It is possible to knock a team together with ' bargain buys' and loans....and it will be the same next season....and I look forward to seeing what Hurst comes up with..... there's plenty out there👍 I agree. As you mentioned before...if we are fitter than the opposition we will always have a chance.

If it were that simple, then every team would seek to be the fittest in the league. We were lacking in fitness this season. You could argue we have been for the last few seasons. If we were fitter, we would have been safe before the penultimate game. Marginal gains etc 👍 make every aspect 1% better and suddenly we are a winning team

We haven't been proper fit since Hurst was here last time.....that's why we narrowed the pitch, and we still couldn't cope with it,we will see next season,if fitness counts, and makes a difference,in a very strong league

Also, recruitment has got to be spot on,no room for to many errors here Mickey, otherwise we are in the s**t ....I say Mickey, because we're paying him a fair wad,to get it bloody right, and if he doesn't.......off you go sonny

If fitness is all we have to offer for next season, it’s going to be another struggle.

If a team of very fit players, played against a team of skilful individuals, but not fit.....who would win the game?

I agree. As you mentioned before...if we are fitter than the opposition we will always have a chance. If it were that simple, then every team would seek to be the fittest in the league. The other thing you can get from a fitness regime together is team spirit, plus knowing exactly what you can expect from other team members. For example, if Jack Price is in you are not going to get olympic running, but you are going to get a footballing brain and class, the others will know that from pre season.
Hursty also seems to have hinted that the well paid ones and the new poundland signings didn't quite fit together, after a hard going pre season together there should be a good level of camaraderie within the team.

That's why the players have to buy into the fitness regime. It's ok for the training staff organising a timetable, but if the players only give 95%, (and ooze to notice?), it won't work. That's why recruitment of players with the right temperament is vital.

Will people be happy with bargains from lower leagues etc given sobowale Mata and the other lad from Ireland all been said what a waste? I can only speak for myself but yes I'd be fine with it. There are plenty of players in non league/Irish/Scottish leagues who go on to have good careers at our level, the challenge is spotting ones who can make the step up. No manager/DOF/scout gets them all right, it's fair to say this season has been poor, lets hope the scouting is more successful next season. I don't have an issue with it, as there are some hidden diamonds but I think there are two points Getting the right balance in a squad between players from the leagues and league 1 ready players And giving them the support they need to manage the transition and not expecting them to hit the ground running and getting overwhelmed.

Surely Marquis, released by Bristol Rovers fits the PH mould of striker but maybe too expensive?
Would be looking to try and snag Matt Macey, GK released by Pompey to replace Marosi who is almost certainly on his way out.

Of course, I've seen it before,in the 80s..... different era I know....but same thing..... fitness!!!!....we were very fit as a team, and well organised and drilled..and hopefully Hurst will do the same thing next season👍👍 You are right about fitness. I was told many years ago that fitness plays a big part in winning football matches . When players start to make mistakes as the game progresses it’s usually because their fitness levels are poor and as a consequence they struggle to compete and loose concentration . That half a yard which they could make easily earlier on in a game either as a defender or forward isn’t there and so players struggle to get to the ball or even close down space . As well as being fantastic players the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid were also tremendously fit which tends to go unnoticed because they made the game look so simple . So, get us really fit for next season and I think we will improve greatly . Of course it always helps if we have decent players to begin with . I can see the sunlit uplands of the play offs already 😉👍

I maybe "old school" but I was told yrs and yrs ago, that,if you want to play or be a footballer.....don't bother running out onto the pitch,if your not fit, especially if your playing in midfield.and looking at the season just gone,we were way short, and Hurst noticed it straight away, and said it to the press as well.so next season I'm hoping for a vast improvement in fitness levels, and at least then we can compete for ALL the game

Sure that someone has mentioned Callum Burton as a possible keeper but I can't find it!
Anyway, yep he's been released by Plymouth but has a 5 page thank you thread on PASOTI,seems to have been a bit of a legend down there, even though he didn't have that many starts. Possible incoming to replace Marosi when he inevitably leaves us

Bennett, Price and Hinchy (family in Telford) all presumably signed because of links to the area and I'm sure there are more

If Udoh does go, maybe Freddie Ladapo incoming? Played for PH here on loan last time round. Was on loan at Charlton last season.
