What the hell has any of this got to do with me??
Did I organise it....... no Did I have any input into the night...... no..... apart from asking why the club hadn't advertised it, and asking if Jamie was going so me and GP could give him an award.
Was it disappointing? Yes.....Will I discuss that with Brian through the SP...... if asked to, yes....... but again it wasn't my evening.
At this point i don't think its wise for me to say much more other than that without people like me, Glynn, Rog, Martin, Chris and the many others involved in the SP we would be wearing a strip no one liked, a clip art lion on our shirts and every fan would be paying more on a match day.

Mellon obviously doesn't give a damn about the fans, all the fist clenching and waving when he's got a big away following is just a front.

personally not sure what everyone's problem is players were given time off and after a tough season the manager deserves a rest. They can have as much rest as they want from 3pm next Sunday In my opinion they have rested from 3pm on most Saturday's since August.

Which players didn't turn up?
Why can't the club just do one evening in the Town Centre in a bigger venue?
Both posh and us fans can go.

Didn't Dunbavin years ago rock up and won a Blue and Amber award and say it was the "geeks" award or something along them lines?

Seems the club made the relevant parties aware and it's their fault no one was told. Think the osc and superblues have done everything they could. Can I ask who Mike Davies is? I know he's not osc but if he's a fan rep he should have let people know the manager wasn't attending. Sick of people like this letting the fan base down. Is he on here? If so what's his excuse for not letting people know? Deserve a rest? For finishing just above relegation and loosing a massive number of home games! It was a night out not an assault course! Also can I ask why you see fit to take swipes at other fans? Whilst swallowing the clubs line without question...

Mr Caldwell's excuses remind me of 'the dog ate my homework'. There were remarks on the congratulations to Leicester thread to the effect that having foreign owners and lots of money wasn't real football. The inference being that clubs like ours are 'real'. Having a local man owning the club, a situation in which the fans make a significant contribution to the continued existence of the club via gate money, fundrasing and volunteering their time to help appears to make no difference to the attitude of the owner and his staff towards the fans. Makes me wonder where reality lies. It would have been more believable if Caldwell had used the tried and tested club excuse: unfortunately Micky is in a lockup which is only open at weekends.

You are the wind up merchant !!!! [br I'm not winding anyone up. It's a legitimate question. Osc and superblues give a lot of money to the club why do others get involved. "others" get involved because they want to try and address the many issues the club face...because we love the club. As stated above "others" got that ridiculous clipart disaster reversed meaning people actually buy STFC merch now, they are opening up a dialog with the club to try & improve the match day experience (we've lost nearly 10% of our support in 6 years!), they are looking at improving supporter cooperation between the different groups and are working to keep OUR club afloat given we can't attract any investors. What have YOU personally done to help our club move forward and improve? Or do ylj think everything is just fine and your one of those narrow minded people who only cares about what happens on the pitch?

Here is my letter and the reply. Credit to Mr. Caldwell for a prompt response but make of it what you will! Hi Sheila Many thanks for your email, i am always grateful for any feedback good or bad. Hopefully i can explain a little of the background to last night. I had spoken to Micky a few weeks ago to select a date that would be best for him and the players to be there. As it turned out he picked last night assuming with the game being on Sunday this week, players be off Monday and train Tuesday. However with the events at the weekend Micky decided to give the players extra time and he went to Blackpool to spend a few days with his family. I personally couldn’t make last night but with the intended date selected to suit Micky and the players being there i hadn’t thought that would be an issue but unfortunately due to the results at the weekend and the training plan changing this has affected everything. I had explained Micky’s situation to Chris Smith and Mike Davis but assume this message hasn’t been passed on. With regard to Jamie receiving an award, hopefully this was explained at the evening as Jamie came down with a sickness bug on Monday night as he was planning to be there until this affected him and he was off yesterday (and still off sick today) I do agree however that in future we need to learn from this and ensure there is a better turn out of Coaching staff and players. Regards Brian Brian Caldwell Chief Executive Shrewsbury Town FC Greenhous Meadow Oteley Road Shrewsbury SY2 6ST brian.caldwell@shrewsburytown.co.uk www.shrewsburytown.comwww.facebook.com/ShrewsburyTownFC/Twitter:@shrewsweb Tel: 01743 289177 Fax: 01743 246972 Dear Mr. Caldwell, I feel compelled to write to you regarding the fans' event yesterday evening. This is event is organised by the fans for the fans and involves quite a lot of hard work particularly on the part of one person, Chris Smith, who does a lot of work on behalf of the fans and also runs the Superblues Club, a fund raiser for the club. It was good to see quite a few of the players in attendance although three of the award winners were absent. One, I presume, had no choice as his home club had asked for his return. However, it was a pity that he couldn't stay to meet some very grateful supporters. Our captain and the others did outstanding jobs in collecting the awards for the absentees. However, my main reason for writing is the complete absence at the evening of any of the non playing staff. For the second year running, neither the manager nor his assistant were there and, I am sorry to say, neither were you. Last year, at least your predecessor was in attendance. Even a member of staff who was to receive an award was absent although the person sent in his place did an admirable job. Throughout this somewhat difficult season, we have been continually congratulated as fans for 'keeping the faith', supporting the manager, the club and the team, through thick and thin. Last night was the ideal opportunity for some of these words to be put into action and appreciation shown in person. Words mean absolutely nothing without the actions to follow them. The supporters who attended last night were the hard core home and away fans. Many of whom have travelled long distances and spent small fortunes to support our team. We are not the type of people to be rude to members of staff at a social function or to abuse them in any way. We all appreciate what a difficult season this has been. In my opinion, in the absence of an official club representative, it was quite appalling that our compère had to thank us all for the evening and the awards. Also, I presume that, as no member of staff was there to report on the event, they will be very little about it on Shrewsweb. Another sad oversight I feel. On a personal note, I would be very grateful if you would pass on my best wishes to Mickey Demitriou who, in spite of what I will call a not very good year, was there last night and picked up an award for an absentee. His manner, demeanour and the way he answered the questions put to him were very dignified and beyond reproach. He should have a good future when his football career is finished. He stayed talking to the fans and the children who were there. I wish him every success in the future. I am sorry to have to write in this vein, but you did tell us that, if you don't know about our concerns, you can't address them. Yours sincerely,

