I have read the letter. Pretty thin excuse I agree. Still can't see though what this has to do with me being a Sovereign member Nothing at all. As so often people take things personally instead of seeing the wider point.

Where have I said it's acceptable for no one from the club to attend? I havn't. Were you under the impression that MM, players etc would attend, if so that was wrong. You are turning this around, all I have done is defend my position as a supporter, nothing else. And where have I said the directors etc are exclusive to the Sovereign? Again I havn't. The point is the Chairman and directors spend most of the time in the company of the opposition directors and very little time in the Sovereign Suite. I didn't mean to continue this but MM was due to attend hence being given the chance to choose the date that was convenient. I was on the OSC coach to Walsall and Simon of the OSC definitely said MM and players would be in attendance and encouraged fans to attend.... Read Brians embarrassed response to a fans question.... It was more what you didn't say We would appreciate your view?

After a poor show at last seasons awards evening form a promotion winning side we were told to give more notice to club so as it could be better attended by the players. I believe good notice was given and players were told on day of event. I did say MM would be there and a full complement of players because the night was moved to a Tuesday to allow this to happen. This evening must have a full overhaul to get the interest back and make fans want to attend the next one. It's on agenda for May SP meeting.

Absolutely no excuse from the club for this - the players have an obligation in their contract for "community appearances" the club should have instructed them to be present and as for Mellon not turning up, I believe he was smashed on Sunday night and wants out

Bizzy is of course right. I'm guessing that we have around 2,500 fans who turn up whatever and around 500 who regularly go away. Personally, I can only afford to go to home games and have nothing but respect for those who spend their hard earned going away. There are many other leisure choices we can all make for our entertainment and the club, just like any other business, should NEVER take that custom for granted.
I do think the SP really needs to lay this on thick at the next meeting and not be afraid to do so, it is unacceptable, and I don't think fans are asking for too much.
As a side note, I do think that MM as a 'new manager' would have attended and would've walked over hot coals to do so. But a couple of years down the line something has changed IMO. I watched his demeanour in the last home game and it was if the world was on his shoulders, head down, feet shuffling, bored. I can't say I've noticed it before but happy enough that this isn't an issue if people think this is his 'normal' behaviour.
Gut feel says I think Swindon is his last game, and he's had enough.

Bizzy - Whitters is overpaid and is useless at best, Walsall do not have 10 in their department so don't get conned he is busy - the majority of the programme is provided by external contributors so can't see why he claims he is so busy, although the Board (guffaw) may have told him not to promote and cover the very people who pay his wages awards night.

I have made this point before and I will make it again.
The Community team is somewhat separate to the club and a charity and has done amazing work... that's helped in one sense to reconnect the club to a lot of the county and hopefully try to secure our future fan base and encourage more in...
What the club have not released is this has not at all effected the existing fans who during this same time period have once again become more detached from the fan base through either getting p**sed off at the existing issues, annoyed by the several PR gaffs, or just not interacted with at all.... No chance to meet players or manager, no real bond between the fans and manager/players other than 90 minutes football every week (less for the majority of fans who only watch home games)
This is an issue that's on the Sp agenda for next week, and i encourage anyone who cares about the issue to come along. Its key the club realism that the community work is not the end of the game... its got to look at ways of engaging with the fan base that exists.

Strong words that and in my opinion out of order. Easy of course to slag someone off whilst sitting behind a keyboard.

I'd happily tell Whitters to his face - like you I am entitled to my opinion and looking at the output of the STFC media team against clubs of similar size and resource - I would suggest we are not great. To once again not promote the Supporters Awards night is simply unacceptable - we don't get the basics right which must be a cause for concern for everyone.

As a matter of interest did you delete you account 'salopianmagic' during the infamous training ground thread or was it deleted for you? If the former was there a reason to do with the thread?

Like everyone else at STFC towers he can only publish or promote what Roland lets him and Roland had no interest in the fans award evening.... As you know.

Based on fact mate - happy for Mr Whitfield to contact me and I will highlight his short falls direct to him, but he doesn't care and neither do people at the GM who seem to be content with second best.

