Didn't we get £750k for Dave Walton from Crewe?.
Anyway good luck Conner Goldson.

I believe that this is a massive loss to us. In most games I saw him play he was consistent and did the job really well and I think we're going to struggle to replace him unless MM has had his eye on an experienced CB proven at this level. I don't think it's an option for us to try and plug the gap with loanees until the next window and even then I wonder if the club will reinvest the Goldson cash.
League 1 is a tough place, but we should have learned our lesson so hopefully RW and MM have had a plan all along in anticipation of either Goldson or Woods (or both)leaving? Bonkers if they haven't.
Good luck to Conor Goldson, I hope his career takes a massive leap forward and he grabs the opportunity with both hands. In Mickey Mellon we have faith, awesome so far. Lets hope Roland is up for it!

Don't quite understand why he had to rush off on Tuesday evening, reporting a slight strain to have a medical the next day in Brighton? Couldn't he have said to Brighton, I'm playing tonight I'll drive down in the morning? What was the sudden urgency?

What was the sudden urgency? risk of Injury, smokescreen from clubs to fend off gazzumping, little disappointing he did not have a farewell he deserved but fully understanding of the whys and wherefores.

Time to think through what was going on? Would he have been totally focused if he had played?

Yep, and not sure it would be a good decision by MM to have a player on the pitch whose mind was elsewhere, even though Goldson would of been as professional as always. A bad game, with Conor on his way the very next morning and the questions would of been asked as to why MM made the decision to play him. And that 'doubt' in the manager's decisions would of stayed until the next game and maybe beyond. Right decision by MM even if we did lose.

We're hoping to sell Ryan Woods, should we rest him just in case? The club could have made public the offer and waited for better offers... I think the reality is he was spoken to by Brighton and he wanted to go there so QPR or another club could offer what they like but he had to want to accept terms so remained in control of any deal.... Bright lad do wish him well

good luck Connor, you've been a true and loyal servant to the club, rare in football. You're someone we can be proud of and follow in the future, I hope BHA give you time to settle in and see your true potential.

We're hoping to sell Ryan Woods, should we rest him just in case? Why would they do that while he is still in the shop window, just perhaps, and might be a touch clutching at straws here, but the clubs may have agreed deals by kick off time on Tuesday, and as a condition that he did not play on Tuesday night, but instead head down to BHA and discuss personal terms and have a medical.....

This would be the most reasonable explanation. The only fly in the ointment is the club making a big deal about Goldson ruling himself out of the match and not the other way around. Didn't seem to me that the club was in full control of the unfolding events.

Or it could be that the club knew they would have to say something - they were bound to be asked after all. They gave an explanation that didn't quite come out the way it was meant to and there was actually no problem at all.

MW was probably muttering - 'get JLAA off the mic'

Exactly, hopefully on one of the international breaks we have a home game and he can be invited back to come on the pitch and say goodbye. Even do the half time draw.

On the surface BHA appear to be a well run club with a real shot at the prem league.
Glad Connor has chosen them rather than end up at somewhere like QPR who lurch from one self made crisis to another.
Thanks Connor, you made a huge contribution to last seasons to promotion and stuck with us after the previous seasons disaster - that won't be forgotten.
Go and make us even prouder son!
Dom Smith - your time has come..

Not quite sure what the present position is with regard to Dom Smith.
MM has stated that he is not yet ready for League 1 football and there has been talk of him going out on loan.
Yet he's recently been on the bench and is at present our only cover at CB. And this would still be the case if NKP returns and we revert to a 3-5-2 formation.
The only other alternative would be to switch Ogogo to CB.

The only other alternative would be to switch Ogogo to CB. I get the impression Smith has impressed MM and maybe moved up the pecking order. MM talked about him "coming back a man" from his loan spell (what did they do to him?!) and perhaps it was telling that he was made captain of a reserve team featuring far more experienced players on Wednesday. It was only a friendly, but it was the day after CG left and might have been a challenge to say show us you can step up. He won't be first choice yet but MM now sees him as credible option. The phobia of the loan market created by GT also means some are forgetting it is a useful option. If DS isn't ready I'd rather a solid loan than a journeyman centre back blocking his route to the team for 2 yes.

Reading between the lines a little, but in his interview MM sounded really miffed about that fact that Connor had made himself unavailable for Tuesday and also about the way Connor handled his departure. One comment that stood out was the one saying "I thought we had a better relationship than that".

One comment that stood out was the one saying "I thought we had a better relationship than that". And if that's the case, perhaps that somehow communicated itself to the team, who proceeded to give a very poor and flat performance against Chesterfield.

Tim Nash really gets into the meat and bones of the machinations of the move in the Oldham pre-match interview. MM very disappointed that Connor didn't seem to 'trust' the management's promise that they would look favourably on a move to a bigger club. The manager noticeably downbeat on Thursday. He certainly didn't deny that the CG's conduct had an impact on Tuesday night.

Matt Williams on BBC Shropshire said fantastic deal for Goldson inc Appearance Fees , Promotion Fees , Sell on Fees but no actual figure Pretty scathing about Mickey D and Vernon turning down recent moves. In contrast applauds young James Caton who was hungry enough to move to Mansfield despite his new deal being less than what he was earning at the GM.

I think it's also pretty clear from the Williams' interview that Brighton went behind the club's back to do the deal. He said that Connor phoned in with his hamstring injury and yet Shrewsbury hadn't told him at that point of Brighton's interest.

One way to look at is that we are just paying Connor back for his loyalty. What lower league player gets a 4 year contract? After his loyalty and performances it would be pretty cruel to get in the way. However, I'd argue that if they want you, they will pay for you. This... Sounds like a mover Connor really wanted and didn't want anyone to risk it.. Fair enough! Connors happy... clubs Happy...I'm still gutted!

Didn't MW say a few times today on the radio that they are getting Goldson back so he can say farewell? In the international break I think I heard.
