Not bothered as never convinced by him as a striker.
Makes you think the team bonding in Spain was a waste of time and money as most of next week’s team will have come since then!

Now I'm baffled. First Bryn, now Payne. Why did we play him on the wing on Saturday? That seems even stranger now. Not necessarily a bad move if we get a decent fee for a player out of contract next summer BUT there had better be someone good coming in. It feels like we've lost our bearings at the moment. I hope Askey knows the strategy! Perhaps and just a wild arsed guess is that was Askey's original plan, but this offer coming was good enough to change them....

If it wasn't for his penalties, his scoring radio would be pants.
AM? FM? DAB? Never could tell with Payne.

Certainly a case of a new broom. Seems a bit late in the day to get a decent replacement before window closes. Does seem a bit of a reactive approach rather than proactive to transfer deals. Still guess JA has a cunning plan👿

He should get a decent reception wherever he ends up!! Maybe they see him on the same wavelength as Rodman?! Working on the same frequency!

I’m not bothered he’s going, can’t play as the spearhead as he can’t keep the ball, hence why he wasn’t first choice last year. Nothing has changed, he’s also too moody and takes it out onto the pitch. Agree we need another striker who will take the pressure off Holloway, who I like and will score goals.

Hang on, Nolan and Nsiala deals were expected to be done within 48 hours - 72 hours ago! What's the hold up?
Meanwhile, Morris and Payne have gone.
One in, presumably four out. Who's next out the door - Whalley? Beckles? Sadler?
#lovethisteam? Love what team?
Oh well …..

I'm genuinely gutted by this, I think Payne is the most natural finisher we have especially if playing with only one up front.... We have no other proven goalscorer at football league level I really hope we have a big player coming in

Can we please have a pacey striker who can run in behind, instead of all these like for like target men that have struggled to score consistently?

Must be one coming in. I don’t count John-Lewis as a viable option He shouldn't even be here!

An 11 goal a season striker is far from an irreplaceable loss. If the rumoured £400,000 fee is true, it represents a good bit of business for a player with one year remaining on their contract.

And I hoped this would be a tough season avoiding 5-1 tankings at Brentford!

Bloody hell?! The gas fans are creaming their pants over the prospect of signing Payne!! And him linking back up with Rodman..
The fee is being reported as £400k
Snap their bloody hand off if that’s true

I wonder what the clubs policy is with players who only have one year left on their contract?
With the exception of the last few years there have not been many players who have any sell on value, there have probably been more who we have had to pay off.
With Ogogo and Brown lost for free will we be adapting to the approach taken by other clubs - that anyone in the last year of their contract is available for transfer unless they sign a new contract.
Or is it that Payne just not happy playing on the wing / the experiment did not work

Bid of £150k from an English Club for Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland who has already scored 9 goals this season. I wonder....

High probability that there will be two maybe more out the door before the cut off on thursday, certainly keeping us on our toes all this !!

We'll be clearing out players we signed in June at this rate! £400k for Payne would be an offer we couldn't refuse though. Find that figure hard to believe but I hope it's true.

He was a squad player last year and will be again - and it is likely he will make some important contributions. I certainly wouldn't say that to LJL's face, He's a barn door of a bloke and could probably deck anyone. But my interpretation of a squad player is someone who does at least start a game at some point during the season, rather than appearing in the last few minutes to either help close a game out (quite successful) or to chase the game (mainly unsuccessful). 34 appearances off the bench without one League start must surely be some sort of record. As for his tracking of Wood for Rotherham's winning goal, the least said the better.

Ain't half got a funny feeling, a premonition if you will, that if things were to go tits up this season a fair few our our support will comfort themselves in that we "got a good deal". Really am at a loss to what we are seeing here. One of the most successful sides we have ever had gone for a Burton in a matter of weeks and right back to square one. Appreciate the new chap would want to put his own mark on the squad but...
