Saying a player is a bit s**t isn't what I would file under "vile". It's two supporters talking about the club, the manager, players, games and performances. For the most part that's how supporters go about discussing things. I think that's a bit of an over reaction. Anyhow, another enjoyable listen. Good stuff... Stutty, thanks for the feedback. We like to think the podcast is reflective of discussions in the pub that fans have. Ok, but you're not in the pub are you. Your views are 'broadcast' to anyone who cares to listen. That could include players at our Club who are trying their best. I mean, I'm sure JLL really means to miss those chances. There's obviously no problem with analysing a players performance, but there's no need to use a derogatory term to describe them as an individual in a public space. Who happened to be a key and popular member of last season's squad and Club captain this season.

We have the players we have, each week they train and JA puts out the team he thinks best. They do their best, they want to do their best. There is an alternative; sit around and pick up the wages.
Some ribbing about missed shots and mistakes is ok, even their team mates probably give them a bit of stick, but we sometimes go too far? I am reminded of the gambling ads footnote slogan "Stop when the fun stops".
Just sometimes consider how you would feel to be on the receiving end of some of the comments.

It’s also been made the title of the piece which is a shame. Its a play on words... its not like we called it s**t Shop Stumbles again or something.... I think if you listen to the pod Ollies reaction is born out of frustration mines is a little more nuanced but in general, like a lot of folks we arent impressed with him. We did a vote and asked is the shop league one standard and the over riding response was no.... But at the end of the day, its reflective of how some people are thinking and not others... its impossible to reflect all views and even then we gave him some justification, positive comments (Ollie was very positive about him at the Doncaster game, while I was less so)... and plenty last year when the role he was fulfilling was what we needed. Its an intresting debate, but we have to be honest about how we feels as fans, to not do so would make the pod sound stilited like we are trying to avoid a difficult issues becuase we might p**s the club or players off... much like the fanzine, thats not the ethos... the ethos is to be honest and open about how we both feel while trying to reflect the wider base as much as is actively possible (though guests, polls, reading social media, B and A, being at games and talking to many many town fans as we do) Were trying, Im not saying we get everything right all the time, but debates like this infairnes give us chance to reflect... Considering we havent won yet... its been mega reserved... A leeds Podcast would be calling for the manger to go already!

Fair point, but its not like its two people saying this is an isolated circumstance. its a prevailing view that hes not good enough for a fair few people... I also dont buy into the "impact" or "influence" this has on a player. They get worse from the sidelines and a stong player blocks it out or uses it t do better. I still think its very reserved really about a striker that rarely scores and people were shocked to see offered a deal. I get that he has a role to play, the one he did for us last year was fantastic, he held it up helped us see out games and offered what we needed. he was part of the success, but I doubt there are many if any fans would say hes first choice material at this level. Did you listen to what was said... 99% of of it was reasoned view of the mistakes he made and what he offered. Ollie didn't call him sit out of being viscous, but just a half harted "hes a bit s**t isnt he" kind of comment...

Good stuff on the latest podcast. I'm glad you focused on Whalley's appalling set pieces which are becoming a real bugbear of mine. He has been one of our stand-out players so far this season and we all know he would run himself into the ground for the cause. But his wasteful delivery on corners and freekicks in a side which has struggled for goals is verging on the criminal.
Senior player or not, Askey needs to take him to one side and at the very least tell him we are going to opt for a little bit more variety in the future, perhaps allowing Norburn or Docherty to have a go now and again. Most other sides have two or three players standing over freekicks to leave the opposition guessing but ours are all too predictable either hitting the first man or flying out of play.
Do you have any Opta stats on the percentage of Whalley's set pieces this season which have found their target - either a Salop player or have forced the opposition keeper to make a save? I bet they would make horrendous reading!

Latest episoid of the Salopcast now live covering the Checkatrade 6-0 win (kinda) and the farce and fleetwood where Askeys tactical mind**** cost STFC the game. Slipping back down the table and wit the fans seeming to turn on the manger more we also have a section looking at where Askey stands now and will either of the hosts move into the "Askey Out" camp? Fair to say, there are problems. We also preview the potential disaster that is Suunderland coming to town! Thanks for listening soundcloud.com/salopcast/201819ep12 Enjoy Glyn and Ollie (Salopcast) Read more: blueandamber.proboards.com/thread/94083/salopcast-ep12-fleetwood-face-askey?page=5&scrollTo=1384605#ixzz5TzB6SisL

I'm not a football manager, but (maybe most posts should be prefixed with that), anyway, I'm not a football manager but I would have this out in the open, the whole team watch a couple of DVD's of recent games and be prepared to say exactly what went wrong with the whole performance, no holds barred, including being able to ask me about my decisions. Set pieces? What do you think Shaun? I would prefix the viewing with "we have some good players, we should be doing better, how are we going to do better, that's all this viewing is about and nothing will go out of this room except ways to improve and play to your ability"

I’m sorry but as far as Askey is concerned this is not a training session. He is out of his depth in terms of experience at L1 level, his coaching ability and man management. Those factors rolled into one tell you he has to go. He will not only lose the dressing room.....could have happened already because that is the first sign.......and the fan base. The board have to deal with this quickly or we will see us at the bottom of L1 and loosing players. To hell with the money, pay him off and pay to get the right man in the job....period.

Latest salopcast went live last week
A tetchy week. First the sun "revelations", an angry "Fake News" brian, the club telling the press what they were allowed to ask JA.... and that was all before Salop snoozed their way though a god awful game on rememberance sunday. Kidsn words for the club for the pre match memorial.... but then onto the game..... Both teams were pretty poor, but Salop should have been better. Could we have gone for it, was askey afraid of that? 1-1 and a chorus of boos, chants and nasty stuff directed at JA. fair or not, everyone has a different view it seems. One this is for sure, there was a more significant turn of the match day crowd for the first time.
Post match Askey had an interesting press conference for once, that opened up questions about the media and clubs relationship....
Where we go next... who knows... well we do its Crewe and then Back home for Rochdale and we cover those games to.

Salopcast Don't mean to be Captain Pedantic but just one thing (because I know people get irate about the whole Shrewsbury/Shrowsbury thing!), having lived up there for several years, it's pronounced sul-ford, not sall-ford or sal-ford.

Latest Salopcast now live covering the progression the FA Cup on a cold night in Salford (not Manchester!) and then the 3-2 loss in a game that on paper looks like it was way better than it was. A small rock to the boat, but nothing to major. We continue to search for a manager as new names throw the hat in the rings every few days. Doig, JFH, Flynn, Ricketts and other get a good looking at...
