal of the day running from half way. We also talk STFC ASFC, KCF, the fun fair, Northamptons front two who are of note, steve and dunnys magic commentry and James Hurst great debut and what could of been. Also words on boos for Jake Robinson and laughs at Steve Cross's "lard" comments about Rene Howe!!!!
