More importantly 122-1 as such

Quite embarrassing standard of batting from both sides at times, although there has been some superb bowling and fielding.
England inevitably managing (so far) to squander the World Cup winning goodwill and interest.

I listened to the tea time discussion on TMS. I hate having to agree with Boycott.

www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/27446421/jason-roy-woes-test-opener-epitomise-broken-system"There is a lack of respect for the old virtues of batting; for determination and patience and technique. And there is a lack of respect given to the county game which builds players; truly, the changes made in recent years amount to an act of vandalism. If the ECB truly care about Test cricket - oh, they talk a good game, but there's very little evidence of anything other than talk - they will acknowledge that you don't build Test success by focusing on white-ball cricket and you don't build a team by picking the most attractive stroke-makers. The ECB's policies played a key part in winning the World Cup, but are about to play a key part in losing the Ashes. England's Test batting is painfully weak. Perhaps as weak as it has ever been. Unless the ECB have the courage to change the county structure - and yes, that includes backtracking on the monstrosity that is the white-ball window and accepting that the focus on The Hundred won't do a thing to help the Test team - it will keep happening".

32.2 overs - WICKET Head b Stokes 25 (Aus 97-4) Bowled him! Ben Stokes fires down a well-directed yorker and Travis Head can't jam his bat down on it in time.
The ball zips into the base of off stump and Head departs. A really good spell this from Stokes.
effectively 209-4

Well, at this rate we'll have two and a half sunny days to get the runs!

So now we have blown this test what team do we go for for the penultimate test Buttler, Bairstow and Foakes can only be one of those or do we gamble and give Pope a go behind the stumps and hope he can get a few runs too. If we are already failing to get the Ashes back and with the dearth of test batsman, why not give some younger ones a go, Sibley and Hain from Warwickshire are decent batsmen in county cricket, Curran has been in the squad so must be considered.
Burns, Sibley, Root, Hain, Pope, Stokes, Woakes, Curran, Broad, Archer, Leach,Anderson is that such a bad blend of youth and experience for a 13

Burns, Sibley, Root, Hain, Pope, Stokes, Woakes, Curran, Broad, Archer, Leach,Anderson is that such a bad blend of youth and experience for a 13 I couldn't see such wholesale changes being made, I don't think the selectors go that way and I agree with that policy. For me the key positions to look at going forward, as they seem to have been for the last few years, are at the top of the order and at three/four. They cannot persist with the failed experiment of Roy as an opener, but to be fair to him he should be tried in the middle order where he may be more successful. Pope's technique really isn't any tighter than Roy's, he flails away outside off stump a fair bit too so I don't see much advantage in selecting him over Roy in the middle order for the time being. We need a proper opener to partner Burns and, on current form, that should be Sibley. Sam Hain has always looked a fine player to me and he should be high up the list for a chance sooner rather than later. I'd persist with Bairstow for now, Buttler I've never been really convinced by as a test player but he is a real favourite of Ed Smith so I don't see him missing out for a while yet.

Absolutely right TVOR selectors have never been into wholesale changes and your comments are very valid!Apologies I note I only named 12 there

Chill. Jofra will snip the tail end off tomorrow morning.
We will trudge toward 290-300 target and win it by 3 wickets.
Relax.

I’ve been saying for a while that we should be getting Shagger Curran in the team. Incredible act of sabotage from the selectors. The Swan correct as per usual.

Why make derogatory remarks about a person you probably don't even know. The mind boggles at people like you !! Derogatory? He’s widely known as that as a compliment. Swan’s mind pictures the following scene: ONLOOKER: You look like you’re having fun SHROPSHIRELAD42: Vile and derogatory abuse, how dare you say that. The mind boggles you imbecile. ONLOOKER: Woah, steady on. I was being nice. SHROPSHIRELAD42: I don’t give a gentleman’s toss. You’re a specimen and no mistake. It’s high time you were exterminated.

102.2 overs - WICKET
Buttler run out 1 (Eng 253-6)
Implosion.
This is a real shambles, and the Ashes are booking an aisle seat for their flight back to Sydney. Ben Stokes nudges the ball away, there's never a run there, Travis Head underarms and clips th ebase of leg stump and Buttler is out.
