Southgate resignation letter. He passed it to Kane who passed it back to Bellingham who passed it sideways to Stones who passed it back to Walker who passed it back to Pickford who booted it long to the FA. Like it.

Carricks not a bad shout. Thoughts on carswell? Same route as Southgate. Not forgetting the other England winning manager Mr Paul Simpson. I'll get me coat Carsley can take his best pal, a certain Mickey Moore to be part of the coaching team! Not my choice but I think Lee Carsley is likely to be the FA’s first choice

I'm not sure how this works, so I'll bow to your greater knowledge, but does that mean it's already decided or could we join the seeded teams by winning our Group B league and getting promoted to Group A before the WC qualification groups are decided? Already decided that the seeded teams are from the current A league. We would enter the World Cup Draw in the second pot if we win our B league "Only 12 teams are awarded top seeds for qualifying, with those being handed to the 12 best teams across the Nations League League A bracket, with the competition beginning in September. After finishing fourth in the previous edition in 2022, England were relegated to League B. In this league, they will compete against the Republic of Ireland, Greece, and Finland. As a result, they are not eligible to be one of the top seeds" Cheers for that.
As for what Pilch said I am in complete agreement. If we smash the WC qualifiers by beating the likes of Latvia, Czechia or Serbia everyone will raise their expectations for the tournament. I would rather we had to fight with teams like Holland, Portugal or Sweden to progress, because that's the level we will need to compete against over the pond in 2026.

Not my choice but I think Lee Carsley is likely to be the FA’s first choice I think that would be a terrible idea. It's not like the succession at Liverpool with Dalglish following on from treble winner Fagan, who in turn had replaced a hugely successful Paisley, who took over after the genius that was Shankly retired.
Southgate did a good job, to a degree, but was never actually successful. To promote one of his assistants would be a retrograde step IMO and would be rewarding what has been, to all intents and purposes, failure.

I have to admit that my posts about the next England manager were a little and I have been amused at the thought of Carsley showing his under 21 medal to players who have won the Champions League, Premier Leagues, various cups and a Bundesliga runner up medal. Also I don’t wish to give any credit to England fans who throw beer over the manager and racially abuse black players who miss penalties. As for Southgate being a failure, how easy it is to forget where we were 8 years ago. If I were a betting man, which I’m not, I would go for Carsley as an interim continuation appointment while the FA wait for Howe to become available.

Let's be honest the next manager is on a hiding to nothing. If he doesn't lead us to at least the quarter finals of the WC he will be considered a failure, even if we were to get beaten by someone like Argentina or Brazil.
I don't think there will be many people queuing up for the job, especially if they are expected to leave their lucrative Premier League jobs to do so.

I don't think we should forget that Luis de la Fuenta has spent the last eleven years managing various national Spanish age groups before his promotion to the senior team. He did not have an outstanding record managing various clubs in Spain but has found his feet in the national team. Also Carsley beat Spain in the final of the Euro U21s last year - so he does know how to win!!

I gather that was in response to my own post; so perhaps credit to the vast majority of England fans who don't throw beer at the manager nor racially abuse anyone who happens to miss a penalty.🙄
And at the end of the day, with a talented squad of players, Southgate hasn't won anything. And so the question is whether someone with a better management record would have been able to see it through and get us over the line. Its time to give someone else a chance.

i suppose its how you measure failure, if not winning a tournament or consistently teams like Germany, Spain and France etc then he has failed what he has done is get us to more Semi finals and finals than any previous manager his Achilles heel is been cautious and that can be seen in many games.

Save slot of bother losing in the qualifiers, let's hope for France or Spain 😉 In Reality playing the finals in USA with temperatures equal to Qatar's on small poorly laid pitches and lots of Americans isn't really appealing to many

I saw speculation about his replacement and thought it was pretty rude seeing as he was still manager and then discovered he wasnt lol, cant blame him, he has nothing else to prove really and will now get a nice cushy premier job when hes ready for a lot more money and nice pay off when the fans start moaning , hes got it made for life
