GB's Ben Maher & Explosion W win gold in Showjumping individual.
Sweden looking dangerous for the team even having 3 riders of the 6 in the final round. GB Scott Brash jumped clear in previous round but was .45 secs over the 88 sec time limit and was eliminated.

Liam Heath - Bronze in the men’s single 200m kayak sprint!
Sad to see the injuries of Hector Pardoe in the marathon swimming, he feared he had lost his eyes as another competitor elbowed him in the face.

Just seen it. Well done Matt Walls. He was so dominant, pretty much had it wrapped up halfway through that last heat.

"Over the next three years I'm going to get a lot of races under my belt, get my head down, grind, try and come back for Paris and win it."

I think Team GB have done well overall. A few sports are in transition as some retire and the new stars aren't quite there. Others have improved such as Swimming and other like Triathlon have taken opportunities well.
More successful in terms of total medals won than in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 had the home Olympics bump.
Hopefully Rowing and Track Cycling will be back at Paris 2024.
I think the Lottery money has on the whole been well utilised.

Just seen the highlights of the bronze medal match in the women’s football.
Australia 3-4 USA - What a game! Rapinoe opened the scoring straight from a corner, both her and Lloyd scored twice to seal the win for the USA! Australia seemed very aggrieved the ref blew for full time just about as they were going to take a corner. The gold medal match tomorrow Sweden v Canada - looks like it’s kicking off at 12.30pm now instead of silly o clock, hopefully it’ll be on the red button/iPlayer or something? Looks like the same with the mens as I see that kicks off at 12.30 too, doubt I’ll catch any of it as I’ll be on route to the match. Much more sensible times and glad they’ve seen sense.

amp.theguardian.com/sport/2021/aug/05/kick-off-women-olympic-football-final-delayed-heat-fears-sweden-canadaThe women’s Olympic football final has been moved to later in the day and switched to a different venue because of heat concerns. The match between Sweden and Canada was scheduled to take place in the main Olympic Stadium in Tokyo and kick off at 11am local time on Friday. However, temperatures in the Japanese capital are expected to peak at midday at 32C and the game will now begin at 9pm and be staged in Yokohama. It is understood that both teams were concerned for the health and safety of their players, as well as the state of the pitch. Fifa said the switch had been made “to provide the best possible conditions for the players and having taken into consideration the impact of weather conditions”.

on the video robertson was face down and i thought she had knocked herself out only to get up and carry on you have to admire hte physical toughness and will to win from the bbc "With the scores level at 3-3 at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo following a goal-laden second quarter, Great Britain were in the ascendency and were threatening to take a third-quarter lead as Elena Rayer and Co mounted an attack. Robertson, 27, who was high up the pitch with Rayer, made a run into the opposition circle in the hope of tapping the ball into the goal. However, with a number of players swarming on the India goal, Robertson lost her footing and crashed into the goalpost - leaving her in a heap on the ground."

Back to find we are in the lead in Modern Pentathlon. No idea if this was expected Kate French wins Gold Yeh she is World Champion ..... but nothing certain having to ride a random horse in the show jumping!
One horse wouldn't jump anything and 2 riders were forced to retire when riding him .... the leader at the time got him and she left the arena distraught!

out of all the sports i find the sailling rules confusing but glad we have done well,
what has come up for me is without the support of family(taking turns for years to be at the swiming pool for 5am !, ) friends and in some cases the comunity many of the medalist would not be here, equally lottery funding plays a huge part in the transition to support the sucessful ones.

the dedication such an achivment requires to do this is just mindboggling from the mail "Laura Kenny becomes first British woman to win gold at three Olympics as she and Katie Archibald produce the PERFECT performance in the Madison, winning 10 out of 12 sprints to rout their rivals GB have another gold from Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald in the madison The pairing dominated the entire race, romping away in the point sprints Laura Kenny now has five gold medals from a glittering Olympic career She is now the most successful female Olympic track cyclist of all time"

The star of the BBC coverage is Michael Johnson as always. Been there, done it, got the medals, he speaks with such authority, immense respect for the man.
