If he has been sold, I hope the club will offer refunds to those who have purchased season tickets because I shall be at the front of the queue...... Yep, cos i only bought mine to watch grant holt, nothing to do with shrewsbury town fc, i just want to watch grant holt. holty is superman No big deal imo. good striker but we have had better for less.

People bought their season tickets believing that as he is on a 3 year contract Grant Holt would be at the club, thus giving us a realistic chance of promotion. If you paid for a Rolls Royce and were delivered a Ford Escort you would quite rightly expect a refund. We have paid for a commodity that has now diminished in quality and we should be offered our money back. As a season ticket holder I would like to state that I did not buy my season on the basis of Holt being on a 3 year contract. Can't speak for the other 2,700 whatever odd mind.

I bought it on the basis that it was good value at £12.50 a game, or 7.5 free games, or a third of home games free, whichever way you wish to look at it. Holt hasn't gone yet. There are a dozen things that can go wrong with the alleged transfer. Lets just wait and see.

Holt is a great striker but he is no John McGinley, come on lads get real.
If the Chairman allows Simmo to use ALL the money and that is the real issue we will be a stronger overall team, it will allow us to buy a striker and finally replace Davies because whatever the merits of the new players none of them will score as many goals as Ben.
If he does not, then he deserves the wrath of B & A because then we will know the extent of his ambition.
The worry for me is that Grant goes, we sign a couple of players.........but end up a weaker team than the one Peters took to Wembley and we have gone backwards about 4 years.

I cant fathom why it would be a disgrace to sell a player for a decent sum.
Regardless of the 525k or so on offer.
So what do the Club do - keep him for another year ? Will his value go up even further ? Will we go up with this one "superstar" and 10 mortals in May...?
Or take a chance on keeping him for a further 2 years and have him walk like Davies because we can not match his demands.
Or should we sell him now for good money, invest that in 3 good players to give us the greater depth, character and strength of squad.
Holt was good, he is certainly not irreplaceable.
If we get the money and it is invested wisely then we can only gain as a Club.

In a nutshell as and when Holt goes for big money you understand it has to be an offer the club cant refuse!
But this should be used as a springboard to sign players like Benson and Bishop as well as a winger like Colbeck that will improve the side....bear in mind its not just transfer fees we have to consider the cost of salaries and £450K does not go far.........
Proof of the pudding is in the eating if we lose Holt and replace him with players who ultimately lead to mid table mediocrity there will be a judgement day! On the plus side if the new players knit into a hard working team who gain promotion the chairman/board and manager will be the best thing since sliced bread.........that is life not many of us go to our daily work to be judged by thousands of people and under public scrutiny its a hard life running a football club!

My guess is that you will be first in the que to buy your season ticket back when the Holt tranfer money has been spent and people are getting exited again... Every player has his price and that price has obviously been met. Simmo has said we dont 'need' to sell for finacial reasons but at the end of the day when a big offer comes in for a player you have to ask weather we will be better off as a club with the money, or with Grant Holt, It seems in this case the money is more valuble. If Holty goes which by all acouts he will, we need to look forward and move on. He can be replaced, mybe not by a similar player but maybe this gives us chance to reshape the team. The way some people have reacted is as if the club in about to go into liquidation.. We should count ourselves lucky, we could be Chester fans! Superb post.

Over rated, over paid, over weight and over the hill - is he really as good as we think he is? Take away the penalties and a freak 5 goals then consider his performance in the last third of the season - was he really that good?..................... Well I've convinced myself and feel alot better now Dont worry Roland knows what he's doing look how he's steered us during his reign as Chairman - our finances are looking great pity we've got to start yet another season in the 4th tier Promotion or stand down i say

First, Holt is our main goal scorer. Selling him on the back of losing Davies and Humphrey means we have a severely weakened team compared with last season. And last season we were not good enough to go up (without others having points deducted we wouldn't have even made the playoffs). I was hoping the summer would see us strengthening the squad. To me it already looks like it has been made weaker; losing Holt will make it weaker still.
Secondly, people have said that if we get good money for Holt we can spend it on other good players. When? The season is very close to starting. We have already had the bonding training session in Spain. The pre-season matches are happening that allow the team to get used to playing with each other. We are running out of time for bringing in new players and getting them bedded in before the Burton match.

Holt is vital to a realistic promotion challenge, IF he goes it won't only be the fans who are let down it will be the new players who have come into the club thinking he would be leading the charge.....

If we can reinvest then great however the season is drawing ever closer and is two weeks and two friendlies enough for new players to bed in?
With us already being perceived as a club with money, this will add to it so will we experience inflated transfer fees?
What is for sure is that we are going to finish in the bottom half of the table if we do not make any new signings before the start of the season.
In Simmo we trust.

And also by now all Clubs will have virtually assembled their squads and will be reluctant to sell anybody unless it is for stupid money, so inevitably it will be an out of contract player who either isn't good enough or demanding too high a wage packet.
