We've just been informed that if you travel with public transport to work from home until the end of the month (at the least). The lads school that was closed for two days is now closed for 18 days. Not heard anything as yet from my other two lads schools as yet. Loads of football games and events now cancelled (the beer festival here in Stuttgart, for example). Just feel it's starting to build up..

The rate of increase of the number of reported cases is rising. The rate currently is equivalent to the number of cases doubling every 3.59 days. Just get on your calculator. That is what the graph is showing.
And those are reported cases. How many actual cases are there?
How many of the deaths have been in one cluster?
The likelihood is that there are thousands of people currently in the UK who are infected. Perhaps more than 10,000.

So in the next 12.5 days there are going to be an average of 960 new cases a day and 65 deaths a day in the UK ? The current averages of 23 new cases a day since February 21st and 0.4 deaths would seem to say otherwise ? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_growth

Total infected increases by more than 100 in a day for the first time.

Bizarrely, FIFA's corruption may have made for a stroke of scheduling genius. If the Euros are bumped to 2021, the 2022 World Cup had already been moved from summer to winter. So knock-on effects might be reduced. Although I feel incredibly dirty for suggesting FIFA are in any way a force for good in the world. FIFA and a" force for good" is not words i would expect to see in the same sentance.

It appears Nicola Sturgeon is now our prime minister. Although in many respects, that's an upgrade.

Why is the British government receiving science and medical advice that is resulting in different actions from other governments? the British goverments approach is completely different to the rest of the world the new Slovenian goverments responce; "announced sweeping lockdown measures it plans to take immediately after assuming office after infectious disease specialists issued an urgent appeal Thursday for public life to be brought to a standstill due to the coronavirus epidemic. Doctors called on the outgoing and incoming government to shut down educational institutions immediately, not on Monday as planned, and extend the closure to all places where people gather, including cinemas, museums and bars. They urged people to stay indoors in order to prevent the epidemic from unfolding the way it has in Italy." Sloevnia has closed its border with Italy , as of today slovenia has 90 confirmed cases.

Be interesting to see whether now that even Minor's beloved Boris Johnson has admitted that this is quite a big deal, he's changed his tune?
Still, it's easy to gaze down from your ivory tower in isolated Bishop's Castle and tell the masses to eat cake I guess.

Well it's wash your hands and say goodbye to loved ones then.
And it is that because they estimate that between 5,000 and 10,000 people in the UK are infected. We need to wage war on this. It looks like we need to get organised in our own communities.

The worst thing now us that the UK may very well be right in its course of action but the communication has been so poor and unconvincing that people are starting to panic, something which is being fuelled by the government's inaction in a feedback loop.
Absolutely nothing in the way of leadership here. It's up to us now essentially.

Oh, and please wash your hands. Yes, that should do it.

Anyone who has had flu, will know self isolation is a given, because you literally can't get out of bed.

Boris just cannot bring himself to use the word “expert” to describe the public health advisors, having rubbished experts all through the Brexit process. Pathetic!

Wash your hands, say goodbye to your loved ones and don't call 111.
I'd count a new total for UK cases below 730 by teatime tomorrow as good news.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51865442That's the premier league effectively in lockdown now until it gets to the point where all games are behind closed doors or it's cancelled or the present table is allowed to stand. Or perhaps Liverpool will be awarded the title and there'll be some closed doors champions league and relegation play offs. Get to see the Town while you can, and then strap ourselves in as this is going to be one hell of a bumpy ride for the next three months. We can certainly kiss good bye to the Euro's, the marathon I've spent the last three months training for. Pretty sure some lower league clubs will go close to the wall here as well.

No point comparing Scotland to England as the population is sparser, but Edinburgh and Glasgow to, say. Birmingham and Manchester might be valid.

Football is not the be all and end all in this, and clearly we will see our league games stopped soon. To ‘catch up’, sack off the Euros, play league games up to the end of June if needed, start next season in September and sack off the domestic cups next season to allow for the league to be squeezed into a smaller window.
Something will have to give and it’s easier to cancel a tournament that hasn’t yet started. Clubs will lose that income but at least they can budget for it and it will be across the board so no one gains.
I’m loathe to overly make lifestyle changes whilst still being expected to go into work etc, but for example the Coventry game, I was going on the train and now will probably go by car. I doubt this virus will seriously harm me so I’m not worried about that as much as passing on to people a heck of a lot more vulnerable.
Despite all the hysteria and undeniable panic, and whether you agree with their actions or not, I thought that Johnson and the two advisors were excellent earlier, in terms of clearly explaining the current situation and why specific actions have been deemed appropriate or inappropriate. I would advise it to be replayed several times in the coming days and everyone to be pushed towards watching it, but the situation evolves so quickly it’ll soon be out of date.

Has anyone seen or heard (for example from the press conference) information about how many of the confirmed cases in the UK are being hospitalised? (i.e. are admitted)

Poor communication? Catch it. Bin it. Kill it. Wash hands regularly and now self isolate if you feel unwell. Information is there. You’re about a week out of date, which is as good as a lifetime in this context. Self isolate if running a temperature or if you have a repetitive cough is from tomorrow and that info was issued late afternoon. Washing your hands properly is still your best means of defence as the virus isn't highly contagious, that's obviously more then a week old but remains extremely important don't you think?

But, maybe the trains will be quiet anyway as people decide to stay home. I note that some countries are putting extra carragued on so passengers can spread out and reduce the risk of contact. Good practical idea.
