Went down yesterday. Could have done with a ton from Mo to allow the youngsters to have a bit more freedom regards their batting, without the pressure of having to just stay there. But alas he went into 'white ball mode' for a second, hence giving his wicket away.. Hopefully the Pears can win it from here though. Glamorgan are probably not strong enough to stay in Div1 if promoted, and it was a surprise to see Patel playing for them. I think Notts have loaned him for County Championship games only though !! Glamorgan will certainly be missing Marnus Labuschagne that's for sure. Indeed 127-7

Do some of these England cricketers actually know what test cricket is all about? Sam Curran finally gets his chance in this series and then bats like it's the last over of a T20 game. Pathetic đ

Strong rumour that Joe Clarke wants to leave Notts and will trigger a release clause when Notts are relegated.

I believe the Notts membership have not been exactly enamoured by his arrival and then performances recently. His performance has certainly tailed off after a promising start to the season. Just 384 runs in 19 innings....averaging just 21. I wonder if it will be that easy for him to find a new county?

Very good from Archer so far in this innings. The perennial problem of how to get Smith out remains, but interesting that he was troubled by Curran before lunch. England still well in this game.

Paine dropped at mid-on by Curran of Archer on 49! Jofra Archer really does have one of the most contrived, overly-coached techniques Iâve ever seen. Pretty damn effective bowling action if you ask me. Short run up, quick arm and pace in abundance. The find of the summer.

By the way, for the umpteenth time it happens to be Sam Curran. It wouldn't hurt to refer to him by his proper name. That's not too difficult is it?

I wish Joe Root would give up the captaincy, for the sake of his batting.
It's been a poor series for him with the bat.

It will be interesting to see how the new coach approaches the question of where Joe Root should bat and whether he should retain the captaincy. Personally I have few problems with his captaincy but the indications are that it is affecting his batting.
Good from England today, we're now leading by 215 with 8 wickets remaining. The way Smith has played this summer it's difficult to guess what could put the game beyond Australia. The pitch is still good for batting so ideally we could do a lead of at least 350, ideally 400.
Nice to see Denly getting runs, I hope he can go on and get a hundred (kiss of death).

Denly goes for 94, real shame that. Nelson strikes! England in a great position, leading by 291 with 6 wickets remaining. We really need to push home this advantage now.

Wickets starting to fall a bit too often now. We need another decent innings from Buttler here, Australia will fancy chasing anything under 400, that 400+ target figure is important psychologically.

A very good day for England, but hopefully we can eke out a few more runs in the morning before the final two wickets fall.
We are firmly in the box seat as Australia will have to chase a total to win that has only been successfully chased six times in the history of test cricket, but with Smith in such form this summer nothing can be taken for granted. They will also have plenty of time to chase the runs.
Hopefully there will be a good end to the series for England and a creditable 2-2 result come the end of this match.

With a bit of luck we can knock them all over successfully and draw the series. As always itâs the Smith factor thatâs the only worry as the rest of their batting is pretty poor. Strange series in a way that I donât think we deserved to win but i donât think we deserve to lose it either. The inability to get Smith out has obviously cost us the Ashes.

Smith has been the difference between the two teams. He should really now be reinstated as captain. He has served his time. Payne has been very poor with his batting and decision making. England also should be looking for a new captain but there is no stand out candidate.

Congratulations England.
That was a good win to end the series 2-2.
Sadly that's it for test cricket this summer, next stop New Zealand. First test match starts on the 20th November.

Overall a really good summer for England a fantastic first World Cup win and a creditable draw in The Ashes. Interesting times ahead with a new coach to be appointed, Giles wish to focus more on red ball cricket and the test team and talk of building a team for the next Ashes series. For me there needs to be more focus on identifying and sticking with players more suited to test match cricket, but for that to be a success we may need to accept getting worse before we eventually get better.
