12.5 overs - Rain!!
Good on you fella, straight back on the updates even after a skinful last night. Wonder if those calling for Anderson and Buttler’s heads to literally be stuck on a spike are giving this thread a wide berth?

In these type of conditions Jimmy Anderson is in a class of his own.
Hopefully he reaches the 600 before the end of this test.

Over the longer term, things do tend to revert to the mean. We’ve seen that with Buttler’s batting reverting to his usual levels and the same has now happened with his keeping.
Fortunately that too has now ascended back to levels that the likes of Foakes can only dream of. The Foakes fanboys are curiously quiet about the best passage of Test wicketkeeping witnessed thus far in 2020 AD!

and Foakes hasn't dropped a catch in either series

Blimey, Jos Buttler has one decent day behind the stumps and suddenly he's a world beater!!!
I hope he continues to work hard on his keeping, no one on this board has ever questioned his ability with the bat that's for sure.

Back on the County circuit I see.

That's 4 chances dropped off Anderson. He should have got his 600th wicket well before now.

Poor effort that, shows that his keeping is still work in progress, contrary to what some may think.

I was impressed by the sporting gesture by virtually the whole Pakistan team running in from various parts of the field to congratulate Crawley after his epic innings - other countries take note of how to respect your opponents please.

I witnessed a similar gesture from the Derbyshire players after Aneurin Donald scored the joint fastest 1st class 200 ever for Glamorgan at Rhos on Sea. Got to his 100, 150 and 200 with 6s! Sadly, his career seems to have gone into decline since then. He's left Glamorgan, and doesn't seem to be doing anything special for Hampshire.

If he his bet those 4 culprits will be off his Xmas card list!!!!

I was wondering what had happened to him when I found out that he was out for the season due to injury. I'm just hoping that play is washed out for the entire day at Taunton! Gloucs have performed absolutely abysmally against them so far.
Worcester's game has already been abandoned as a draw.

Final group game to come, Worcs vs Somerset. Fingers crossed the weather stays fine for this one.
Somerset and Derbyshire lead the way as the top 2 teams going into the final round of matches.

Worcs now have to beat Somerset. A draw is no good, though it would have been had Worcs not delayed their declaration against Glamorgan, and lost a further 8 points for a win as a result.

76.6 overs - Pak 161-3 "Oh, shot! Babar! He comes down the pitch and whacks Dom Bess back over his head for a glorious four."
That shot takes the runs in test matches involving England past 1,000,000 runs

Given the circumstances, all in all it's been a good Summer of test cricket. A big thanks to the Windies and Pakistan for making it so.

Test cricket is an irreplaceable kind of therapy.
I watched the cricket on Monday afternoon with my father. He hasn’t been well the past two years, in and out of hospital, but he is now at home being looked after by my mum. We sat in the living room chatting about life, work, Covid-19, memories of our family holidays, old school reports, and more.
All the while, the cricket was trundling along, too. We paused for each delivery, waiting to see what happened, before picking up the conversational thread. If there was an appeal, or a ball that sailed past the outside edge, we might remark upon it. When a graphic came up, like that showing the list of leading wicket takers, we might ponder on the remarkable average of Glenn McGrath (21.64, since you ask). But otherwise, we continued the chat as if nothing had happened.
It made me realise that cricket is a game, but it is also a kind of therapy. I wonder how many people live their lives with Test Match Special in the background, or the feed from Sky while working from home, a kind of comfort blanket of familiarity and tradition that frames the day. There is an episode of Inspector Morse – Deceived by Flight – pretty much played to the backdrop of radio cricket commentary, and it is one of the best.
They say that Test cricket won’t last forever. One thing’s for sure: we will miss it when it’s gone.
