Shocking to find out about this.
But how do they plan to catch the perpetrators?

The luton fans started chanting your welsh. (Meaning they dont belive were english) Quite rich when you think of all the different nationalities that live there. I think thats all the shrewsbury fans ment , it was more aimed at all luton fans as if to say how can you chant that

Sorry if this has been mentioned only read the first 2 pages. To just point out on the sheep shagger chant is not racist because being Welsh is not a race but a nationality. Its like the Australians calling us 'poms'. Though unkind Sheep shagger does not make racism. However singling a man out because his skin colour meaning he must be from the middle east and therefore the chant implied he was an illegal immigrant. Although there are less people of asian apperance in Shrewsbury I can tell you from the last year at University and collegues at work in Birmingham this sort of behaviour is not on and those who started this chant do not deserve to watch the Town play. Then why did somebody get done for racism because he called someone a sheep shagger? Read the rest of the thread and the other one I think their is a link to the story.

But it wont stop the old bitter brigade claiming we have a racism pandemic in this town all because they want to feel less guilty about when they made monkey noises at Cyril Regis in the 80s. `But it was part of the culture, wannit?`

The luton town fan in question regardless of race was being The biggest idiot in the ground. I saw him a number of times take off his shirt and beat his chest And make a cut your throat symbol. And some of the people on here want our fans thrown out to defend an idiot like that In my opinion it should be you thrown out. If that was the case, then where were the stewards given recent events?

Load of crap So calling somebody a Paki or Pakistani with abuse because they are from Pakistan isn't racist? Which in term is the same as Welsh, Taff for Wales. You are wrong. Using nationality with abuse is racist. Welsh sheepshagging barstewards you know what you are was by far the worse most influentially racist song sang last Saturday if not the only one of its kind directly. No town fans mentioned colour of skin, race or nationality in songs sang last week from what I heard. There was some cringeworth stuff passports, restuarants but thats about it.

Its like the Australians calling us 'poms'. Though unkind Sheep shagger does not make racism. You're wrong about this. Have a look at cps.gov.uk where I lifted the following from "Racialist chanting at football matches Section 3 Football Offences Act 1991 (as amended) This offence is committed when a group of people, or one person acting alone, chants something of a racialist nature at a designated football match. "Racialist" means the same as "racist". To prove this offence, the prosecution has to show that the chanting, which means the repeated uttering of words or sounds, was threatening, abusive or insulting to another person because of that person's colour, race, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin."

And that is basically where I'm coming from. There's a lot of confusion out there as to what the line is between banter and unacceptable.
Sheepsha*ggers Curry houses Passports
All seem to lie in that "?" zone for some, whereas the 'N-word' and others are universally known as being unacceptable and anyone chanting it knows exactly what will happen to them if they do.
Making it clear to everybody is the best way forward here. In the programmes, on the gate, on the website, anything really to make it clear. Then of course robust action if that fails.
Nothing wrong with banter between fans but the 'sheepsh*gger insults etc' should be really left in the past

The guy who was insisting on being the centre of attention was acting like an immense bell-end. I am pretty sure the type of abuse he got was simply because some of our morons don’t have the nous to come up with anything more inventive than what they did. You can be sure if he was ginger or fat then they would have focussed on that. No excuse for it but I suspect that was the driver behind it.
I’m kind of surprised he didn’t get homophobic comments too as he was rather over-insistent on whipping off his top and was being EVER so butch.
He was making cut-throat gestures. And joining in with loud chants of “SPASTICS” (which I don’t think has been mentioned in the thread so far, although I haven’t read it all). Charming fellow.
So I won’t lose too much sleep over his hurt feelings, and I say that as a self-hating bleeding heart liberal lefty and (fully paid up) member of the PC brigade. But if it upset other Luton fans (as it seems to have done, as a complaint has been raised) then I do feel sorry for that. Although I presume they will have also reported the spastic/sheep-sh*gger comments while they were at it?
And while on the subject of sheepsh*gger chants I was amongst the Aberdeen fans at Easter Road a few years ago. The Hibs fans were almost silent that day but they did come up with one insipid chant of "sheep-sh*ggers" which was met with derision from the Dons fans and chants back of "TRY IT - YER'LL LIKE IT"

Those who react too ''Sheep-shagger'' in an equally moronic way are possibly doing so as it dawns on them that they couldn't even get laid by one. Wouldn't you be upset?

The bottom line is if in doubt shut yer mouth.
It's shaping up to be a cracking season. One that no one will want to miss because they have been a) ill-informed b) misunderstood or c) blithely joined in with the massed ranks.

Let me tell you that if I was at work and called someone a fat paedo, I would be in a world of trouble. However if I called someone welsh or english it wouldn't so much as raise an eye brow. Besides, fatties and paedophiles arnt a race! It's a mysterious and strangely mixed up world my friend!

I find it all a bit embarrassing really. Not just the mild racism, the whole 'banter' thing. Once in a blue moon you do hear something new and a bit funny but mostly it's just the same nonsense over and over.
Hear a joke once it may be funny, twice, three times, at every home game??
How are they still amused by it all??

So in day to day life being called a fat pedo is more offensive than being called english/welsh but at a football match it is the opposite? Yep very mixed up!

Don't know if it was just because I was younger and (more) immature but seem to remember a lot more actual funny humour on the Riverside, not just with chants but with a lot of funny comments shouted out as well. Maybe because we were closer to the pitch and the players could actually hear us. I'm all for a bit of back and forth with the away fans but it needs to actually be funny/relevant. Unless maybe they bear a resemblance to someone like Jimmy Saville or Rolf Harris sit down you paedophile at someone is not funny or relevant and nor are half the other chants that get sung.

It is perfectly acceptable to call someone a fat peado if for exapmle they are an overweight child molester. If they were borne in Swansea it is fine to call them Welsh and if they were born in copthorne maternity ward you'r going to be ok calling them English. Itt is also ok to call someone an idiot it they ask idiotic questions

Well calling people from England Welsh is exactly the same as calling somebody from India a Paki. If you call somebody a Welsh sheepshagging barsteward then that is 100% stereotypical and racist. You are blind and very stupid for not seeing this and probably the sort of person that believes racism against white people doesn't exist or is exceptable.
