I think we did well second half, a great effort considering we were down to ten and some pride restored. And mores the point, thankfully other results have gone our way (big time). Could have been an awful lot worse tonight all things considered. As daft as it sounds after a 3 nil loss at home, rather upbeat. Fingers crossed we can keep 11 on the field come Saturday and we can get back on track. It is a shame that the players could not keep there heads after going behind as this Exeter team were there for the taking and made many mistakes when put under any sort of pressure. I think we would have won comfortably tonight without the sending off. Some positives to take but defo one to forget and onto another massive game.

I thought Exeter were a decent side who passed the ball nicely so as soon as the red card happened it was game over. But their gamesmanship was on par as anything we did under Cotterill. The signs were there with foul by Sraha (which was a foul) just before the red card when their players went running to ref. As for us, obviously difficult to criticise too much when we are down to 10 after 5 mins but we are a poor footballing side. Regardless of what league we are in, a big change is needed in terms of style of play. Yes, they looked comfortable on the ball and their passing and movement were excellent. We'll never know what sort of game we would have given them with 11 on the field, but their passing accuracy stats compared with ours suggest a much better footballing side than we have at our disposal. Oh yes...and tricky wingers as well. It's been a while since Town had anyone like that. 2018 maybe?! Let's hope whoever is recruiting in the summer can unearth some gems like that.

Excellent night of results for us (apart from our own of course). Quite relieved at that set, 1 game closer to the end of this dismal season.
But what an opportunity missed to pull further away. I guess PH is learning quite a lot about this team, and just what a rebuilding job he has this coming summer.

Good use of the loan system by Exeter - Woods, Eisa, Rankine, Sinisalo.

Not sure Exeter are as good as people think, on the odd occasions we were able to press them we forced mistakes, just such a shame that we could seldom do that after the red card. We were never going to win after that point, our poor fitness and woeful squad depth hinders us with 11 on the pitch let alone 10.
Referee and his bald headed West Stand assistant were truly woeful and seemed to relish antagonising our players and us fans in the first half. I hope to never see them again.
We go again on Saturday.
Also - good to see some other eye catching results, in both league one and two.

Interesting to read that the ref has done Exeter over twice leading to an apology to the club. Maybe today was a continuation of his apology.

Good use of the loan system by Exeter - Woods, Eisa, Rankine, Sinisalo. Towns loan input today: Hinchy coming off the bench when the game was lost. Not a single other loan player in the squad

I fear for satday as well tbh.......those are the sort of games we do struggle in.agree with a lot of the posters..... we're a very poor team, and Hurst probably knew it,but thought he could just get by this season, and rebuild for next ......it certainly needs rebuilding......players are poor, bar a few

Ah well. Ryan Woods doesn't half run in a funny way - like he has a stick up his arse; never noticed before. He may do that - but I was watching him closely - he ran their midfield with short passes.

Move onto the next one after tonight really. Not much else to say.
Luckily the results around town have very much gone in favour, so doesn't have to an utterly s**te night.
Looking at some other results tonight - Lincoln have gone into overdrive, 6-0 tonight off the back of a 5-1 win at Barnsley. Haven't lost a match since New Years day.
See Ogbeta is enjoying himself back in league one again too. Thumping goal and a lovely assist in Bolton's win. He will have some admirers this summer.
And cant completely expect Carlisle to roll over on Saturday. Two 3-2 losses in last few days show that they might be more or less down, but they haven't given up yet.

Putting the decisions aside, we were absolutely dreadful in the first half. I've seen lots of Town sides go down to ten men in the first half but never seen one go down with such a whimper.

The ref and bald lino were awful and so were town. The sending off had an impact but woods ran the midfield and they were miles better with there ball retention and distribution. There 26 lacked pace but we did not cause him enough problems and there keeper had hardly anything to do,we also conceded three soft goals.

