That is so very sad. The public is trying to "Protect the NHS". The Goverment don't seem to be "Protecting the NHS". She was young, those who have bravely volunteered to come back from retirement are being put in grave danger.

100,000 per day won't be mentioned much again.

100,000 per day won't be mentioned much again. it wont be mentioned because it will not be achivable for some time, Germany put together a co ordinated effort and they do 50,000 the idea thay the uk can double that in amonth from such a low number is disengenuous. www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/shrewsbury/2020/04/04/249-drive-in-coronavirus-tests-in-shrewsbury/Private drive-through coronavirus tests are being offered for £249 at a Shrewsbury health centre.Summerfield Healthcare is offering tests at its Battlefield clinic. Professionals will carry out the tests while patients remain in their cars with results normally available within two working days. Tests will also be available at Summerfield's clinic in Wolverhampton. how can it be justified that a private company can provide this when front line staff cant get tested ?

What would be the point in this idea? £249 to know if you have it? If you don't, you can still get it, if you do what happens, as you won't just be admitted to hospital straight away if you are not acutely ill

Will someone please ask that question of Hancock at the daily briefing.

www.shropshirestar.com/news/health/coronavirus-covid19/2020/04/08/college-makes-masks-for-hospital-and-hospice-workers/"A team from Ellesmere College is putting the school’s equipment to use in the fight against Covid-19 by making more than 1,000 essential face shields for Shropshire hospital and hospice workers." "The design and technology team has already self-funded and donated 200 face shields to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Severn Hospice. They also aim to join with other schools who have supported Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital and will help others that need their help due to personal protective equipment (PPE) shortages. Now the group of teachers – key workers themselves – has raised more than £1,300 through crowdfunding to make another 1,000 for the frontline NHS and hospice staff."

A new high of 786 deaths from Coronavirus yesterday. The average daily death rate in England and Wales before Coronavirus was around 1400. How many are dying, but not from Coronavirus at the moment? Hopefully road accident statistics are much lower as well as work related accidents. As we go on some of the older Coronavirus death cases would have shuffled off this mortal coil from other causes too.

Though no expert, my understanding is that stats for tuesday / wednesday are always higher as hospitals arnt all able to submit their data early enough monday to be included then, so you get a bit of a lag.

So ok, what does the test that people are clamoring for provide?? to me its confirmation that the virus exists in you or does not, but the test is literally irrelevant the moment you leave the testing center, So if you socially distance and maintain the rules, then there is no need to be tested, this obviously does not fit all such as NHS and Care workers, but just getting the symptoms should be enough to take action. So i understand for constant testing of these people, but not for wider community. its the anti body test that should be focused upon. But if its not reliable its no use, so spend the time and money getting that right.

So what do we do in the meantime? Stay in lockdown for months whilst the economy continues to crash and burn? Germany set up mass testing using the antigen test, and that coupled with tracing has kept their death toll very low. But UK changed their policy in mid March, restricting testing to only those hospitalised. www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/health/nhs-revise-coronavirus-testing-plan-17914993

So who do I believe?? Northwestman off Blue and Amber, of Prof Chris Whitty??regardless weather you agree or not, this guy has spent a lifetime in his field, not just googled it on a whim, and what do we do? we follow government guidelines..... thats all we can do, do you honestly think that they want to see people die? do you not think that the government have always stated that it is science and medical led? So have the Germans got it right? nobody knows.....

You make a fair point Mr Downward, but I would point out that this time last week Prof Whitty was telling me and my colleagues we didn’t have to wear surgical masks when on our wards. A day later he told us we do👍

I only have total admiration for everyone working in all frontline services, there is no time or place for blame. I'm certain that the powers that be are making decisions on collective expert advice on a daily if not hourly basis. We are at war with an invisible and highly contagious virus, something no living generation has really had to deal with before. People are having to make huge decisions that will affect the jobs, health and lives of billions of people. Let them get on with supporting those that need it first and for sanity sake, please stop the constant pub culture bickering, it really isn't helpful

Isn't the advantage of testing that you can map out how the virus is spreading and where and help trace those a positive tester might have passed it on to and isolate them to stop further transmission? Following social distance and guidelines is not going to prevent all virus transmission, from surfaces, stroking pets, etc. and not quite getting the hand washing regime right.
Without mass testing we will all have to self isolate for months. The current lock down is not self isolation, it involves trips to the shops for essential items and essential workers going out to work and therefore a chance of catching the virus.

Is he going to go with just opening everything up some day and hoping for the best?

Well I think the official line is that they will not talk about exit strategy until the peak has passed.... so why the clamour for answers when we are still in the eye of the storm.... I have faith that there is a strategy, and instead of demanding answers let them deal with what they feel is the main priority at this moment in time.

Trouble is we don't so far have a test to tell if you have had it. We do have a test to tell you you have got it. So, at the moment, the only idea we have of how many have had it is either guess that those who self isolate have had it or a guess that if 10% end up needing hospital treatment then there must be another 90% who have had it. No need to think of exist strategies yet, but the data we are going to need is there for the testing now but looks like being hard to establish later.

So who do I believe?? Northwestman off Blue and Amber, of Prof Chris Whitty??regardless weather you agree or not, this guy has spent a lifetime in his field, Harold Shipman was a medical practitioner who spent a lifetime in his field. Whilst I am not entirely sure of the professional medical qualifications of Northwestman, I am pretty sure that Prof Chris Whitty provides me with little confidence nor comfort. He is without doubt either a) being forced to tow the party line or, b) out of his depth.

No professional medical qualifications here, but I am someone who is prepared to research certain subjects in depth, as exemplified by my contributions to the Bury thread.

But he isn’t. And as per, you peddle an agenda on this board where it is not relevant nor appropriate. Big up.

We are talking about a government that advocated herd immunity, in case anyone has forgotten.
On medical advice.

On medical advice. no doubt a different prime minister woudnt have caught the virus and wiped it all out by now ? lets have another general election then ? I didn't vote for anyone as they are all the same difficult times and yet the same political bulls**t is rife, same people either defending or attacking depending which way they initially voted I'm waiting for the PM to leave hospital and hear a chosen reporter to shout, "prime minister are you fit enough to run the country"
