Sam to spot them and Doig to train them. I do think in all the hype about Hurst everywhere people forget how important Doig was to the success of our season.

It’s funny that, as I swear he used to live in Barnsley whilst he was playing for us. I was always under the impression Payne lived in Telford and has done for quite a while I think you may be right, although I remember on his Facebook he used to check into several places in Barnsley even after he joined us. His family are from South London I think, so joining Bristol Rovers didn’t make too much sense, it may be a little closer in comparison to Salop but not that much closer! And since then he’s signed for Tranmere and now Grimsby... we all love a journeyman centre forward!

Didn't he sign for Bristol Rovers because he wanted to be nearer his home in the South? Grimsby, with the wind howling in from the North Sea, seems not to really fit the bill. Cleethorpes actually...a far more benign climate than Grimsby...sub-tropical almost.

Hurst has his man. Sign this morning www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/lenell-john-lewis-grimsby-transfer-4929454"I played under the gaffer a couple of times already now and when I know there's interest there from him, it's a no-brainer for me. He always seems to get the best out of me." Never started a League game as far as I can recall. 48 appearances off the bench. And I've never forgiven him for his failure to track Rotherham's Wood for their winner in the Play-Off Final.

Anyone still want Hurst back?

Grimsby obviously looking for someone to see out the final five minutes of games when they are leading by a goal as they were Saturday. Excellent signing if as was the case with town you get yourself in that position on a very regular basis. Grimsby however are not town.

Anyone still want Hurst back? No I just want to see SC back and fully well. That will do for me.

Well even if he was on line and taking it seriously rather than chatting and chuckling with his mate he’d be a better bet.

I for one would be delighted. Would give “Hursty” a chance to bed in with the pressure off and then really have a good crack at League Two next term.

Well done for 10 man Newport County on their win against PHs Grimsby today.
Return of the messiah not going too well at all at the minute. Still 2nd bottom and played 2 games more that those above.

He did say himself I think that to replicate that season would be an extremely hard task.

Sure that never happened i meant 10 points clear of 3rd place, in an auto promotion spot (TOP) just looked and it was Oct 21, 2017 I do remember us being into doublef figures clear of the play offs too. I thought then that we could probably coast to a top 2 place without any significant drop in form. Well the drop in form came right at the end and we all know it was an extraordinary season in that 3 teams just kept on winning, sadly us falling right near the end of it.

Made a change for Hurst to have to bring on The Shop at 1-0 down, rather than 1-0 up. National League beckons.

Even more of a Payne for Hurst tonight - officially the current strongest team in the league. Holding up the rest after Southend won tonight.

The National League being voided looks Hursts and Grimsby’s best chance of staying up now.

Doesn't work for me, doesn't cheer me up. Though it is good to have completed the divorce from our ex manager, that relationship will now never be rekindled.
