What a coincidence that the Qatar World Cup is only four months away can't see that making any difference , wouldn't be surprised if teams take the knee at the world cup my opinion is it was a waste of time from the start , actually caused issues here and there including at shrewsbury had taking the knee actually been my idea i'd have had the blame saying i was just after a reaction 😜

What a coincidence that the Qatar World Cup is only four months away can't see that making any difference , wouldn't be surprised if teams take the knee at the world cup my opinion is it was a waste of time from the start , actually caused issues here and there including at shrewsbury Divisive from the word go. Here's a brief history of gaslighting the masses under the false guise of 'anti-racism' for anyone who doesn't have a memory capacity of 2 years ago; June 2020 - Players kneel down with 'Black Lives Matter' on the back of the shirt at the restart of the Premier League season as a direct endorsement of the American political group in response to the murder of George Floyd. August 2020 - Fans briefly return to stadiums and some boo the gesture. Those who do are threatened with lifetime bans and arrest for thoughtcrime (See Orwell's 1984 for ref) End of 20/21 season - The PL/FA finally acknowledge that 'BLM' are a marxist organisation hell-bent at creating social division but rather than abandon the stunt altogether, claim that 'taking the knee' has and never had anything to do with Black Lives Matter so if you continue to oppose it you're a racist bigot (See June 2020 timestamp for ref) Euro 2020(2021) - Many England fans boo the gesture but Wembley stadium finds a way of feeding fake crowd noise into the PA system to drown this noise out to give the false impression that the gesture is universally supported. End of 21/22 season - The PL/FA attempt to rebrand 'taking the knee' - claim it now most definitely has nothing to do with Black Lives Matter because it now stands for 'discrimination of all kinds'. Some fans clap, some boo, most don't do anything. However almost everyone is in agreement that the stunt is toxic, futile and classic virtue signalling. I hope in the interests of uniting our fans and creating a positive atmosphere for our first game of the season, Shrewsbury Town follow suit and abandon this gesture effective of Saturday's game.

A peaceful gesture done voluntarily by the players and which is of literally no inconvenience to the observer.
May it continue as long as the players wish to do it.

Just a sporadic organic thing that the players did and continue to do? It is not beyond the realms of posibility that a football player exists who actually holds racist views but still the knee, is it? Or are we to believe football players are somehow immune? It seems to me that this has been an organised campaign and fizzled out in to virtue signalling unfortunately.

There was a round of applause for the NHS on a Thursday night last year which went on for a few weeks and was then rightly dropped. Get your point across for a period of time. To just carry it on renders it meaningless. If players continue to take the knee this season I wont applaud and I wont boo. I couldnt care less. Its their choice. For me as a fan its just become part of the warm up and nothing else.

For me as a fan its just become part of the warm up and nothing else. That's a very good example. I personally think that taking the knee has run its course in terms of the message that it was intending to convey. I would go so far as to say that I am now indifferent to it.

Finally!!!
Common sense prevails and a virtue signalling, misguided and bordering racist “gesture” is no more (nearly)
I don’t hold much hope tho. Give it a week and there will be calls for players to get on all fours and show support for LGBT+ community.
No doubt by the time this post is finished LGBT+ would have changed with the addition of serval more abbreviations.

We 'clapped for Ukraine' one game last year.
Why don't we do that anymore?
Has the war ended?

Racism comes in many guise’s Shouldn't we all have strong views about it? I'm sure I've told this story before but I once reported an infamous taxi driving Town fan for racially abusing Clayton Ince down the old Meadow many moons ago. The person was identified immediately by the steward who replied "not ____ again" and then literally nothing was done until several years later when he racially abused someone again in the new stadium but this time got banned. I don't know if you've been around racism at a football ground but it isn't pleasant. Thankfully we've come a long way since the late 90s. Racism is racism. Your attempt to re-define it because you want to serves no other purpose than to undermine it.

If they still want to do it let them do it.
It means nothing. It achieves nothing.

Was at Rushton and Diamond when the team came out, the referee had a religious head covering. The chap in front of me started chanting ‘he’s got a tea towel on his head’ repeatedly. I reported him, he was thrown out. I’m not redefining anything players take the knee rightly or wrongly to promote the message of anti racism, booing them is in my view a gesture against their stand. I don’t clap them as I have some reservations but wouldn’t boo them. Ill be honest I’ve joined in the most vile chants possible in the early 70s when as a teenager i was doing what the big boys do but times have changed.

No one should have 'reservations' about an anti-racism message because it's something that 99.99% of people would unilaterally endorse. If you can't get your message across about something that is such an easy win (saying you oppose racism) then you're doing something badly wrong. Credit for what you did at the Rushden game.
