unlucky ? lol I tried that last season after some harshly drawn games where we battered the opponent and hit the woodwork etc, it didnt work lets put it this way, if the 4 sides we'd played this season had turned up with 3 less keepers than us. ( ie none ),so every one of our shots on target went in, we'd have drawn 1-1, lost 2-1, won 3-1 and lost 3-1. ( 4 points ) we'll thats providing they didn't actually respond to us scoring good pod by the way ps dont agree with Bennett being good either

A win finally! And it came in the most special way it could as Tom Bloxham created a wave of positiveity that town managed to ride to 3 points. And what a goal! Earlier in the week it was despair all the way as town were abject vs League 2 Rochdale and this game still provides a good yard stick to how many problems this team/squad have! Still we are off and running as we enter the last days of a transfer window where there is still so much to do but where doubts remain anything will! soundcloud.com/salopcast/202122ep6

Listened to it when it came online. One aspect I don't recall you commenting on is that there less than 4,500 Town fans at the Gillingham game.

I had noticed that, and have a few stats on attendances for the next pod.
Lowest amount of home fans since 2015/16 to a Saturday league match

Latest Pod Now Live! After last weeks win and trying to look forward we return to earth in this weeks podcast with a massive bump. We are joined by ex professional footballer Andy Davies as we take a look at the big picture, a shambolic transfer window, the continued on pitch problems, unbalanced squad, a manager looking to fight with the press and rubbing people up the wrong way, why Salop have continued to perform poorly since Paul Hurst left and thoughts to what we can (or cant) achieve before January. Apart from all that, everything is fine! soundcloud.com/salopcast/202122ep7

A really good podcast. It should be required listening for everybody concerned with the running of our club. I think Wycherley has given Cotterill free rein and is now living with the consequences, as we all are. All the talk about running a tight ship and having a sustainable club and there is now the very real prospect that we will lose thousands of pounds as our attendances plummet.

Turns out Cotterill is a wrong'un and no one in the game told Wycherley and he's let him run amock. Reminds me of the appointment of our (I think) first Chief Executive (Bill something?) at the tail end of the Gay Meadow era. He was "a mate" who we'd "known for long time" and "could work with". Until he wasn't and we couldn't.
If Cotterill doesn't stick around for any length of time then Wycherley and Caldwell will be appointing his successor. It's difficult to know what to wish for from the set of realistic and unpalatable options available.

wow you finally sound like me 😜
And all that s**t I took on the board a couple of weeks back for daring to suggest he was a bully , no one wants to play for him and his press conferences were out of order , and then came the window , more defeats and more Lewis cox and dunny attacks etc
good job we’ve only played the s**t teams so far 😜

Have to admit I haven’t listened for a while. Hanging around in no mans land last season in the league didn’t help, had no appetite to listen to games or the pod etc. I find it a much better listen when we’re either near the top or bottom of the league and have fans back in stadiums.
Really enjoyed it today. Opened my eyes a little hearing what SC was like with Leshabela and other rumours coming from the club from players or what not with his style of a management.
Also when you actually sit down and listen to genuine fans talking about us having more keepers than centre mids, not signing anyone, playing players out of position, it’s all things we already know but when it’s summarised the way you did it it suddenly becomes a lot more alarming how badly we did mess it up this summer. With tougher fixtures to come and only unfit free agents available to liven the squad up, you do wonder how we pull ourselves out of it.
I know it wasn’t the intention of the pod, but I definitely come out the other side of it with a little less conviction on whether we have the right man in charge, Crewe will be massive. I almost feel we’re at a point where SC is deliberately being stubborn by not signing players. It feels like he’s gone right, everyone keeps asking me about signings, you watch I’ll keep this team up with the squad we have and prove everyone wrong, I honestly don’t see any other reason for us to refuse to add to the squad.

Cheers for all the comments gusys.
Its tough at the moment when there are very little positives and not sure we have even hit rock bottom yet.
Since we started the podcast we have covered a few of these LOWS (the end of Micky Mellon, Askey start, the bad run under Ricketts and now)
On the flip side we had one good season under Hurst, a couple of good cup runs and a lot of very MEH football!
The pod always does better in a crisis, but in terms of numbers listening, the Hurst season is unmatched. As such a blood good run would be great for business but we keep getting suck in this repeating circle of negativity! Its only fair now that this far out from Hurst we ask "why" is it something more than "bad" managers.

(Taking into consideration we may have still lost players and how hurst performed post us) Askey was clearly on a loser trying to follow something hurst very likely wouldn’t have come close to repeating and then ricketts was already on a loser as many wanted hurst back And for once we are in a position where the manager was seen by most as the new messiah 3 pre season games , ( some hinted at a genius recipe for success ) There’s no rush for transfers lol it’s always best not to get your hopes up as a town fan 🤪

I would say if Hurst stayed the good times would have kept rolling though another season like 17/18 would have been really hard to replicate. But we would have been offered some real quality loan players after what people saw he did with Henderson and Godfrey for example.

This weeks Salopcast now live covering a fundamentally disappointing draw vs Crewe, Cosgrove concerns, relying on a 36 year old, our worst run in 15 years and roadkill. Also concerning discussion about what will happen at Sheffield! soundcloud.com/salopcast/202122ep8

funny how you are now bringing up Sams stats to make Cotterill look bad , who'd have thought it I had a flashback earlier in regards to Golbourne, as much as I loath him for what he did, there was some red flags even back then, the fact he did what he did was bad enough but wasn't it so bizarre that he left the pic up and seemed to have no remorse, I'm now thinking he had a grudge about something involving the club or someone at the club good episode. you shared my views of the game almost identically, i think im giving cosgrove a bit more credit than you, but you might be right, I'll watch him a bit closer next time

Finally a a fun and rewarding away day this season as a Salopian army descended into Sheffield and left smug as we found our way back to cars and buses though 1000s of grumpy Wednesday fans! A very slow start almost costs us, but will a missed penalty be the turning point for Steve Cotterill OR was an encouraging second half performance an anomaly? Either way, just great to spend an afternoon with town fans right behind the team and to get something out of it for once! soundcloud.com/salopcast/202122ep9

Very true... but does feel like this is the chance now in these two home games to get more than just three points. If we are going to get out of trouble then this is the moment you think as failing in these two would be pretty devastating for confidence.

good pod, I might have added that the counter attacker attack looked likely from inside the first 3 minutes, they did us twice, I also think the arsenal game played a big part, but agree we deserved to win and looked the most likely to score again, bit harsh on EBL for his follow up shot, he hit it hard and got it on target, you cant ask much more from a defender, I thought the keeper made a great recovery after not dealing with the first effort adequately, Leahy 1st, for me too but I'd like bowman in 2nd for effort alone, and udoh 3rd just for the goal very unlike him there was something missing with the pod though, cant think what it was get well soon glyn

Excellent contribution from James for the Bolton game.
Although he was quite positive about our prospects this was only based on the idea that teams with this level of xG cannot go on not scoring or winning. The rest of his contribution provided a huge number of reasons for why we will become a statistical anomaly and get relegated.
His comments about the relative merits of Udoh and Bowman were very interesting.
