I thought I would start a new cricketing thread given that England play their first warm up match of their Caribbean tour tomorrow against a CWI President's XI in Barbados. England play a second warm up match at the same venue on Thursday. The first test starts on the 23rd January. England play 3 test matches against the Windies followed by 5 ODIs and 3 T20s. What I would give to be out in Barbados at the moment, 28c, sun is shining....

I always look forward to watching when England tour the West Indies. The matches are on at a great time of day for English TV viewers, starting mid afternoon and finishing around 9pm.
It'll be interesting to see what the pitches are like out there. I saw an interview with the Windies T20 captain who said one of the venues (St. Lucia) is likely to be fast and bouncy. Ollie Stone should relish a bowl on that. The rest might be lower and slower though with spinners playing a more significant part.
It's just a shame that the locals don't turn up in numbers these days, totally understandable mind with all the politics and wrangling in Windies cricket, as the atmosphere over there used to be electric back in the day.

My sister and her husband fly out tomorrow and will be there for 5 weeks.
Great timing with 'Arctic air' about to engulf the UK. Plus 5 weeks without hearing the sodding 'B' word.
Not that I'm envious.

Olly Stone's involvement in the 1st test, and even the tour, is now in some doubt as he needs a scan for a back injury. That would be a real shame for the lad.

ECB tweet: Injury News: A scan has revealed that Olly Stone has sustained a bone stress injury to his lower back and he will return home from the Caribbean this week ahead of further tests in the UK.
A replacement will be named in due course. That's a real shame given that our pace attack lacks any real out and out pace.

An interesting choice given his recent fitness record. It's a shame Jofra Archer can't be called up just yet.

WICKET!
A shame for Campbell. He tries to sweep Moeen Ali but misses. The ball hits him on the pad and that's lbw. Out for 44, WI 53-1.

WICKET! Stokes strikes! Good length from him and he finds the edge through to Root at 1st slip. Brathwaite goes for 40, WI 126-2.
WICKET! Stokes gets another! Darren Bravo is squared up and hit on the pad in front. Gone for lbw for 2, WI 128-3.
TEA. An early tea is taken as rain stops play in Barbados with WI 132-3.
WICKET! Anderson gets an inside edge from Shai Hope and Foakes takes the catch. Hope is on his way for 57, WI 174-4.

WICKET! Anderson gets another. Chase is tempted by one that moves away and he edges it behind to Root at 1st slip for 54. WI 240-5. WICKET! The ball loops up in the air and there's a pause in the slips before Jos Buttler comes forwards to take the catch. Dowrich gone for 0 off the bowling of Anderson. WI 250-6. WICKET! A fourth wicket for Anderson. Nicely taken for a caught and bowled and that's the end of Holder, out for 5, WI 261-7.
WICKET! Stokes gets some bounce and Kemar Roach can't get his bat out of the way. He goes for 0, caught Root, bowled Stokes, WI 264-8.
Close WI 264-8

A very good effort from England today having lost the toss on a pitch that very much favoured the batting side. We contained them well in the main and, apart from one far from easy chance that Buttler put down, caught very well too.
The Windies strength is in their pace attack and they will test our top order. Particularly if the pitch, as seems to be expected, starts to show more uneven bounce as the match progresses.

I don't think that Broad should have been dropped though.

That was certainly controversial. I would have gone with Broad in place of Rashid, but it's easy sitting here to make such calls. It clearly was a decision they mulled long over before making it, maybe by the end of the game the inclusion of two spinners will prove to be the right choice, you can't really judge it after one day.

According to the Sky commentators they had been mulling over it for the last couple of days. I'm sure it was just a gut decision eventually though as it would have been a very difficult call to make either way.

WICKET! No question about that one. Anderson draws the edge and Jos Buttler takes the catch. Alzarri Joseph gone for 0, WI 289-9.
WICKET! Hetmyer tries to heave Ben Stokes away and edges it to the wicket-keeper. Foakes takes a fine catch and Hetmyer goes for 81, WI 289 all out.

Holder to Jennings, OUT, full, 130kph/80mph and Jennings slices the drive, the catch swallowed by gully! Reward for persistent probing from the Windies captain, kept pitching it up and Jennings the bait, a flirty squirt that flew to Hope at chest height. Holder breaks through
KK Jennings c Hope b Holder 17 (43m 34b 3x4 0x6)