Not difficult when it's attack v defence and you're playing deep enough not to be pressed. Woods is far from the player he was and still looks like he's carrying too much weight (though nowhere near as much as Sweeney!).

That's 10 home defeats now - just want this miserable season over with us just about above the line.
PH clearly has a massive rebuilding exercise on his hands. Let's hope that MM and his sidekick Ware are part of the clearout.
We probably need 6/7 points from our last 4 home games. Can't see us getting much from our 4 remaining away games.

I did think yellow at the time , maybe red but a harsh one , now I've seen the video I think play on would have been the correct decision , ref lost us the game 5 mins in , that takes some doing Take a look at the Exeter forum pre match and their comments re referee and āshould never be allowed to referee Exeter game again ā !! He certainly owed them a couple and made up for it this evening!!

Obviously one of those games where everything went pear-shaped very quickly. Irrespective of the quality of the referee's decisions I thought we were poor when we went down to ten men - we dropped very deep and did not put any pressure on Woods who just bossed the game in the first half from then on. Our team has totally lost confidence at home - I must say I thought Hurst would do better even given the obvious deficiencies of the squad he inherited. We desperately need the players to turn up on Saturday and show some of the quality and fight we have seen from them in the three recent away victories.

I thought Tulloch and Idowu both looked like they were playing at least two divisions too high in that second half. OāBrien must be nailed on to take Shipleyās spot on Saturday.

First time I've left a game before half time but it's boring watching a game of attack v defence played in one half and it occurred to me I had better things to be doing once that 3rd goal went in.
I don't think it should have been a red card and it certainly ruined the game. Ref looked a bit unsighted so I suspect Woods' tears swung the decision. See, if football had a sin bin system matches wouldn't be ruined so easily, but apparently it's too complicated for simple football brains to understand, so there we are.
The ref and his assistant went on to be incompetent, like so many before them, and ...... well, it was all just pointless from a Salop perspective.
I'd question Hurst's decision not to rotate the squad a bit more than just bringing in Perry. He commented on fitness levels not being great but left the same players out there 3 days later. It was noticeable that the front players were incapable of closing Exeter down as soon as we went down to 10, leaving Woods in so much space he could play like it was a training exercise.
Oh well, Carlisle next and then we're almost done with this dreadful season. I'll be glad when it's over.

At least we didnāt capitulate in second half as I feared but I think it suited both teams to leave it at three and save energy for Saturday. Oh for someone like Woods to run our midfield- even overweight he was miles too good for us.
Iduwu and Tulloch had 45 mins to impress and both failed, I thought at least they might have a turn of pace, but no.
One of the strangest games Iāve ever seen in that a complete non-event after 6 mins.

Another terrible ref ruining league one football.
That being said even with ten men that was absolutely pathetic in the first half. I donāt mind losing games and expected it after we went down to ten men but we didnāt have a single shot until AoB in the second half that I can recall. Corners continue to be an ongoing issue.
Makes it much harder too when everytime we win the ball back Dunkley or Feeney smack it aimlessly in the air forward. It kept coming back over and over again.
We know what this team is. Weak mentality, lacking leadership and panics at the first sign of anything not going their way. Itās a poor team that needs cleaning out in the summer.
Hurst will have learned a lot about the players tonight and their commitment to the cause.

Well that was a bit of mess. How we are not one of the four worst teams in the division I've no idea. We can't pass the ball, there's no pace in the team, and there's glaring deficiencies in the squad which we failed to rectify for some time. If we go down we've only ourselves to blame and I doubt the division would miss us.

Also as a side note as much as fans rant and rave about Dunkley, where was the leadership tonight on the pitch? The last few games I canāt think of a single time Iāve seen him will a team to victory or organise that backline in a way that spurs everyone on.
Might be a controversial take but for someone who holds the armband I donāt see a lot of leadership. As a captain and a centre back clean sheets and organising the line are his responsibility. Heās not done very well at that this season yet weāll all clap and cheer when he uses his power to head the ball back.
