Johnson isn't the only leader who has said that we need to accept the awful truth that some will be losing loved ones as a result of the virus in the coming weeks and months. As far as I can see, it's now all about managing the virus so that those numbers are as low as possible. The idea being that if the NHS is to become overwhelmed and can not cope, the numbers of those who will succumb to the virus will be much higher (which I guess makes sense). I don't get the impression that closures and more extreme measures won't happen in the UK, just that they're not being put into pace as yet...it seems to be all about the timing. I just hope they have it right.
Latest over this way. One of my lads is off school. The other two aren't. Discussions however, are now underway about whether all schools (in South West Germany at least) should be closed. As already mentioned, we have seen events that are expected to host more than 1000 cancelled.
I do think the format of these press conferences can leave folk a little confused as to what is needed, with the discussion switching between the three. It would be good if at the end of these conferences they make an effort to run down the current recommendations one by one, making them clear.

Be interesting to see whether now that even Minor's beloved Boris Johnson has admitted that this is quite a big deal, he's changed his tune? Still, it's easy to gaze down from your ivory tower in isolated Bishop's Castle and tell the masses to eat cake I guess. No need to get personal.

Well it's wash your hands and say goodbye to loved ones then. And it is that because they estimate that between 5,000 and 10,000 people in the UK are infected. We need to wage war on this. It looks like we need to get organised in our own communities. Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely¾from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19

It appears Nicola Sturgeon is now our prime minister. Although in many respects, that's an upgrade. Perhaps we could campaign for an independence referendum for everywhere north of Birmingham?

With Leicester team testing positive and Premier League crowds comprising people from all over the country who perport to be Man U or Liverpool. etc. supporters they have to put a stop to Premier Leagued matches right now, or play some purely for the cameras.
Lower leagues don't hare off around Europe so much, but I fear it's time for fans with underlying health problems to choose, or be advised to, stay away.
Time to relax rules on broadcasting too, people need something to keep them going during self isolation, promote ifollow and have it on offer to encourage fans to choose whether to go to matches or stay home.

We're 4 weeks behind Italy in our measure because we're 4 weeks behind Italy in the spread of the virus.
I am baffled why some people can't work that out.

Of which 10% would need to be hospitalised. That would equate to up to 22 million people getting it. We have 4,000 ICU beds in the NHS We have 127,000 beds in total in the NHS There is, roughly, 88% bed occupancy in the NHS In northern Italy people who are over 65 or have a pre-existing condition are not even assessed by ICU. When they go into cardiac arrest they are not revived. Wash your hands. Say goodbye to your loved ones. Stop televising football in pubs.

Isn’t one of the fears though that people will go to crowded, stuffy, pubs to watch? That might be the exact relaxation of broadcast rules we need: More matches on the channels we all have, more matches available on the internet. The media has it's part to play in keeping the population going in a time of national emergency, Country before profit for once. They may not lose revenue in the end as some might stay and pay afterwards.

We have already done things differently to Italy. The recorded cases of corona virus was virtually identical between us till mid to late February when Italy's confirmed cases rocketed. From what I've read the suggestion is Italy failed to track down and isolate the early carriers which led to an explosion of cases and sadly deaths.

If at 5pm today we have less than 730 confirmed cases in the UK I will entertain the idea that we're not following the same path as Italy. Let's see.

i whent for an appointment at my surgery it was at 9.15 am at this time the surgery is normally rammend today there was six of us; a person came in to ask for an appointment and was asked some screening question about there health, experenicing temperature / cough /difficulty with breathing had they recently traveled from Italy ( all sensible) my only thought was pherhaps a large sign outside the surgery if you have any of these phone dont come in person. what was was amazing was they were offered an appointment in half hour's time that day!!!!!!!!!! our surgery is normally very busy and they keep a few emergency appointments available each day but normally you have to waite a few days to a week for an appointment.
i wondered what has happened to the normal number of people who crowd the surgery. this was not a one off as my wife had an appointment this week and there were only two people in the surgery.

Professor Graham Medley, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, "I think that a good way of doing it is to imagine that you do have the virus and change your behaviour so that you're not transmitting it. "
'Don't think about changing your behaviour so you won't get it. Think about changing your behaviour so you don't give it to somebody else.'

Sales of Scrabble, jigsaws and Monopoly set to rise? Could well be!!! That is the thing though isn't it... I've already told the Mrs that the old xBox 360 and TV will be out of the keller for a week or two if the other two lads schools are closed. Not been decided as yet that though; Bayern, Berlin and Saarland have closed schools. We wait and see. Just going back to something you said earlier; it is a darn shame that the football can't be played, even if it was behind closed doors (but of course we have to consider players, managers, officials, staff)...because I think it would have helped folk cope with what could be a very long few weeks ahead. We'll be sure to try and catch as many dog programs as we can, you can't whack 'The Dog House' to pep yourself up some...👍

In hindsight, was the worst thing that has happened so far to actually have the Half Term holiday? Kids sitting in schools turned into kids jetting off with their families and bringing back Coronavirus.

You’re about a week out of date, which is as good as a lifetime in this context. Self isolate if running a temperature or if you have a repetitive cough is from tomorrow and that info was issued late afternoon. Washing your hands properly is still your best means of defence as the virus isn't highly contagious, that's obviously more then a week old but remains extremely important don't you think? I suggested it was insufficient, not unimportant.
