Hi All
Just like to say hi to everyone on here as I only found out about this forum by a friend who I go most games with 🤔 Thanks for telling me Pete.
This is my view on the season right now.
The squad looks weaker than last year.
I totally agree that we need more quality and some players need moving on but these players have proved they can compete in league 1 as they kept us up this year and if not for some back luck toward end of the season we could've been closer to mid table.
The signing we've made are just pathetic, we've signed 2 strikers which 1 of them average 1goal in 10 games and the other 1goal in 8 games.
We have signed 2 players who've never played adult football and are a risk to a club who's going to be fighting relegation (with the currant squad) and in a league 1 this season which looks very strong, so why don't we use our academy if this is the case in wanting to play young players (makes sense surely🤔) I don't think theres going to be one person who says why don't we loan someone from Norwich under 23s or what ever under 23 club it is are they if we are doing bad.
What we are in desperate need of is a proven goal scorer, someone who's got an average of 1goal in 3/4 games, I personally think we should be looking further afield then the players who have been released by league 1/2 clubs and looking for the next pay check, and signs on a 2 year deal and everyone slags off after the first 3/4 months by saying he's doesn't look interested.
Whats going to get everyone believing in this manager and players if they decided to grab the bull by the horns and show the rest of league 1 that we are not going to sign the same old Sh** but instead showing everyone we mean business because that's why we all pay to watch are team is because we believe we can achieve more because if this isn't the case then no wonder the players lose faith because if the club isn't ambitious then how can you expect the player to be.
I personally think the recruitment so far has been lazy and predictable so I hope that we show some ambition over the next week and bring in a player we are all excited about.
Lets get a striker in that clubs say how did they get him, let's look abroad 💪👍

Please explain the signings we've made are better than the ones from last season Have a look at the strikers left who are free agents👍 We've signed 4 players which 2 of them we can't sell if we decide to play them and haven't played mens football and signed 2 other players which 1 couldn't get into Newports team and one who scored 7/8 goals in conference. Haha I suppose I'm looking at this the wrong way am I? We beat ebbsfleet who was in conference south last year and now we're are going to be mid table material.

Lets get a striker in that clubs say how did they get him, let's look abroad 💪👍 Great first post you'll fit in well 🤡 Supporting Shrewsbury Town is unlike supporting any other team! Manager shows a bit of a sparkle in his first season so is given free range to sign whoever he wants but on a limited budget. We usually end up with a string of journey men, get excited and then are let down by a bunch of mercenaries....Manager moves on its all all a bit different under PH, he brings in hungry players who have shown promise in academies then fail to make it at the level they'd hoped and slip down to the basement division or below.... PH sees some evidence of hard work so gives them a chance to prove themselves.... So the worst we can look forward to is a relegation struggle / relegation and new manager half way through the season, whilst there's a chance the signings come good, we discover some gems, move on sell for big bucks.... What we don't want is a mediocre season of mid table security with nothing to moan about and nothing to look forward to... In PH we trust, we have to it's his job on the line but we'll be here next year

We were all up for a great season this time last year with MMs league one ready players. He got it wrong as did we. In Hurst we trust. Rubbish thread which does nobody any good at a time when there is a feel good feeling around the club

Five of last years 2nd Year Youth team players were given Pro deals by PH which is unheard of at Salop. In recent years it's been 1 or 2 max. Ryan Barrnet was signed to a Pro contract last season in his 1st year and went to Portugal last week. Also with the squad in Portugal was another youth player, Christos Sielis, who is a Cyprus Youth International and joined the club towards end of last season. www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2017/july/ramsay-excited-by-academy-prospects/

People talk as if proven goalscorers, who are within our budget and within our range in terms of our clubs size, are readily available and jumping at the chance of joining Shrewsbury, if only it were that easy.

Over the years Shrewsbury have signed a large number of proven strikers who were at different times in their career were regarded as prolific. Prolific until they came to Shrewsbury. These players had achieved success by having the support of the midfielders and wingers who played to their strengths. A particular example was John Dungworth signed from Aldershot for 100K, Jamie Cureton, Tyrone Barnett, Liam Mcalinden etc etc. Why having a quality midfield and tricky wingers enables the job of a striker to become easier and if more goals are scored by midfielders who are not frightened to have a shot on goal then that means less pressure on the strikeforce that we employ.

