He’s 22 years old and effectively third choice at Bristol Rovers if he stayed there. It’s an educated gamble and I suspect we are competing with the ‘better’ League Two sides for that kind of signing.
Let’s hope he kicks on here in a way he obviously hasn’t quite managed there at League One level.

Think he played over 25 games last season...not bad for a "third cholce" right back! ....and if he is half as good as our "third choice" left back from Port Vale that will do for me.

Could someone please tell me who the so called "better" teams are in our division when not one game has been played yet.

Could someone please tell me who the so called "better" teams are in our division when not one game has been played yet. Shrewswolf was referring to better L2 teams (not L1) on the premise that Hoole hadn’t quite cut it in L1. It would make sense that that sort of team would be interested as there is always competition for players between the ‘poorer’ teams in one league and the aspirational teams in the league below, but it’s all about getting the best fit with teammates, tactics etc so it might well work out for him here, regardless of what happened at Rovers. Good luck and welcome (if he signs).

Yes please......but if you like Burton that much....go and support em..... it's not far🤷🤷 You can even have some half time entertainment counting the fans - it shouldn’t take long.

Could someone please tell me who the so called "better" teams are in our division when not one game has been played yet. It's usually based around History (Wrexham do not have one)...Crowds...perceived budget...away support...Stadium size and so on...but on the first day of the season before kick off we are all equal. ....and Hurst has a habit of producing gold from iron....and turning loans into future stars.

Well, 25 games out of 46 is absolutely second choice last season, and they’ve signed a new right back whilst retaining the one that kept this guy out of the team. I’d hazard a guess that makes it very likely he’d be third choice, and will more than play a part in him rejecting a new deal there and choosing us.

The better teams on paper are surely the ones with the biggest budgets, who can therefore attract the best players. Our budget is probably bottom two which is why we’re odds on for relegation.

Better funded clubs are not imo necessarily the best teams. Some clubs have been paying hugely for players and achieving nothing. Others spending little in comparison and being more successful. So no guarantee money gets success however crikey it really can help

I remember it well...the late 70s early 80s.... Shrewsbury got promoted into the big boys league....we were gonna get hammered every game, with a small budget, and small squad.....never happened did it.....same as this season, some big teams in it,but if your fit and organised, like Shrewsbury were in the early 80s.... you'll get by ok👍

Now we will get zilch from games like Birmingham away etc.

( im guessing it was circa 1980 ). thats like £75K today its hard to believe this actually happened

The third choice right back, could be Rovers fans being bitter. I guess we will see there.
Seems that there is money available (even a little) to pay in this one and the Savin Transfer.

I'm not bothered about the difference between today and back then.....if your team is very fit and organised, you'll give any team a game on the day.. whether it be Birmingham or Huddersfield or Bolton👍

The loan of a Man Utd keeper has been a rumour that's dragged on for what feels like months. No smoke without fire however.

I think there is talk of another keeper coming in on loan from a 'Bigger Fish' team, It seems Savin could be keeping the bench warm this season coming and perhaps inheriting no.1 the following season.

Defenders are ten a penny at our level, how we boost our attacking and creative options is the big question.
I'm feeling very underwhelmed with our Summer dealings so far.

Just waiting for it. Old Noto will be along soon bigging him up as their biggest signing of the summer. An ex Town player, hopefully will be as good as the last few we let them have 🙂

I agree about defenders cbs always easy and cheap despite our last manager spending a fortune on them Next easiest to resource at our level are wingers and obviously that means a LB & RB too , wing backs that can both attack And defend are almost non existent , last decent one we had was Joe Jacobson I think big tall midfielders are incredibly hard to find ,midfield midgets are easy to attract but then we can't send the ball long as there is no one to challenge for them , and of course goalscorers are a premium and something we can never afford to buy in , we need to drop lucky there

Tend to agree on the defenders at this level as well, although it does depend how you want to play and the formation etc.
Finding decent forwards and creative players does seem to be the bigger issue for most teams. O'Reilly, Biggins and Lloyd could be good finds though.

Bit depressed by this,I mentioned on Page 6 of this thread,in early May,that he had been released by Plymouth. I had additional information from a friend of a friend of my son's who had known Callum from his schooldays. Callum had indicated that he would like to return to Shropshire if he could. Never thought he would sign for Wrexham but it's a short career and if someone's prepared to pay you the money then you're going to take it

And to likely sit on the bench,
I did wonder whether Burton would reappear here, but it seems a bit Jack Price alike.
I'll wait and see who the 'other keeper' that's brought in and how well they and Savin perform but I'm not worried.

Local lad, yes, but if we had signed a random keeper of his age with his record, this board would be in melt down, blaming the budget etc. 103 games, 13 clubs. we might as well kept Burgoyne 2013–2017 Shrewsbury Town 1 2013 → Market Drayton Town (loan) 2013 → Workington (loan) 1 2014–2015 → Nuneaton Town (loan) 3 2015 → Southport (loan) 4 2016 → Nuneaton Town (loan) 6 2017 → A.F.C. Telford United (loan) 11 2017–2019 Hull City 0 2017 → Salford City (loan) 3 2018–2019 → Chesterfield (loan) 19 2019–2021 Cambridge United 37 2021–2024 Plymouth Argyle 18 2024– Wrexham 0 (0)
