I used to go the awards evenings when they were held at the Lord Hill, if I remember correct it was £5 entry including a buffet and Monty (God Bless him) would keep the players amused all night with his 'beer balancing on the belly' antics. Great fun!

It starts at 7.30 and i think its £10 but you get a buffet.
The SP are presenting an award this year, but rather add to the list of player awards we have decided to do a STFC Employee of the year.....
If anyone is interested i'm living tweeting it on @b_and_A_Fanzine and I might actually do some live periscope of the night too.
God knows if any players will be there mind... might be a bit weird handing trophy's out to no one!

Quite a few players there but not all. No manager, assistant manager, chief exec, director or chairman though. Ryan thanked the fans on behalf of the club but I think he expected a club rep there to do it.
The players who were there were great though. Second year running with no sign of MM which considering he thinks we are all great supporters is a tad disappointing.

Did they line up 3 - 5 - 2, then change to 4 - 3 - 3, with a quick switch to 4 - 4 - 2?
I blame Jackson.

Would be great if the club realised that they have p**sed alot of the core STFC support off since moving.
Have noticed that the more expensive seats in the East stand look less and less popular each season and the exec boxes also look quite empty....Why a lower divison club needs a black tie end of season do I just do not know!
They can't make that much from it!
Surely it would be better to have a all in one event scheduled for a Saturday after the season has ended or after the last home game, make it inclusive and affordable - surely more people would turn up and the club might actually make some money by having people using the limited facilities at the club for a change! Rather than having an empty function room - like it is within an hour of the final whistle at most games.
Maybe the majority of people who cough up for season tickets aren't considered to be "ideal" customers by some at the club.
As it stands both events are not ideal as they are midweek, one is just not supported by the club and the other is just too expensive!

It certainly indicates a lot that is wrong with the attitude of the club....
Do we know if RW was present at the black tie event? The photo on Shrews Web showed a guy with medals on who I don't recognise but haven't seen at any away matches....
Wouldn't have expected Roland to turn up (true to form) but would have thought MM MJ and definitely Brian Caldwell to have been there..

I am wondering if it shows what they really think of us money paying customers. At least one of those three should have made the effort if not more. Matt Williams was there last year when I really did expect MM as we had been promoted.

I went to it for the first time last night to present an award.
I have to say this is no slight on the guys that have organised it, but i cant help feeling that the fans and the posh awards nights dont really cater for the fan base as a whole.
I dont know why we cant have one big night at the end of every season for say £5 max entry on the Saturday night after the last home game. Open up the sovereign sweet, a scruffy buffet, and go from there.... it would open the club up to be more welcoming and open to everyone.
Last night was a strange collection of players, poor Micky Demetriou was there, and was asked to collect an award and asked about his season and not playing. Poor guy looked down walking back to his place. That said I gained a hell of a lot of respect for him last night, despite his season he turned up, he did his duty and of all the players he stayed longest, talking to fans and giving his time over to people. I thought that was excellent. Whalley was also one who stayed a long time.
As for Micky not being there, but making the posh one, that something that I found very disappointing, considering some of the things he said about how important the fans are. The guy there are the ones that went home and away last season, and it was the perfect opportunitys to go thank them and be part of something for them. I cant help but feel that last night was another time where he lost a little more faith of some of the most hardcore fans we have.
As I said i was nothing to do with the organisation, so no idea if there are reasons that certain players, managers and chairman could not be there, but for the effort that the people there made this season and to organised the event, i thought it was a bit poor on them.
As a tangent, I have made my feelings know that despite the amazing community work the players and fans did last season, there is still a disconnect between the paying fans on a match day and the manager and players. A lot of STFC fans watch the game, go home and potentially listen to Mellon on the radio... that's it.... its been a long time since those barriers could be broken down for the general fan who's no affiliation to any group... no open day to meet anyone, no Q and As with the manager, and its something that I hope Micky looks to address next season and engages with the fans live as he does with the community work, as that's an important part of the community too...

shocked by last night. Showed to me everything wrong with the make up of the club and the complete lack of respect they have for the paying fan.
Poor Ryan even had to thank the fans as in his owns words 'no one else has turned up'!
I'm emailing the fans parliament as i really am totally ashamed of the club.
If they can't be bothered turning up maybe I won't bother renewing my season ticket after 40 years!! Maybe just maybe those kids there last night may also feel so let down and disappointed that it moulds their futures as fans!!
Shrewsbury town your a disgrace!!

