Let's be realistic. I doubt anyone of Ainsworth's calibre or reputation is going to agree to come here until there is clarity on future ownership/investment in the club.

From what I gather whatever the consensus among fans is, there's people that make it their mission to go against it. I'm all for a broad church for opinions but most of the time it just created endless back biting. I don't know if it's 'oppositional defiant disorder' in action. As a father of an ADHD child I'm used to seeing that a lot. I vividly remember people threatening to cancel their season tickets because a couple of games were being brought forward in the winter because of the energy crisis a couple of years back. And we were doing well then! But when we're literally at our lowest ebb in recent memory, the same people are calling out fellow fans for being critical! You couldn't write it. Ok I'll play along , let's sack Micky Moore tonight , but who shall we sack tomorrow ? , I see they are already targeting JayneB and Tom Ware on other social media sites , maybe we could then axe parish if we lose on Tuesday 🪓🪓🪓, As I mentioned last week , the general consensus is we want Gareth Ainsworth , it took him 6 seasons to take Wycombe out of league 2 including avoiding relegation to the conference on goal difference one season Sorry but we don't have patience like that with our fans ricketts had a better start in league 1 than Gareth had in league 2 and yet his name is mud amongst most fans Simpson was also better in 2 Askey , Mellon , none of them allowed a long term our expectations are just unrealistic at times , I'm never thanked for being realistic Couldn't agree with this more. Ricketts had one of the hardest jobs manageing through Covid and gave us some memerable cup games v Wolves and Liverpool. Askey i think wasn't ever going to work but nobody will know Mellon left before being pushed but should always be held in high regard for the League 2 promotion after building 80% of that squad.

No doubt Simpson did well with the England youth setup but it’s fair to say he’s proven to be unable to cut it at League One level. IIRC Jackson wasn’t sacked as manager, he just returned to his number 2 position under Mellon the following season after our relegation from League One, and was collateral after Mellon (who I was a big fan of) completely lost the plot towards the end of his tenure. I presume you're referring to Simpson's managerial career overall as opposed to when he was here as it was generally considered a failure not getting that squad of players (especially with Grant Holt) into League One. Another reason why it's not much use comparing manager records or win rates. Simpson managed us in L2 where we were a big fish in an era the club was on a stronger financial footing than it is now.

Ainsworth is the only one I can see being appointed who will have universal support, those three names touted earlier fill me with dread Have to agree with that statement I agree about Ainsworth or someone with a similar record. I cannot believe we would sack Paul Hurst simply to replace him with any of the other names mentioned. The odds were probably against Hurst from the beginning but I believed he was the man to beat those odds and keep us up. I also cannot believe (if true) that Roland would tell supporters on the bus to expect good news this week only for it to turn out to be a damp squib appointment. The club is in turmoil at the moment due to the actions of two former employees and it has to be said, the failure of RW to unearth and stop the ruinous actions that were taking place on his watch. All credit for what he has done since but we are now suffering the inevitable knock-on effects. A lot is riding on the new managerial appointment but there is much more on the new ownership issue. As fans, we can only wait and hope. We shall have to wait and see.

If it is Ainsworth then he does seem to be into his music. I would not be aversed to him picking the pre match set list.
Wikipedia says he is a practicing Catholic so he could be very helpful in putting a word in upstairs. 😇

If it is him I hope he does not come as a pair with the old Wycombe owner. I was hoping our new owner would have a bit of money to spend.

There is a video doing the rounds on Facebook of him saying just that so plenty of fans will have seen it.

I see that the Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield is being heavily linked with the vacant Coventry City position. If that happened who do you think Wycombe would want back as Manager. Could that possibility be the cause of current delay in naming towns new manager.

Conspiracy theory: Matt Bloomfield potentially going to Coventry has scuppered us getting Ainsworth as they’ve called him up sussing him out to see if he’d like to go back. Discuss!

Seems like a really knowledgeable guy. There’s a couple of podcasts with him based around psychology of the game. Would be typical salop to get ainsworth in but not let him bring his assistant with him and doing it on the cheap. Has experience as head of youth development and managing Wycombe’s centre of excellence so ticks a few extra boxes.

Hopefully it’s just my natural ingrained Shrewsbury pessimism but with the game this evening, I really thought they would have announced it earlier on today if it was going to happen…!
Shropshire star made it sound like it was a done deal.

A message for the brave few going this evening….. any chance you can keep an eye on the main stand and check if there is a known “face” not currently connected to the club sat next to RW, and let us know if there is! Cheers.

A few years ago Roland and Mal Starkey came and sat in the away end. Presumably relations have now improved ? Maybe been some changes at Walsall since then.

Of course, in times gone by Walsall were the real (even only) enemy! We hardly ever played Wrexham and the rest of them! Oh, of course, we still don't!

Walsall had a great supporters bar with decent food , i.e. chips with everything. Always found the stewards on the door very accommodating. Theres every chance we won’t be playing Wrexham or Walsall next season . The swings and roundabouts of football 😉

The club are going to have to stop relying on volunteers at some point though. We're meant to be a professional club, not a non-league side.
