That was so so good. Just tending to the bruises and grazes all over my body from the goal celebrations. I think we just saw ninety minutes of what we’ve all wanted for years - a Town side on the front foot for most of the game, creating loads of chances, and scoring goals. It was just so nice watching us play proper football with loads of nice link-up play and combinations. I don’t think I have a single negative from today. It was so refreshing after the joyless performances of recent months. Positives: - four at the back (hopefully we never have to watch the 3-5-2 experiment ever again); - Kenneh dropped for three ball-playing central midfielders who ran the game; - Winchester was unbelievable, getting it and popping it off, switching play, flying into 50/50s, where’s he been? what did Taylor do to him? - similar story with Bayliss, really good performance, what did Taylor do to him? - Benning was excellent, bombing forward and playing loads of nice combinations with Shipley and Winchester; - bouncing away end. Stick with that midfield three of Winchester, Bayliss and Perry and we’ll have an enjoyable second half of the season. Winchester has been lost at wing back or lost in a bypassed midfield. The lads a baller. Let him play. He's hard as nails too.

An absolute joy of an away day. So much so that I'm reluctant to even talk tactics or analyse the game in any real depth, but I will make some quick points. It will never not shock me how quickly things can change in football and to echo much of what's already been said, I'm scratching my head asking how even is this the same squad of players? I don't know what it is about four at the back but there just seemed to be absolute clarity in what the players were being asked to do. Feeney looked like he'd been playing there all season. We may have finally found the right position for Bloxham (thank you Morecambe) and if we didn't know it already, Shipley is far more of a creative influence further up the pitch. The bar has been set so low this season that maybe I've lost some perspective but I can categorically say that today was one of my all-time favourite away days and dare I say I felt weirdly emotional about it. Brilliant Salop. Welcome back Paul. That's because it's restored hope. I understand when Hurst left last time for his own personal reasons. But we lost hope. This feels like a restoration of an important family relationship. He's learned his lessons. So have we. We're not better off apart. He's the right fit for us. Gentle speaking, self deprecating, doing the simple things well in what can be a very simple game. Demanding hard work, caring about the pride associated with the shirt and the badge. It's a Salop way of doing things. We'd never get on with a Steve Evans figure. Cotterill sailed close to the wind at times with his attitude. Hurst just gets on with it.

Fantastic first half. Welcome back Hurst. Even from the other end of the ground I could see that was hand ball. On top in first 15 and last 15; they had a good 10 min spell in the middle of the half but overall…. What a difference! from watching it on ifollow, i couldn't nor on the replay Just watched the highlights - I stand by what I said at the game - clear handball.

Well what a day to remember. We scored two good goals in the 2nd half but this game was won in the half-time break. Hurst clearly identified what he wanted from the team and knew how to get it from his players. He didn't just take off the handbrake, he threw it away, he fine tuned the engine and fixed the throttle to the floor. We produced a high octane performance that blew a decent Northampton team away. Relentless attack after attack that could have produced four or five or even six goals. Underperforming players were given a platform to showcase their true talent and they did this to a man.
To achieve this amazing turnaround, Hurst played football as it should be played, with wingers. Not just two but three. He delved into his 2017 box of magic tricks and pulled out Rodman and Junior Brown in the shape of Shipley and Benning. On the right we had Bolton and Whalley represented by Feeny and Bloxham. Ogogu became Winchester.... and so did Perry. Suddenly, our midfielders no longer had to watch the ball fly over their heads. Suddenly, our forwards were no longer chasing long hopeful balls. We simply oozed confidence and allowed talent to do the rest.
Others have said that everyone was Man of the Match and I think that's dead right. However, I think one player deserves a special mention and that's Tom Bloxham. A very promising young player that was ignored all last season. Wisely, the club sent the boy to Morecambe in July and he returned a man. Thank you Morecambe.
The away end was bouncing yesterday. Before ko the chant went up "Paul Hursts Barmy Army", leaving no doubt that he was welcomed back with open arms. Maybe a mixture of hope and relief at the start but at the final whistle the PHBA chant was pure belief and gratitude.
We had to wait patiently as the manager went round each and every player before they came to the away end. Obviously happy but I suspect they were as Stunned as us by the performance they had just put on. The players departed but we were going nowhere until PH came over, chest beating, fist pumping and the crowd loved it. Welcome home Mr Hurst.
When leaving, fans were still singing, "ah, nah, nah Hursty's at the wheel" How true, how perceptive, how very welcome.
Thank you Mr Hurst Thank you Mr Wycherley.

Amazing isn't it? The same players, but played in a different formation to produce a winning result.
It beggars belief that Matt Taylor persisted with his old tactics/formations for so long without having the sense to change something that was clearly not working.

I wonder whether Taylor was allowed to change things by Moore until it was too late. I suspect we will never know. The main thing now is that we've got a manager in who was appointed by Wycherley directly and will be able to call the shots.

