Wales seem to be gaining momentum while everyone else is stumbling - I know someone in my office who is in his late twenties who signed up for the vaccine reserve list in the morning and was vaccinated by lunchtime! Can only dream of an equivalent service in England

Are you waiting for a date for your seconde jab?
I had my first jab through my surgery at Newport vacs center and was waiting to be called for my seconde as no date given.
Found out yesterday you can go online and book your second without waiting to be called 👍

Can only dream of an equivalent service in England Someone said to me that they have heard of people having had their vaccine by ringing up the vaccination centre (at Sundorne) and being added to a list where people would be rung if there was any left over at the end of the day. Not sure if there was any truth in this, typically I was told this around the time it closed so haven't tried myself (or at least I think it's closed)

That sounds like an unofficial thing though ran out of common sense and not an official reserve list, is it actually closed now as a vaccination site? That would mean there aren't any in Shrewsbury right?

Just pointing out you don’t have to wait for the invite 👍

Why’s it closed again til Friday if there’s plenty of vaccine? Have they done all the over 45s ? Its been closed since the beginning of the month for a variety of reasons. Low stock of vaccine, most first doses for over fifties completed, a deep clean and training. It was supposed to stay closed until 23rd April when second doses would commence. The government however earlier this week approved vaccines for the 45-49 age group so the centre reopened for two days to give it a good start. Priority however is to get second doses completed whilst vaccine is available. Upon completion of those second doses Im sure there will be a return to the under fifties subject to availability of the vaccine.

I had my second jab yesterday, administered by a nurse who is a good friend of my older daughter coincidentally.
She spends half her time off as a volunteer vaccinator which made me think about the selfish and greedy people who have been in the news recently.

Good news over this way too, things really starting to pick up... Whisper it quietly: Europe's vaccination programme is taking off - and could catch the UK
Just the snippet where it discusses things here in Germany... Germany, where vaccine roll-out has accelerated dramatically since Easter, is in a similar race against time and its ability to get a handle on the virus could also prove key for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s CDU party.
On Wednesday, the country set a new national record with 738.501 jabs in a day, compared with 547,465 in the UK on the same day. Some 18.5 per cent of Germans have now had their first jab, compared to just 12 per cent on April 1. Some 6.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.
While bigger deliveries of vaccines have played a role, the decision to involve GPs in the jab campaign has also been key to the newfound speed.
Doctors administered more than 1.1m in their first week alone and are expected to ramp up even further as dose quantities increase. The gear change could see the entire adult population receive a first jab by July 18, two months early and be fully vaccinated by August 8, according to the German Institute for Public Health Insurance (ZI).

Had mine today, they were taking the mick out of my Shrewsbury shirt, but it was a good talking point and conversation starter must of had 3 or 4 of the staff stop and ask.

From yesterday, I can now book as I'm in the under 40's. I had a quick look yesterday on the website and closest one was Telford, had a look today and its now Oswestry. I'm just wondering whether had experienced similar things with other age categories and it takes a few days for Shrewsbury to appear? If I have to travel its not the end of the world but if it's a case of waiting a few days to get one in Shrewsbury I'd prefer to do that

Bowls Centre in Shrewsbury only open til 2pm this week but from Sunday will be opening 8-8 each day. Half the week will be for the Oxford jab and the other half for the Pifiza with the lower age groups in mind. National NHS booking system should allow you to book but care will be needed to book the right day for your preferred vaccine. I would expect some initial confusion.

If the speed of vaccine roll-out is as bad as some posters on this thread have been claiming, I'm amazed to hear that anyone has been near a needle. i have a mate who has been working as a temp at our place delivering packets since before xmas. ( nothing to do with me ) this is his last week as hes given his notice, he's is starting a new role as security from next week at the nec i think, its going to be one of the large vaccine centres opening i'm not sure i've heard a figure of how many vaccines are being produced each week which kind of halts the debate going much further until we know that one thing i've noticed is the jabs are gaining speed and should get faster and faster each week this article was written in early january 2021 and i cant find the article but i recall seeing somthing say that had increased to 5 million by working 24 hours a day by putting on an extra shift ttps://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/two-million-oxford-jabs-will-be-made-every-week-s70gm3rm2 "Two million doses of the Oxford vaccine are due to be supplied each week by the middle of this month as pressure builds on the government to speed up immunisations." whith the change of guidlines the under 40 age group will not be given the oxford vaccine. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56727510The government has bought 17 million doses - enough to vaccinate about 8.5 million people. Scotland is due to receive more than one million of the UK's order, and the doses will arrive over a period of months. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56921018"An extra 60 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine have been ordered by the UK government as it puts together plans for a vaccination booster programme in the autumn." mainly good news but some disapointing news about Novavx www.nytimes.com/2021/05/11/health/covid-vaccine-novavax-delays.htmlNovavax, one of the first players in the race to vaccinate the world against Covid, delivered disheartening news on Monday, saying that its highly protective vaccine would not be authorized in the United States or Britain until at least July, and that it would not reach peak production until the end of the year.

Had my second jab at Chester racecourse this morning. It was certainly much busier than when I went for my first one in March.
The nurse who administered my injection said that they were already geared up for a further increase in numbers going into next week.
They will be needing additional stewards to support the roll out.

The GP surgery I volunteer at are mainly doing second jabs. They believe they big centres will handle the bulk of vaccinations for the remainder of the rollout. As we get towards younger people it gets easier for them to go to the big centres. This means the bulk of vaccines will go there.