I have no idea who you think I am and I don't confess to be in the know, all I know is that the output from the club in comparison to other clubs of a similar size is second best. Perhaps if more people got involved in the SP and challenged the club we might then get a better environment for us to watch our football in and a more proactive approach to supporters and their requirements.

Next meeting is 7pm Prince of Wales next Tuesday mate...
Look forward to seeing you there, your view would be most welcome and communication from the club is an issue the SP have and continue to champion as an area for improvement.
Hard on Whits though, and i'm in the camp (and having sat in there last week) that two people taking on all they have to do is a lot and they need help. For example, the new club website shop, vast improvement, and something that even though its not a PR thing and you would expect a outside company would have done but was all done by Whits. Its not just that they are dealing with media and a club website and all the youtube video packages and socials media they also have a lot of the IT jobs to sort which is not purely a PR part of the job.
A big improvement to the club right now over this summer would to be expand the team working with Whits I reckon... he could get way more done and way more efficiently.

It would have been nice to see an apology on Shrewsweb. Even a whoops I'm sorry would have done. Instead - nothing.

I always park down on Bell Vue road and walk up, but there are spaces at the pub if you get lucky.

It may be a daft question but has any trust been broken by sharing the reply on a public forum? Was Brian aware that you were going to do that?
I am trying to be a devil's advocate a little but trust works both ways and if he was not aware that it would be shared then he may have worded his reply differently. He may also have learned a lesson or two e.g. not to name people in replies and not to reply so quickly!
I agree that the club should be fully engaged and attend the poty awards and it was sloppy, poor, bad PR and almost inexcusable not to. Something they hopefully truely regret.
In regards the sovereign membership perks I guess that you make what you can out of them. By the sounds of it you do not get many 1-1s with clubs hierarchy unless you are proactive about it or have something to offer. Surprise surprise this is the same as everyone else but maybe with a better chance of it happening because you chose to be in his vicinity. I also question why anyone expects the chairman to tour the ground and meet everyone?
An open question to those who feel they should have more access to the clubs hierarchy, have you tried to discuss your concerns with them? I am not talking about if you got the answers you wanted but how responsive are they?
The deal itself does not sound to expensive with exception of the upfront cost - You get your seat, programme, car parking if lucky and maybe some tea and coffee. Add this up and take into account the increased quality of location and facilities it is not bad - you may however have to defend you choice and shake off the stigma of making the choice to sign up :-)

Go as far as you can and you will find yourself just behind the bowling green . The gate to the green and pub is to your left. May be a few cars there on a Tuesday night as its a bowling night but you should have no problem parking p.s. Try the Three Tuns Mild , it's spot on .

I published my letter as well as a balance.

My only real gripe with the club over this is that they didnt even bother to advertise this on the offical club website, its as if the posh awards nights takes all the glory and sod the fans who spend alot of money on the club travelling hundreds n hundreds of miles across the country watching lets face it a very average team at the moment plus the money raised by the Super Blues n OSC .. The club have gone in the right direction with the comnunity aspects especially the heartwarming Meadow Memories project and visits to The Uplands brought a tear to the eye, but they drag themselves down with episodes like this and the memorial garden etc .. Come on Town us geniene fans deserve better ... I know that the money may be handy, but it really sticks in my gut that the main celebratory end of season event is handed over to the corporate side of the club. This could be an opportunity to say thanks to the fans that Bizzy correctly identifies. And how about something that players might actually want to go to, rather than just feel contractually obligated? An award presented in the company of people who travelled the season with you and shared all the pain and the joy might mean an awful lot more.

So Ghostofsalopianmagic is either;
a) Matt Williams (unlikely)
b) A close relative of Matt Williams (probably just as unlikely)
c) An old drinking buddy of Matt Williams from when he lived in town (highly likely as he had a few)
d) Ratcliff's ghost under a new name.

I guess ghostofsalopianmagic is his reincarnation but I'm sure he'll tell us who he is if wa ask? He was prepared to confront Whitters after all .