Don't you see a problem with the signings of these 4 plasters? 2 have never played men's football - you're telling me we've gone all the way down to Norwich and Swansea and scouted these players? No we get offered them and we take them when we clearly have talented youngster of out own. The 2 strikers - 1 couldn't even get a game for Newport and has a ration of 1-10 and you think this is going to change now he's 28? The other one hasn't done anything and only played 16 times in the conference. What I'm trying to say is get our young players in and look abroad instead of lazy recruitment, which these 4 players are. The mentality of the person above just proves you're happy with each season over these last number of years 👍. Look around over the last 2/3 seasons at clubs who've signed foreign players, why couldn't we sign these sort of players? All these players would walk into are team, instead we sign under 23 players when we have our own and sign dead wood or players who haven't proved anything.

All these players would walk into are team, instead we sign under 23 players when we have our own and sign dead wood or players who haven't proved anything. Last season PH was criticised for signing young players such as Tyler Roberts on loan when we had our own young players here such as Ethan Jones. Paul said the reason was that Tyler was miles ahead of the likes of Ethan, he was proved to be completely correct so fair play to him. If he believes the young lads from Norwich and Swansea are far superior to our own youngsters, then we have to trust him as he was spot on last time. As for the strikers we have signed, the only thing you seem to be interested in is their goals to games ratio, which is nonsense, it's about what they offer to the team. I hate this argument of 'go out and sign a proven goalscorer'. How? Where are the proven League One goalscorers who are within our budget and are willing to play for Shrewsbury? Where are they? If it were that easy we'd have 3 or 4 on board every season but it isn't. We have to work within our means, take risks with some players, and score goals throughout the team instead of relying on one player. The other thing you mention is about the young lad from Kiddy who hasn't played at this level previously. I think it's a cracking signing and this is why, he would have cost us bugger all to bring here, if he works we've picked out a gem for pennies, if it doesn't it's very low risk, how many players come from non league then go from strength to strength up the football league, it happens all the time especially at the likes of Peterborough. How can PH win in your book? Signs young lads from higher division who will have plenty of enthusiasm and you criticise, sign young lads from lower divisions at low risk and you critisize, sign 'journeymen' with experience and you're not happy with that either, the only thing you'd be happy with is a proven League One goalscorer, all of which are way out of our price range!

Untried before we had him. Toto? Berated by the relegated Hartlepool. Whalley? Played at Tinpot 2 seasons before we signed him. Morris? Under 23 with little experience. Roberts and even Toney? Under 23s with nothing proved, but scored some very important goals to save us in their brief times here. I could go on. You'd rather have lovely foreigners? What about El Abd, Grandin and Moha?

You seem to put massive trust into Paul👍Well done. I haven't said fill the team with foreign players, what I'm trying to say is we could get our scouting more wide spread. We've signed more youngsters to the first team which is good from our academy 👍Great job I've criticised the 4 signing because I think it's lazy, and it is. The 2 players from under 23 teams haven't been scouted they've been offered there's a difference. The other 2 strikers says it all really 1 year contracts, no faith in the players because same again haven't been scouted, been offered, lazy recruitment. So we have 4 players that in my opinion shouldn't have been signed and if they are to be signed then yes maybe at a later date if they're the only ones left because trust me these 4 players we've signed would still be there in a months time. If you look and do some research into the football industry and look at the free agent around Europe I'm sure through last year we could have made links with agents/scouts isn't this what clubs do? Well it's what ambitious clubs do, I understand we're not a big pay club but there's been some good signings in league 1/2 from around Europe but we haven't touched the market.

Lamela 2 years to adapt properly and hasn't peaked after 4, Soldado, Bebé, Feghouli, etc. It takes time to adapt, if they do indeed adapt. How long do we give these players because with 1 year contracts we're most likely to just be binning them off after they've wasted wages and ruined our league position.

Sure enough, they struggled as soon as the weather turned cold, got most of their Mediterranian superstars out of the team, but happily still fell through the trapdoor. We will be fine, PH has seen these new players several times - have you? Remember Toto was supposed to be a donkey at Hartlepool and Whalley was supposedly a flop at Luton

I'm telling you honestly and straight, these players haven't been watched, you really believe what's being said? There's clubs a lot closer to Shrewsbury who would say exactly the same about their under 23 players. The industry is about who's getting offered to the club? Theres not many clubs who will take a player from someones under 23 team with no experience in adult football, why do you think they've been offered to Shrewsbury? Because we're one of a few who're stupid to play other clubs players with no experience, why don't we put trust in our own? We've signed a few more up this season and I hope we all agree are players should be on the pitch before any other clubs under 23 players and if you don't agre to that then there's serious problems.

I'm not going to continue with the boring "we haven't watched them" but thought I'd pick up on this bit. Answer me this, last season would you prefer Tylor & Payne or Ethan & Kaiman? Based on your postI'm assuming it's the latter, if we went down that route I suspect that we would be facing L2 this coming season