I share everyone's relief and joy but the challenge now is can we maintain this and be consistent to get the points we do badly need things are so tight we only need to keep picking up the points and could climb out of danger. What a difference a manager can make who is tactically astute. Let us hope we can bring in some more players to strengthen the squad.

Great away day, first time since Derby away last year we’ve had a full car with everyone buzzing in an amazing together away crowd. (no moaning complaining or arguing)
Feels like a cloud over the club for 3/4 years has passed, can’t wait for next Saturday.
Having mentioned Derby away last season, that’s our next away game so IF we win next week could we sell out with the renewed hope and interest. Would certainly be a great atmosphere with 1800 Salopians (1740 safe standing)

The clearest indication for me that PH is the right fit for Shrewsbury on a day to day management, work and attitude basis is that despite leaving us he seemingly didn't get crossed off Roland's proverbial "Christmas card list".

Remarkable what can be achieved in 48 hours! lets not get too carried away and start setting the bar high again, dont forget they went to London midweek and had probably one of their best results for many seasons, we had a rest, saying that I cant help feeling, had Taylor still been here, Udoh wouldn't have quite been fit, kenneh would have started, 5 at the back, we would have had chances but 0-0 late on they would have sneaked a goal and we would have come on unlucky losers again, I am confident for a win next week , especially if we can bring in a right back and anther attacking wide player its a fantastic start all the same My post was more than a little sceptical. I find it hard to believe that such a radical turnaround could be achieved in the time without a lot of prior planning. Have Hurst/Doig been watching the team and working out where players are best deployed and the formation that best suits them? Had they spoken to players, or simply listened to what Flanagan has been saying? I’m not suggesting anything underhand, just that Taylor’s demise has been imminent for several weeks and potential head coaches had been doing their homework.

Ipswich lost to Maidstone. Maybe they will come calling again. My worry is that Maidstone will draw Blackburn or Wrexham. Ipswich reserves had 38 shots to Maidstone's 2, hit both posts and the crossbar twice, whilst the Maidstone 'keeper was excellent. However, Maidstone's 2 shots resulted in 2 goals! Whoever draws them next will take them to the cleaners. Please let it not be Wrexham!

You worry too much We somehow managed to pepper Wrexham's goal yet still lose, so the FA Cup is of no interest to us now really. I fully expect Monday evening to be Wrexham's cup final and for the league 2 side to be taken to the cleaners.

Udoh miraculously back back and starts 3 weeks into a 6 week lay off, and people still believe what Moore said at the meeting? The bloke wanted out, he must've been talked round, maybe he knows he'll actually see the ball under Hurst. I thought exactly this when I seen Udoh starting 😲

I was wondering if this story about the club waiting for PL clubs to decide when they were going to release youngsters to us was nothing but a smokescreen whilst Taylor played out his last 3 matches. Perhaps PH didn't want the ones we had supposedly lined up?

Watching the youtube highlights...look at all our willing runners! It looks like we had loads of chances, looked like it could have been another game where somehow we don't score.
What a result! Hopefully the players will have a renewed belief in themselves. It's easier to run and run when we have the belief it will be worth it.
I will be bringing my 7yo to the next game, safe in the knowledge there will be no 'f off Taylor' chants.

Maybe he watched kenneh for 2 minutes and realised he shouldn't be anywhere near the starting line up and Anderson anywhere near the squad , I feel for sraha who has been doing ok but I guess 3 into 2 doesn't go , , sraha will become a star im sure but well done to Pierre for arriving as a desperate out of shape back up to becoming 2nd choice CB 👍

Amazing isn't it? The same players, but played in a different formation to produce a winning result. The last away game I attended was at Cheltenham on Boxing Day with my dad, and I said to him yesterday that he wouldn’t believe it’s the same team that we saw at Whaddon Road that could barely play football on that day, new manager bounces can happen but I didn’t expect it to be that quick!

We were discussing new manager "bounce" on the way home from the game. We decided it wasn't "bounce" but "new manager effect". Might seem just a play on words but for me "bounce" is when players are just putting in a bit of extra effort to try to impress the new manager. Saturday there was extra effort but I felt the new manager actually having a plan the players understood and executed was the difference.

I’m keeping grounded and not expecting that level of performance every week, because I really think it was that good.

I mean I knew we were bad obviously, but Saturday was just surreal to watch at times. Especially that 2nd half.

I’d encourage everyone to have a watch of Udoh’s goal at 1:30 if you haven’t already. Look at the way he drops off into a pocket of space to receive the ball as soon as Feeney brings the ball down. He knows there’s no space in behind as the centre halves are both dropping back toward their own goal, and he knows he’s unlikely to win the first contact from a cross up against the two of them. He then shifts the ball to make a half yard off space to get a shot off. The shot looks like it takes a bit of a deflection, but it’s such a clean and powerful strike that it barely alters its direction or trajectory. Quality centre forward play. Whack an extra k per week on his contract offer and get him signed up for next season.
