Playing Payne up front on his own then bringing the shop on as sub means you need a water tight defence, cos you sure ain't going to score many 😆

Hurst’s go-to pool of former players is drying up. Some have moved onto better things and the only available ones, are past their best.

"Small margins" - says every manager ever.
I feel sorry for Hursty a bit. The train has come off its tracks really early in his managerial career. If only he had committed himself a bit more to us in his final 6 months. Probably finished 2nd, with a nice shiny EFL trophy from wembley in the cabinet. We would only be in the Championship for one season of course but my goodness would us fans savour every 6-0 loss with such grace and aplomb...
One can only dream....

remember the saying
form is temporary , class is permanent
the only thing hurst had with us was form, even then he was lacking class
so glad Roland gave him a swerve

Yeovil, Burton and now Wycombe have managed promotion. But at least they've had a year in the Championship. (or in Burton's case 2). I'm assuming Wycombe get relegated.

And Peterborough twice come to that. Lincoln might do it as well this season. Wycombe should never have been promoted. It was only the crude points per game calculation that got them into the play offs, when everyone could see their trajectory was taking them towards mid-table. Had they played that game in hand, I doubt they'd have made it into the play offs. I'm grateful to Hurst for showing us that promotion to the Championship was a possibility, not just a dream.

Can't believe 'The Shop' is still actively employed as a footballer.
Perhaps I should look for my old boots.

I would have quite happily taken Paul Hurst back once both Askey & Ricketts were sacked by us, but boy am I pleased we didn't. As plenty have mentioned the fact he is relying on Stefan Payne & The Shop is embarrassing. Non league beckons.

More Payne for Hurst today. Losing 2-1 ,with Southend getting a point and Barrow a win.
5 points from safety, the fat lady is tuning up off stage.... 😀

More and more it’s looking like it all just fell into place for him in his time here. He’s literally done nothing since he left us to warrant bringing him back

Hurst was dealt a pretty awful set of cards at Grimsby. Holloway has a lot to answer for. And only the desperate want to join a fourth division relegation dog fight. Hence Payne and John-Lewis joined in January. Can't see them surviving unless National League abandon their season. At least Hurst has a record of taking them up from the fifth tier.

Be nice to see him return to where they came from. Not that I've got any problem with Grimsby the club, just Hurst the manager. Would love to see him with a relegation from the FL on his CV.
Here is hoping.

There will always be a thread on this forum for Hurst in some form or other for as long as he is in football and rightly so. We lost today but there is usually some pleasure to be had by going to the Hurst thread and seeing that his team has also lost and he is one game nearer managing a non league team where he belongs.

Signed - Shrewsbury Towns bitterest fan (well one of plenty of bitterest fans).

Just couldn't be arsed to go to such a depressing hole as Wembley twice in just a few weeks. Doesnt mean I cant be a supporter even though I dont go to most games I'm sure.