Only 2 posts ever put up. Both totally sycophantic towards the Club on a thread highly critical of the failure of the Club to respond adequately to last night's meeting. VERY suspicious.

Still I'm sure the people who turned up in the hospitality areas will back the club in the future and I'm sure that when another seasons losses are posted in 12 months and gates continue to fall the club will still still rely upon a shrinking corporate market.......before coming begging to the regular supporters who actutally prop the club up. Corporate hospitality is a once a season deal to be fair for most "clients" and lets be honest what can we offer than Wolves, Villa etc don't already do (just....well, better). We obviously need the extra income from these occasional customers (the people who routinely back the club like Greenhous are town fans anyway) but the way the club has failed to tap into/ignore the extra income from the 90% of matchday attendees is a real blunder.

Oh dear yet another one of the clubs nice easy tap in PR goals turning into them kicking themselves in the head and staggering round dazed for a week
Sad thing is these sort of cock ups come as no surprise and most fans just get on with it, but with each mistake I'm sure a few walk away and don't come back

Feel very sorry for Chris Smith who has done so much for many years for our club and has not been in the best of health. He more than anyone deserves a football club to be proud of but he must be very disappointed at the way fans are treated sometimes.

It's the hype of being told how great we are all season, particularly when things are going well, only for this complete thoughtlessness to happen that really bugs me. At the end of the day, the evening date was set to suit the club

Chris will feel very hurt by this. But being the person he is, he'll keep it to himself and act with a dignity that I couldn't muster.

I'm pretty sure most of them have at least once in their town career and if they haven't, someone else from the club has. Of course other managers have also held Q&A sessions giving the fans a chance to meet them.

Dare say most of them didn't turn up because KaiKai isn't at the club anymore.....I mean they hardly turned up to matches without him so why bother for a social do.

In a few years time I'm hoping to retire to Shropshire. Living close to Shrewsbury my plan would be to buy a season ticket but not only that I would want to get more involved with the community events, go for Sunday meals at the GM, go along to Q&A sessions etc. Have a beer or two in the social club (if we ever have one!)
When I read the above it does worry me that the sense of engagement that I will be looking for with the club may be by that time virtually non existent, apart from that they will be still happy of course to take my money for a season ticket.
Please STFC, let's not lose sight of the fact that you should always be more than just a corporate entity, you should be the life and soul of the community.

First time I've read this thread and have to say I'm staggered. Not so much by the attitude shown by the club, which seems to be the norm these days but by the fact that there are only 3 pages of replies when there should be 33.
One of my friends who is a season ticket holder with his young boy, and has supported the club through thick and thin for the last 40 years or so, told me on Saturday that he might not renew this season. He's just had enough of the whole experience. He probably will, but unless things improve dramatically over ths next year, on the pitch and off it, then I'm guessing he and many others will decide enough is enough.
The awards ceremonie(s)are surely a 'set in stone' part of the season? They should be as engrained into the club diary as the 46 matchdays, likewise so should the Open Day. There is simply no excuse and the ONLY reasons for this are the club taking fans for granted and not really giving a toss.

I am told by a Facebook reading friend that there plenty on there as well. I don't do Facebook so wouldn't know. Hopefully though if we add the two together there will be a lot of us.
I'm told there will be an Open day. I may say I will go but decide at the last minute to have a day off!!!
Agree anything involving the fans like the awards night should be written into the community contract they allegedly all have to follow and that goes for the management too.
