Taped it.....so I'll watch it at some point👍 VHS ? ;-) just watched episode 3 and right at the end he (toby) pulls into a car park, I instantly recognised it as the car park I also pulled into in 2017 in Snowdonia, and have photos of it still on my phone, and amazing he pulled into exactly the same parking spot I think this is a sign, Royal Mail owe me thousands

I once had some professional involvement with one of those accused, who ran a post office in the town and whose life was forever ruined because of it. I have since followed this story avidly and really hope all those accused get everything they deserve in terms of satisfaction for their treatment. This whole story is one of the greatest establishment cover ups ever. It is scandalous that those at the top of Royal Mail, who conspired to send many innocent people to jail and to ruin the lives of hundreds of others simply to protect the reputation of a failing business operation, have never been held to account. I don’t know how true to events this drama will be but this is a really good podcast that follows the story right from the beginning: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/m000jf7j?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile

But I also found myself enraged at the way the people involved were treated , really unbelievable . The book , The Great Post Office Scandal , by Nick Wallis , is a great account of this scandal . It is a complex read at times and goes into forensic detail but also manages to portray the great suffering of 738 people who, between 2000 and 2015 were prosecuted by the PO for criminal offences including theft, false accounting and fraud. Apart from losing their livelihoods , their homes and their reputations the really unlucky ones were sent to prison. A national disgrace and then some. No one , to date has been held accountable . A truly heartbreaking story . Im sure many of the main characters from the PO were relieved that all seemed to have drifted away , time had done its work and people had moved on . Not now it seems , the spotlight is well and truly on them again to account for their behaviour .

That Paula Vennells certainly comes across as a nasty piece of work.
And who was responsible for that egregious lie put out to every postmaster individually that it was only at their post office that money was missing from the Horizon system?

It beggars belief that Horizon are still providing a third rate service. Probably because they could not get anyone else to do it. My local Post Office was out of action for 2 weeks when they should have been around to sort out the problem within 24 hours.

I will certainly be steering clear of PO Travel Insurance for the future if this is the way they stitch you up. In fact any PO products will be a No.

does anyone know if the lady who ran Greenfields post office and got sent to prison ever got justice and compensation ? Rubbina Shaheen was sent to prison after being convicted of false accounting . Her conviction was quashed at Court of Appeal on 23rd April 2021. Im afraid I don’t know whether she got compensation as a lot of SPM’s previously convicted are still awaiting financial recompense .

I’m sure she was offered ( all offered £600k) but may have joined the mass claim. She was on Radio Shropshire a few months ago. comp should be set at a min £5million but I do wonder what the defence was doing with over 700 cases? (have to watch to find out)

I watched the select committee hearing (https://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/d05cb9e7-04d0-4d05-8a43-ddd74b1eecc0) that was part of the ITV show; they didn't need to dramatise that too much from the real events.
The bloke (George) representing the National Federation of SPM (sits in middle) during first half of session defends Horizon and "The Brand"... but openly discusses a case (naming the individual), who I think is part of the show, and questions his claim? According to (https://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/9a73af32-a8d7-4ead-ad17-dc92f2d9f131) SPM are auto enrolled into the federation and their subscriptions paid by the post office questioning their independence?
Hope they all get the compensation they deserve asap.

According to Nick Wallis he tried to dominate the panel despite being the least qualified to speak and used every opportunity to deliver an unequivocal defence of the Horizon system. He maintained that the system performed exceptionally robustly and that whilst Postmasters think that as they never the money it had to be an Horizon mistake in reality it was mistakes by members of staff or misappropriation. This from a man who was supposed to represent Subpostmasters . He also singled out one Subpostmaster by name! He could do this because he knew full well he was protected by parliamentary privilege.

Exactly that Matt. A particularly nasty piece of work is Mr Thompson, and every bit as complicit in this conspiracy as the senior figures at Royal Mail. Couldn’t possibly be that he had been paid off, could it? The podcast is pretty scathing of his involvement
