I wasn't there today but from the commentary it seems that Arnold made a few key saves, like the one right at the death? he did but also dropped the ball but fortunately managed to save the follow up shot Yup - fantastic save but wouldn’t have needed to make it had he not messed up the first. Decent save right at the death

It’s impossible to dislike Arnold the person. He seems a nice chap and determined the make the best of himself.
What isn’t acceptable is a professional football club deciding it’s appropriate to play in excess of half a season with a goalkeeper who would attract attention only in the “cranberry sauce leagues” should we release him. Even an individual who has no professional involvement in football such as myself can see he isn’t fit for purpose.
So slow to go down for a save. So clumsy in his handling. So stilted in his movement and so timid to gather any ball into his area. His hilarious kicking is one of his better traits.
If we do stay up - much to martinshrewd’s chagrin - it will be despite Arnold rather than thanks to him.

What I also consider unacceptable is the argument - produced by the likes of the risible Scarecrow - that “Arnold’s the least of our problems bruv”.
How people cannot see the pandemonium caused in our area due to our defence being aware of Arnold’s limitations is baffling. For anyone to pass off issues in the most important position on the pitch as a case of us being spoilt thanks to Hart, Daniels, Leutwiler, Henderson etc is troubling. These individuals are clearly unhinged.

Can only assume Toney spanked one off the line with his hand out of despair at the utter inadequacy of Arnold and his Posh counterpart, who put in an Arnoldesque display - rooted to his line, poor kicking, capable of making the odd save but nothing more.
a mate who hadn't been to watch the Town this season who remarked that any Peterborough free-kick in our half felt like a penalty, such was Arnold's inadequacy. I've got no hatred towards the guy, but he really is rubbish.

They would gain us points throughout the season with outstanding performances. Arnold is not at the same level, he would make a great back up keeper. I'd discribed him as OK.

When you look at how season has panned out, MacGallivray was probably our biggest blow of players that left in summer. We knew Deano was going but I wasn't concerned as we had an obvious quality replacement. Seems the club thought that as well and we were left well short when he decided to go.

not seen any highlights yet but I have a feeling boros set piece game plan today was based around the fact a ball dropped between the penalty spot and 6 years line won't be defended properly by us
first one they scored off, 2 more they headed right into Arnolds hands, I'd like to see the last minute one again but I'm pretty sure he did a deano special, one for the cameras etc
but like I said, I've not seen it so fair play to him if it turns out to be a great save, its about time he could look back at a game and say he earned a point or 2 himself
he did make one good save but will only be remembered to dropping it in the first place, and his kicking would not have been out of place in the nations
on the positive side, his new haircut looked quite impressive

On the rare occasion we win a league game some posters still find time to belittle our number one choice goalkeeper.
Steve Arnold is not the best goalkeeper we've had in recent years but, for the rest of the season he's going to be between the sticks so we might as well accept it, like it or not.

I was sat in line with their goal today and saw him let in a soft header as someone who didnt attend the game brought the thread back up suggesting he was some sort of hero I thought I'd mention what I did see

Perhaps Steve Arnold will create some heroic moments in the games to come, well you never know 😉

We are a lower league club with players of a standard who are prone to the odd mistake but who in the main give 100% effort. Cant really ask for much more. Occasionally we will get the likes of Dean Henderson and Ben Godfrey for a short time which is a bonus but then its always going to be difficult for those following on when they've left. Nobody was going to match up to Henderson so poor old Steve Arnold was always going to find it difficult. Nice lad doing a good job behind a struggling defence.

Similar to the goals at Wycombe - he tends not to bother diving unless the ball is within arms reach.

Similar to the goals at Wycombe - he tends not to bother diving unless the ball is within arms reach. It's one of the stranger traits in his locker. I'm not necessarily saying he should save that (although I don't think it's beyond the realms of possiblity) but to not even attempt to is weird. Sure the former goalkeeper will be along shortly to extole the virtues of him based on a save he only had to make as a result of dropping the ball.

Another batch of ex keepers saving it from their armchairs, SR should have had the hindsight to sub Arnold before this happened, come on Sam you need to get this sorted, buy yourself a B&A crystal ball as they seem to be in abundance. Even winning away at a top side is still not enough for some.

seen the goals Peterborough goal on the face of it Arnold could have done more a half step and no attempt to dive at the ball from a header not at close range, so playing devils advocate was he blinded by the sun ? was he distracted by a run from a player and saw it late. a camera from behind the goal would give us a better idea.
but at the end of the day we won against a top ten team , we got three points

Whatever your opinion of Arnold - he must be safe as houses in the starting XI if there is a fight for who is back up keeper on the bench. Then again maybe its Arnold's turn to be rotated. A spectacular climbdown on your first position that on his day Arnold 'could match Henderson'.

I haven't seen Arnold throw away a three goal lead this season unlike Henderson has done recently.
Then again with the shambles in front of him - we should be so lucky to get a three goal lead.

If we are not going to sign one permanently of sufficient standard then at the very least we should expect to attract a young quality keeper on a season long loan in the mould of Button, Daniels, Henderson. If we want to sustain l1 football and improve as per last season it takes more than effort.

i'm probably obsessed buy hey, I was just curious to where he has been before etc it does explain a few things
Arnold starts with Norwich but never gets a game and is released he signs for Grays for 1 year but gets released after just 18 games he then signs for Eastleaigh but only plays 3 games Wycombe sign him during a January window but he never gets a game for them and they loan him out to the non league before releasing him he signs on a free for stevenage and plays 31 times in 2 season before they release him he signs for forest green and make 43 games in 2 seasons, but they release him 30 games at dover but they release him back into the football league with gillingham but gets no games and they release him joins barrow on an 18 month loan but plays just 17 times before....
and then, a league 1 club comes in and offers him a 2 year contract

I admire the sentiment but would like to think there is a middle ground between promising young players from premiership clubs to non league journeymen (which Arnold is). The fact we went from Henderson to Arnold is frankly a disgrace, regardless of how nice he is, how much he tries and how bad the defence is.
