It’s frustrating as he’s exactly the type of player we need and will excite the fans being a local lad but we’ll be in a relegation battle and no use to us if he’s injured for 7 months of the season.

One disaster the new management have to avoid is the AOB mess. That puts the Meta and Price situation into perspective.

Am I the only one concerned we haven’t yet brought anyone in. Hurst usually likes to start pre season early so guessing he’d want majority of the squad in place by end of this month

Not disappointed, last season was not his best.

His form did drop off, but he was still our best centre back by a country mile. Will be difficult to replace.

Simultaneously a high earner who was getting on and form declining off the books, but also our best centre back and less importantly but still relevant one of the few players we have who I actually like. Shame

Can’t blame Chey, he’s 32 and just been offered a 3 year deal, probably on similar money.

I hope we are looking at young , quicker, more agile defenders next season, we're going to need them.
Out of interest how many first team players do we have left?

Good luck to Chey at Chesterfield, I wish him well. His farewell message more or less diplomatically says that he loved his first season and found last season s**t.

He made the odd mistake but largely was our best centre half and personally I think he could still do a job in L1 so he's a good signing for them. I know he was on a very good wage but I'd put him in the category of he's been worth it (like Marosi) and I suspect we will notice the difference in quality next season when his replacement is on about a third of what he was on. You certainly can't blame him though, not many 3 year deals are offered in the 4th division, even less so when you are 32.

Getting better offer in L2 or other reasons for move? Hope latter as otherwise we'll be hoping for free agents to join when window closes.

Really shocked about the negative backlash from Dunkley leaving. We had an option of another year but chose to offer him a contract instead, almost certainly at a much reduced rate. For me it was obvious he was going with the odd chance he might take the wage cut.
We don't usually struggle to find decent CB's. He was a real force when in a back 5 but was dangerously exposed when playing in a back 4. I don't think much of his leadership skills either, many performances were well below par and I rarely seen him blast or encourage a teammate during the game.
I wish him all the best and thank him for all his hard work but I think this works out best for everyone. Feeney, Pierre, with an up and coming CB and a loan will be enough. We also have Nurse who I expect to play CB next season.
Now lets increase Udoh's offer!!!

Dunkley wasn’t the same player last season as he was in his first season, colossal in the air but on the ground he’s massively exposed and too slow for League One now. I was surprised we offered him a deal (obviously on reduced terms, even that we shouldn’t have done), so I’m happy it’s another poor player from last seasons struggles out the door. Need to start getting some through the door now!

Not surprised to see him go, contract length will be the big thing here. Wish him all the best.

Heard he was offered a year here can see why he’s left he’s 32 just been offered 3 year no brainer.

Need to start getting some through the door now! Think he still started the season well. Back 3 suits him winning all the balls in the air and with two more mobile players next to him. But the switch to a back 4 did not suit him at all. By the end of the season he wasn't worth his wage and I'm sure the deal he was offered reflected that, so he was never likely to stay. He could be great in league two though

The very first post on this thread looks to be the first signing. It's just taken 6 weeks and 11 pages of posts!
As underwhelming as I was expecting really but nice to get someone in I spose. He's a good age with league experience but a very limited goal return for a striker. If Darrell Clarke can only get him to score in a single league game all season it doesn't bode well. But he did play under Hurst for Grimsby in 2023 and probably had his best spell of his career - 5 goals and 4 assists in half a season, and Hurst wanted him back. So let's hope Hurst knows how to get through best out of him
He will be cheap I'm sure which is probably the primary factor in any signings

Fact he's played for PH at Grimsby with arguably his best spell in football bodes well. Elsewhere, looks like Stephen Humphrys has been released by Wigan and at 26yrs could be a decent shout?

Interesting one about Dunkley - I can see why he's gone for a 3 year deal somewhere else, but League Two, hmmm.
He is replaceable.
Hope that Lloyd is the first of many coming in.
