I'm genuinely gutted by this, I think Payne is the most natural finisher we have especially if playing with only one up front.... We have no other proven goalscorer at football league level I really hope we have a big player coming in [/quote Payne, Morris and Lewis last season were average at best. Rodman and whalley bailed them all out.

Well the No 9 shirt didn’t last very long on him, looked in good shape on Saturday. Big fan of Payne, so not too happy about this - didn’t think we needed to cash in any more.

Agree but he was still our top scorer and at present looks our main threat if played in a striker position...if it's 400k far to good to turn down just hope with all the additional money we have we bring in another scorer preferably someone who can run in frombehind

I didn't rate him either as others said I also thought he was lazy. Yes he could on occasion score a goal, but remember we usually only scored one goal for most of last season. He was useful to bring on as a sub late on, but I'm not too phased by this. It looks like we've got a decent attacking side and if we can get a good striker in then that could only be good for us. But we didn't win anything! In the tough games that mattered they didn't turn up - was that the players, manager or both? If players aren't giving their all then I think JA is right to replace them. Although as I've said before I'm sorry to see Bryn Morris leave.

Ryan Jervis is gonna have to start reading the team out half a hour before kick off at the next home game, what with all these ‘big Shropshire welcomes’!!

A funny one this, but despite his goals I’ve always thought Payne was generally quite s**te. He never looked like a thorn in anyone’s side and never did you feel great expectation when bringing him off the bench. He always seems to be struggling for form. He started off excellently here, and I really thought once he bagged away at Rotherham that he’d be a 20 goal man, but remarkably he went the other way from that point on.
Seems good money considering Askey seems to consider him left of a front three & none of us want him playing there.
Huge player turnover but when you consider 2 star players handed in requests, 3 rejected new deals & great loanees went back there’s not a lot the club could do about it. I still think we have an exciting squad.

He can go, plenty more like him about. Had he scored against W Ham when he had a sitter to dispatch I'd be disappointed.

Got to laugh at Bristol Rovers fans getting too excited on twitter it’s absolutely hilarious and if we get £400k for him it would be even more hilarious.
Will never forget his winning goal at the death at Rotherham and Deano jumping into the crowd. One of the best moments of my Town supporting life for me.

I believe if 'The Shop' had been less lazy marking we'd beaten them on spot kicks with the form Deano was in.
Hall of Shame awaits my son.....
Biggest game in decades and he has that always on his STFC 'CV'.
Sorry he is s**te.
Must do better son....

High probability that there will be two maybe more out the door before the cut off on thursday, certainly keeping us on our toes all this !! Jules and Hendrie? Neither were in the 18 on Saturday. Jones is another possible and I wouldn't rule out Beckles either.

400k? Had to accept that really (we got 600k for Goldson).
Shankland was with St Mirren when Brian Caldwell was there.

It's just a change formation and football philosophy. We are going from a rigid 4-5-1, to a more open and flexible 4-3-3.
JA might think that Payne and Morris don't fit that system and I think he's right.

£400k would be about 3x what he is worth. If it’s anywhere near that, very happy to take it rather than carry a ‘leading striker’ who can’t play for more than an hour

Would you say this to his face? Let's see how he plays when given the chance. He was a squad player last year and will be again - and it is likely he will make some important contributions. I As for his tracking of Wood for Rotherham's winning goal, the least said the better. It seems (to me) that was what caused a this dislike of him as a player to really ignite.

Have we got enough cash together yet to put in a very cheeky offer for Waghorn to break the chain?😜

I’m sorry, but have I missed something. Where are these figures coming from regards the transfer fee??

Very odd. For me he was the one player who did possess pace, and strength. Fourteen goals from a striker who was played either up front alone or wide, is a good tally. Remember, most of the season he was played as a late sub for Morris. Ground hog day every #Saturday, Morris off, Payne on. We have strikers left who , to put it bluntly, are Conference standard at best. Let’s hope AA spends big, and spends well, on a top , proven goal- scorer. We need him.

Surprised so many people are that bothered. I don’t dislike Payne, but I don’t think he’s any better then an average L1 striker. He’s got a goal in him, poachers goals, but he’s not overly good an any particular area, didn’t hold the ball up as well as Morris, isn’t particularly quick or skilful, generally an all round decent player but average at best for this division and replaceable.
Always ran his socks off so credit to him for that, even Saturday out of position he did so, also scored from important goals for us so I thank him and wish him well, but I don’t think we’ll struggle without him, all the best Stefan.
Little edit, only just read through every message and seen the 400k quote, if that’s true it’s impossible to not accept that, I would have been very happy with half that amount.

How often have we seen Payne in a front two playing off the big man...always thought he would look a better player in a front two.

The lazy comments are a bit harsh but if we’ve had an decent offer for him then I’d rather take a chance on someone new. Other than a bit of a scoring spree at the start of last season, he’s looked very unconvincing since. Good luck Stefan. COYB

Yeah, I’m sure we have something lined up, I’m actually more excited by the fact we’re willing to let him go as you’d like to think that means we have a plan in place to replace him, time will tell.
