The very first post on this thread looks to be the first signing. It's just taken 6 weeks and 11 pages of posts! As underwhelming as I was expecting really but nice to get someone in I spose. He's a good age with league experience but a very limited goal return for a striker. If Darrell Clarke can only get him to score in a single league game all season it doesn't bode well. But he did play under Hurst for Grimsby in 2023 and probably had his best spell of his career - 5 goals and 4 assists in half a season, and Hurst wanted him back. So let's hope Hurst knows how to get through best out of him He will be cheap I'm sure which is probably the primary factor in any signings Sounds like a typical PH signing - has the potential and he's at the age where he's not going to be much of a risk in that a) he's got FL experience and b) young enough to be a re-saleable asset if he progresses forward with us. Fact he's played for PH at Grimsby with arguably his best spell in football bodes well. Elsewhere, looks like Stephen Humphrys has been released by Wigan and at 26yrs could be a decent shout? I think we have to realise our budget this year is going to be tiny. We won’t be in the market for players like Humphrys. Way out of our league.

He has been released along with others including captain Ben Amos because Wigan can’t offer to extend his contract. In his farewell to the fans he forecasts worrying times under the new ownership saying that they expect the manager to build a side around their promising youth players. It appears that it is not just us that is feeling the pinch but I guess we knew that anyway.

Our best players all leaving on frees, and underwhelming signings coming in by the looks. Will be an absolute miracle if we stay up this year.

League two is calling. All your better players are leaving. No money, no fans, no hope.

The last time they were feeling the pinch they matched us all season, and spent enough to pip us to promotion. 😏

Dunkley has been good for us during his time with us, but was slowing down and was very average last season and highly paid. One of our best players was Benning who has signed. We needed a clear out to level the squad up, it would be nice to do it on a bigger budget, but that's life. Fancy a holiday in Gibraltar this summer? Sounds like the Welsh team has just had one.😁

We don't usually struggle to find decent CB's. Winfield, Mkandwire, El-Ebd, McGivern, Gerrard, Whitbread, Waterfall...just some of the centre halves we've had in L1 and boy were they bad. Yes I know I'm being selective and we've had some good centre halves too, but it amazes me how casual some people are in losing our best central defender, the same goes for Marosi too. I find it interesting people talking about Dunklely slowing down and not being agile enough which may be true to some extent but currently we would be looking at Arron Pierre as our first choice centre half. Agile is not a word I'd use for him

Will certainly need some more firepower if we are looking at Feeney and Pierre as our first choice centre back pairing this season.

I'm surprised some fans still haven't cottoned onto this. We stayed up narrowly last season, our better players have gone/are going, our budget is being cut - for those that were supporting us when Roland took over, it's a case of deja vu and trying to get us in a better financial position is the sole focus. I know this sounds very pessimistic, my only slight bit of hope is we at least have an experienced manager in charge and might be able to find some gems on the cheap.

He’s a LB by trade, and did a decent job on the left side of a three at the back, but I don’t think he’s physical enough to be playing in a CB pairing.

24, high work rate, just the sort of player Hurst likes and gets the most out of.
We all know next season will be tough but we will be able to get behind a side and manager who will demand 100% every game. As a club we have been through these periods before, time for everyone to come together and earn their stripes.... sorry had to get that one in!

Lloyd's goalscoring record is abysmal, but I quite like the signing. Free, young, League 1 experience, worked with Hurst before. He was also linked with Huddersfield a few days ago so must have something about him.

The way I read it is that Lloyd is not an out and out centre forward. Sounds like he operates better wide in a forward 3, or maybe as a 10. That's a formation Hurst likes so would be a decent signing.

We'll probably break our transfer fee record this summer. And you're losing players to Chesterfield, the furlough fiddlers. The chimes of impending doom can be heard all over salop.

You know it, I know it.

I suppose the chimes don't ring hollow and tinny like they do in your festering s**thole. Must be nice for the first time in your life actually seeing your club having to compete against decent sized opposition rather than chartering flights to Maidstone.

That's a formation Hurst likes so would be a decent signing. Wide right in a 3 is where Bloxham usually plays, so if you’re right, perhaps Lloyd is being signed as backup/competition rather than expecting to start.

Gav Cowan made an interesting point in one of the recent ITS podcasts that he thinks that’s why MM has been brought in - due to his experience of running Cheltenham on an absolute shoestring and getting them to survive in league 1. Hardly success but the existence of the club supersedes success right now. It’s going to be tough season no doubt, but if we liked anything else, we wouldn’t support the club!

Mods - do we need another thread being taken OT with more cross border willy waving. Dont we have a Wrexham thread already where that takes place, wouldnt it be better to keep it all on one thread and keep this one for the intended discussion
