MM was Assistant Manager at Barnsley from Dec 2012 to March 2014. Barnsley were in the Championship, so he has had higher league experience, albeit not in Division 1. on that basis Ronaldo is an international manager because he has played in world cup finals and tells all his team mates what to do

Someone did post that Jackett lives in Hertfordshire so not very attractive for him. I could see him moving on as soon as a Championship post down south became available. Dave Jones in Bridgnorth however looks a better bet Not sure why people are so bothered if a manager is here for a little while and leaves to go to a better job? That would mean he'd done a good job here and if he was wanted by a bigger club? Or would you rather we had someone in charge that no-one else ever wanted, i.e. they were doing a bad job?

When did Jackett get a club like ours into the Championship? He got Millwall there just but they're a bigger club than Town with twice our attendance. He "succeeded" at Wolves but they had millions to throw at it. All of Jackett's clubs as manager are much bigger than us, would he want to stoop this low? I cant see it and even if he would, I don't think he's proven at a club like ours. Same with Holloway, a great season getting Blackpool into the top flight but that was before their recent decline and these days he's a pundit for Sky. Could we really tempt him from that comfort to come here? I very much doubt it, he's too comfy and will want a bigger club with more money with his profile. Evans? Did very well with Crawley and getting Rotherham into the Championship but their attendances are much better than ours and they haven't fallen apart since they parted company with him. He didn't manage too well with Leeds but they have been a bit of a poisoned chalice. Having been with two bigger clubs since Crawley, would he really find Town an attractive draw? Coventry have at least got a top flight history but what have we got that he would want? Some of us tend to think our club is bigger than it actually is, most of this seasons money will have been spent and I cant see any of them coming here for a tough first season fighting relegation. Some of us need to get real. You missed out Swansea from your list of Jackett's past jobs. He got them up from division 2 and stabilised them in the next league and then left when it was time. He actually started the swansea success story which was then added to by Martinez. Town would be a much more attractive job than Coventry! They may have some history, but then they've got basketcase owners who have destroyed them through under investment, lost ownership of their own ground, training ground and now academy is on the way too oh and they're in heavy debt.

Would not be impressed if it is Bentley - can see no ambition in that at all.

Experience of doing it on a shoestring. Kind of sums us up really. Now Mellon has gone the wallet is firmly closed again.

There are some positive comments about Bentley on this thread, what surprises me therefore is how come a championship/league 1 club have not already snaffled him up?
He's been at Morecambe as manager now for over 5 years so his management abilities are not in question, I'm just wondering if he's turned down bigger offers in the past or is he just happy to be where he is?

Morecambe 0 Carlisle 3 Bentley, I don't think so. You don't judge a manager on one bad result. Carlisle have yet to lose in the league this season. Not saying that I want him mind.

Rumour on the Morecambe Fans Forum that we've asked if we can speak to Bentley. His price has come down from 40/1 to odds on so I suggest that something is going on here. RW puts a million quid on him at 40-1... appoints him... Town financially secure... then replace him in a years time with somebody who is actually decent. Morecambe lost 0-3 to Carlisle on Saturday... "Bentley out!"

This appointment would just scream 'we're looking ahead to making a real challenge for next season's League Two play-off places'.
Need an appointment that gives us a bit of hope and a bit of a lift, because we're in the ****ing more, and mistake.

I don't know anything about betting so would appreciate some advice. Once RW has made his decision on the chosen one what is there to stop him advising a friend or one of us of his choice before making it official so that a big bet could be put on or at least enough so it didn't look suspicious. Maybe share the information around a few friends.

Not illegal, but bookies would refuse a decent sized bet.

I actually feel sorry for Bentley and the Morecombe fans because this ridiculous speculation of him coming to us would surely of affected their performance yesterday.

I feel sorry for Bentley because he sounds like a man who has come to the end of the road there and is looking for a way out.

Anyone know why he didn't get the Tranmere job. He apparently lives near the ground and appeared nailed on to get it.

Not really. I just guessed that MM was their first choice what with the Palios-MM connection.I'm assuming they approached us and Mickey was asked whether he fancied it or not. I don't think this was a quick thing I reckon negotiations have been ongoing for the last week or so. I expect club to announce an appointment in next few days. Certainly before Walsall but as I say I'm just surmising

I feel sorry for Bentley because he sounds like a man who has come to the end of the road there and is looking for a way out. He's had a long time at Morecambe, first as a player and then as manager. Fourteen years in total, last 5 as manager. In today's game that's one heck of a long time to be at one club. It does surprise me why another league 1/league 2 club has not already snaffled him up? Is he just too settled and therefore happy and content to remain just where he is? Perhaps that's why potential opportunities have passed him by?

With talk of investment in Morecambe coming then hopefully Bentley can benefit from that.
He will then have the chance to prove himself in league 2 with a higher budget. League 1 certainly isn't the place for him to that right now. Good luck to him and Morecambe. With the extra funding some success may come there way at last.

So according to Brian Caldwell (as reported in the Shropshire Star) we have been deluged with applications for the vacant managerial position. We've received no less than 50 applications. Now I challenge you to come up with 50 managers (and I'm struggling) who may have applied for the job. I accept some won't be suitable, but if you can come up with those possible 50 applicants, now try and rate them in order. Now where would you stick Jim Bentley? Honestly, he doesn't even make my top 20.

Dosent mean all 50 are managers you can add 10 on to that for chancers who just want a letter back from the club saying there football manager game experience isn't enough. Remember Ant applied once!

Remember Ant applied once! I assume he did not get the job as Roland was not keen on Dec as his number 2?

NOT ONE PERSON HAS SUGGESTED BENTLEY - If RW goes down this route it would be a statement of intent that we are not serious about becoming a L1 side and will hire any passer by.

I feel sorry for a lot of people on this board........deluded in thinking some so called big name managers are the best option. Men who have served other clubs and just move from club to club in the rat race merry go round of management. Here you have an opportunity to throw your weight behind a young up and coming manager and you do nothing but dismiss him with throw away comments!! Look at Lee Johnson now at Bristol City! Bang average at Oldham and Barnsley took a chance..... a game away from the sack at Barnsley and 3 months later appointed Bristol City manager!! Oh ye of little faith! You would actually think there was a massive difference between League 1 and 2? There ain't!!