You have highlighted everything I felt about last night. I have been to nearly every award evening since the early nineties and I am sure that previous managers have attended I do so agree with you about MD. I felt he was very dignified in his responses and, as you say, was there as part of his responsibilities while still on our books. However good or not good he may be as a footballer, as a person I have huge respect for him. I am definitely one of the hardcore fans who are rapidly losing faith in MM - so many bridges could have been built last night. All of the fans there were ones who would have loved the chance to talk about the season and the future - not in a nasty way but reasonably and possibly constructively. I also think Brian Caldwell missed a trick by not being there. The club agreed the date someone should have come. A lot of work goes into organising this event - such a disappointment for all concerned. Perhaps it is something the SP could address?

Is the Staff v Supporters match happening this year ? Dont think so, never happened last year...... I'm not part of the ASFC anymore though so cant give a reason as to why (there were play on the pitch sessions last and this season so nothing to do with pitch I guess) Real shame as they were a highlight of the season for me over the last 10 years.

This sounds like another own goal by the club, but doesn't really surprise me.
Full respect to Demetriou and the others who turned up.

I'm really disappointed to read that the manager, chairman and CEO were not at the event.
I assume that they were formally invited?
If so, I wonder why they did not attend?

I do hope the "club" read this message board . The comments made are measured and respectful. No effing and jeffing about the club but a very refined and considered resume of the night and the disappointment felt by those in attendance . Shrewsbury Town FC hang your head in shame . These are the very fans who turn up through all weathers to places far and wide to support their beloved club . What do you do ?You ignore them ,treat them as if they are not worth bothering with and show a total and utter lack of respect . What the club fails to realise is that others read this board , supporters relate their experience in pubs, clubs and elsewhere and those who may be tempted to come and support theTown possibly decide that it isn't for them . Sounds a bit far fetched but I have spoken to quite a few who have said they refuse to handover their hard earned as the club doesn't give a toss about the fans. Can't really argue when you read the comments about the other nights debacle. Sometimes you feel that you have to defend the club , make excuses because you hate to see something that you care about maligned and rubbished . At times the club make it very hard!

Absolutely disgusting with the attitude of the club from the chairman down with the lack of attendance. A club without fans is nothing and they should be reminded of that.
As for Mellon he thanked the fans in a recent interview for not getting on his back during a season, that let's be honest most managers would of been forced out by the fanbase, so a couple of hrs at a award ceremony should be mandatory. Shocking!!

If this is the attitude from the club towards us,may I put forward a complete boycott of the club shop etc, I was heading there to purchase one or two things for my holiday and some gifts for someone, would of easily been over £100 spent....forget it.
Hurt them in the pocket folks, WE ARE THE HEART AND SOUL of the club, start treating us with respect!

I would actually go further than that.
The chairman has shown since our move he is totally out of his depth when it comes to dealing with the fans
-badge change no one wanted and nearly 10 years to resolve -kit no one wanted -the want for blue and white over blue and Amber -the movement of the club away from the every day fan to the corporate sponsor who may attend 1/2 games a season -revolving door of staff and CEOs -lack of involvement and support from major shareholders
For me it's time the chairman goes!! I'm sure if he does what he has always said he would and doesn't sell us down the river and asks a sensible price, someone with the clubs interests at heart will be interested!!
Time for a change at the top or at very least a change in mentality
