Well done Stokes - deserves to stay in the team as a batsman at least, and with Moeen and Wood both picking up wickets then we can probably afford to keep him as a 5th seamer, too. Great aggression.

20 runs off a Southee over, and the 100 partnership brought up with just 19 runs from Cook and (so far) 77 for Stokes. Brilliant.

Yet another ridiculous over (just the one six) as Stokes smashes one of the world's finest bowlers off the park and really accelerates us away; even a chance we could win this match. Closing in on the fastest Lord's test century - needs 6 off 6 to do so.

And he's done it! 100 off 85 balls, fastest in tests at Lords.

What a great advert today's play was for test cricket. The innings of Ben Stokes today wouldn't have been lost in the IPL. Great credit to England for setting up a very interesting final day tomorrow.

It just goes to show English cricket isn't at the rock bottom low the people in some quarters would have you believe.

Root is turning into a modern day English Bradman - ridiculously consistent! And I'm delighted that Cook has made me look foolish in such a fantastic manner. Stokes won't come off every time but he is showing that he can be our really aggressive, destructive hitter in the middle order. I assume (and hope) Lyth will be given another go in the second test to see if he can show us what he can do. Bell's form is a worry though.

Brilliant stuff Yep - think his 50 came up from 56 balls, which means the next 50 29. Incredible. 37 off 12 Southee deliveries is disgusting, hardly like they were bad balls - real privilege to be a lazy arse student and have a long enough summer to sit and watch today's batting! Just wish I could have been there; think my first ever attendance at a cricket game has to happen soon.

I can't wait for Headingley next week. Going to days 2 and 3, hopefully watching England close in on a 2-0 series win!

Cook gone to DRS Overturn...Love the use of DRS with the viewer able to hear the third umpire explain his decision.

Agreed, cracking CV, but Strauss was adamant that one of Moores' main failings was the fact he had never played International cricket, well neither has Bayliss. Also Gillespie surely has a better understanding of the players within the English system?
I think the focus seems to be on transforming the one day side of things from the ECB. One thing for sure is that Strauss and co at the ECB are getting a little peeved by all these leaks before things are confirmed.....Strauss appointment, Moores Sacking and now Bayliss.
That said Strauss is one of the few I would trust to find the right man.......so good Luck Trevor.....

161/5 - 30 overs to go. Time for a hero to step up, draw still the favourite result. What a cracking pitch for test cricket this is. Oh and what a cracking weekend to choose to help the in laws move into their new place, I've only seen about 35 overs of the best test match in years!!!

It is quite a turn around for England. I wouldn't have given them a chance in the first three and a half days.

GREAT advert for test cricket.
One of the most entertaining test matches of recent times.
Played in an excellent spirit throughout.
