Looks like the weather might be relenting for my annual trip to Rhos on Sea. Glamorgan v Lancashire starts on Sunday. Did you enjoy by the way? A bit of a one sided contest if ever there was one! Sorry I wasn't able to make it, health reasons unfortunately. Yes. Three days of sunshine, beer tent and burger bar. Vilas was sheer class. How Glamorgan started this game in 2nd place I have no idea, but they are deservedly out of the top 3 now. Lancs members told me that Haseeb Hameed is not likely to be offered another contract, and all parties accept that he needs a fresh start elsewhere. He'd be ideal to sort out Worcester's openers problem! Sorry to hear about your health issues. My knees found trouble negotiating the undulating grass banks at Rhos!

42.6 overs - WICKET Paine lbw b Woakes 11 (Aus 162-6) WELL REVIEWED JOE ROOT.
It looked leg side in real time, so you can understand why the umpire didn't give it, but ball tracking says that's hitting Tim Paine's leg stump and Chris Woakes is on the board!
-----
45.6 overs - WICKET
Pattinson c Root b Archer 2 (Aus 173-7)
----- 49.6 overs - WICKET
Cummins c Bairstow b Archer 0 (Aus 174-8)

Archer get his 5th although even after review not entirely sure his bat touched the ball.

51.2 overs - WICKET Labuschagne lbw b Stokes 74 (Aus 177-9) Finally got him. Full toss knocks him off his feet. Reviewed but was hitting middle peg!
----- 52.1 overs - WICKET Lyon lbw b Archer 1 (Aus 179 all out) ----- Lost last 7 wicket for just 43 runs. Let's see how England get on tomorrow

There are several good young fast bowlers around the county circuit but they will probably have to wait until Anderson and Broad hang their boots up before they can also break into the side.

So now the question is...… Is Jimmy Anderson really fit enough to play at Old Trafford. I would love him to play, but if he does, and then breaks down again, and England lose the game there will be hell to pay for the medics/management. Come on England

Come on England If Australia win this test what happens at Old Trafford will be academic. If we win this test I can't see us changing a winning side, certainly not in the bowling department.

When are the selectors going to learn ROY needs to drop down the order to be effective in test match cricket or not play him at all.

Roy c Warner b Hazlewood 9. Wafting at one outside the off stump he didn't need to play.
How many more chances is he going to be given before the selectors realise he's no opener in red ball cricket?

Root c Warner b Hazlewood 0. 10/2.
He's making a good case not to be promoted to Number 3!

When are the selectors going to learn ROY needs to drop down the order to be effective in test match cricket or not play him at all. The second innings of this test has to be his last chance as a test match opener. There was an interesting discussion on the verdict yesterday evening about something I wasn't aware of. Apparently Roy was a concussion doubt coming into this game. If he hadn't made the game Ollie Pope was in line to be called into the middle order with Denly moving up to open, I would have thought Dominic Sibley would have been next in line in those circumstances but it appears not. Root out for a successive duck, England in trouble here.

I am quite aware of the outcome if the Aussies win this one, but irrespective of that if Anderson plays again this series, and breaks down again, I still reckon that sparks will fly. We DON'T like being beaten by the Aussies full stop, no matter what, or ever. My son-in-law is an Aussie so have some sympathy please.

This is The Ashes on the line right here, we must get up to the Australian 1st innings score at the very least.

Horrible shot by Stokes. Played at a really wide ball outside the off stump that he could barely reach. Totally irresponsible.
Stokes c Warner b Pattinson 8.
A white ball shot played in a red ball match.

Just been confirmed on the BBC website: Hameed released by LancashireWe bring you disappointing news from the world of county cricket: Haseeb Hameed, who made a fine start to his Test career in India in 2016, will be released by Lancashire at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Hameed made 31 and 82 on Test debut and an unbeaten 59 with a broken finger in his third match, earned high praise from no less a player than Virat Kohli, and was widely seen as a fine England player in the making.
His form has nosedived since, he could barely buy a run and he has spent a large chunk of the past two seasons in the Lancashire second XI.

Very sad about Hameed he looked the real test opener we have been looking for, but since his hand injuries he never seems to have recovered form. he is a young man so perhaps a new environment and coaching at another county may pay dividends and bring him back to test match cricket!

At least this is not the lowest test score we have ever had against Australia although 52 in 1948 wasn't too clever can we make that?

Woakes has a better technique in red ball cricket than most of the batsmen! So still some hope so long as Buttler doesn't go into 1 day mode.
